Bodegas Antidoto Ribera del Duero 2021, 0.75L
Tempranillo from Ribera del Duero, Castilla y León

"The eponymous red 2021 Antídoto comes from a myriad of plots ranging between 30 and 100 years of age in the Soria part of Ribera del Duero at some 950 meters in altitude on stone, limestone sand and clay soils. It fermented with indigenous yeasts and matured for nine months in 600-liter French oak barrels, only 5% of them new. It's creamy, velvety and juicy, with 14.57% alcohol and good freshness and acidity. With time in the glass, it develops more complexity and is herbal, meaty and floral, with very fine, chalky tannins. It feels young and lively but approachable. Great value too." 92 Luis Guiterrez, Wine Advocate

Descendientes de Jose Palacios Bierzo Petalos 2021, 0.75L
Mencía from Bierzo, Castilla y León

"2021 is clearly the finest vintage of the trio of 2020, 2021 and 2022, and the bottled 2021 Pétalos delivers what the unbottled samples promised: a wine with lower alcohol than ever (13.5%), lighter, a little narrower but with the juiciness of Mencía that seems to come back after some time in bottle. It has lots of notes of aromatic herbs, with some similar aromas to the La Faraona. It's quite expressive and showy, very pleasant and easy to drink, very gourmand, with a velvety mouthfeel and very fine tannins. 320,000 bottles and 2,567 magnums produced. It was bottled between November 2022 and March 2023. Approachable now, very hedonistic." 93+ Luis Gutierrez, Wine Advocate, Aug 2023

Alvaro Palacios Finca Dofi Gratallops 2021, 0.75L
Grenache / Cariñena from Priorat, Catalunya

"The more backward of the 2021s was the 2021 Finca Dofí, which was very primary and smelled almost like the fermentation vessels, and it took time in the glass to open up. The blend is higher in Garnacha and they couldn't use the Picapoll, as it didn't work well that cool year, so it's 90% Garnacha, 9% Cariñena and 1% white grapes. It achieved 14.5% alcohol but kept better freshness than in 2020, a constant in the 2021 wines. Very promising..." 96-98 Luis Guiterrez, Wine Advocate

Alvaro Palacios Les Terrasses 2021, 0.75L
Blend from Priorat, Catalunya

"The sample of the 2021 Les Terrasses Velles Vinyes was truly impressive, a blend of 70% Garnacha and 30% Cariñena. It's a lively and vibrant Priorat with lower alcohol and higher acidity and more freshness, pointing at a great vintage in the making. This could very well be the finest vintage of Terrasses, a wine that Álvaro Palacios defined as a year of concentration and class. The wine is clean and pure, with great precision. It matured in barrel and cask for the past seven months, and the wine will continue its élevage for one more year. They expect to fill some 110,000 bottles and 2,000 magnums around May 2023." 94-96, Luis Gutierrez, Wine Advocate, Sep 2022

“Defined by creamy tannins, this harmonious medium- to full-bodied red offers an expressive range of roasted plum, black raspberry and fig cake notes. Lively on the palate, with aromatic accents of mountain herbs, licorice, white pepper and vanilla lingering on the chewy finish. Garnacha and Samsó. Drink now through 2036. 9,000 cases made.” 93, Alison Napjus, Wine Spectator, Feb 2024

Bodegas Albamar Pepe Luis Albarino 2021, 0.75L
Albariño from Rías Baixas, Galicia

“There were more iodine and low-tide notes in the nose of the 2021 Pepe Luis, with herbal and moss aromas, while the smoky notes were more in the background. The vintage is more marked in this wine; this is sharper and more austere than the rounder 2020 that I tasted next to it, despite both being balanced, fresh and harmonious. 6,100 bottles were produced. It was bottled after spending 17 months in two 2,500-liter oak foudres.”

Quinta de Muradella Alanda Blanco 2021, 0.75L
Doña Blanca / Treixadura / Godello from Monterrei, Galicia

"The 2021 Alanda Blanco is a village wine from Monterrei, a blend of Dona Blanca, Treixadura and Verdello that reflects the diversity of soils, altitudes and expositions. The varieties fermented together, being added to the vat progressively, and 1,500-liters matured in a used French oak foudre for 15 months and the rest was kept in stainless steel. It's pale, young and austere, more about soil and rocks than fruit, with notions of wet granite and dry flowers. It has contained ripeness, 13% alcohol, very good acidity, freshness and balance, with a sense of purity and transparency that is common to all whites here. It has depth, energy and light and extra vibrancy this year. It could very well be the finest white Alanda to date. 10,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in June 2023." 95, Luis Gutierrez, Wine Advocate, Nov 2023

“The 2021 Blanco Alanda, a blend of Treixadura, Doña Blanca, and Blanco Lexítimo, hails from the small DO Monterrei in Galicia. Partially aged in a French oak foudre, this yellow-hued wine has an enticing nose that unfolds notes of herbs and pear, with a subtle oak layer. Creamy and refreshing, it flows with a velvety texture stirred up by calibrated acidity.” 91, Joaquin Hidalgo, Vinous, Dec 2023

Telmo Rodriguez 'Gaba do Xil' O Barreiro 2021 2021, 0.75L
Godello from Valdeorras, Galicia

"The entry-level white from Valdeorras is now called the 2021 Gaba do Xil O Barreiro, which they harvested intermittently because of the rain from early September. The wine has only 12.5% alcohol and retained a low pH of 3.4. This was bottled unoaked after four months with lees in stainless steel. They have reduced the volume here, making a selection from their own vineyards in Larouco on red soils with a little more clay, so it's almost a different wine. This feels a bit reductive, a lot more than the other two whites; it's younger, a bit too young, but the palate is fresh and precise, with salty granite minerality and a dry finish with a bitter twist. 77,334 bottles produced. It was bottled in May 2022." 92, Luis Guiterrez, Wine Advocate

Diego Magana Anza Rioja 2021, 0.75L
Tempranillo / Grenache / Carignan / Graciano / Macabeo from Rioja, La Rioja

"The 2021 Anza wants to show the typicity of Laguardia and Elvillar with freshness, precision and no makeup. It's a blend of grapes—Tempranillo, Garnacha, Graciano, Malvasía, Calagraño, Viura and Moscatel—from different vineyards that were fermented by plot with some full clusters and a significant amount of white grapes. It matured in 500-liter barrels and oak vats of different sizes. It has 13.5% alcohol and a little more depth and clout compared with the 2022, and it's fine-boned and has very elegant tannins. Precision, my friends. 21,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in December 2022." 94, Luis Gutierrez, Wine Advocate, Feb 2024
