Eduardo Torres Acosta IGT Rosso Arenaria 2019, 0.75L
Nerello Mascalese from Terre Siciliane, Sicily

"90% Nerello Mascalese/10% other local varieties. 2019 was the first vintage of Arenaria. Eduardo acquired this half-hectare parcel in the territory of Castiglione, just outside of the Etna zone. It lies on Mt. Portella at 700 meters with a north-facing orientation. Notably, the soils here are not volcanic but sedimentary, based on sub-marine sandstone with clay and quartz. In traditional style, the vineyard is a mixed planting of various local white and red varieties. Nerello Mascalese is the main red, with Nerello Cappuccio, Alicante and Garnacha; the whites include Minnella, Catarratto, Grecanico and Inzolia. The bunches were mainly destemmed (small percentage left whole) and were fermented spontaneously with indigenous yeasts in open tubs without temperature control or sulfur. The maceration lasted about 15 days. The wine was aged for 11 months in tonneaux and concrete tanks and then bottled without fining or filtering and with a minimal dose of sulfur." Importer Notes

Fongoli Montefalco Sagrantino Fracanton 2013, 0.75L
Sagrantino from Montefalco, Umbria

"Made with organically grown grapes and fermented in amphorae, this brawny red has a shy nose that eventually reveals stewed plum, moist earth and game. Densely concentrated, the ripe palate doles out blackberry jam, prune and baking spice alongside solid, enveloping tannins that leave a firm, drying finish. You'll also notice the heat of evident alcohol on the close."

Arietta H Block Hudson Vineyards Red Blend 2018, 0.75L
Cabernet Franc / Merlot from Napa Valley, California

"The 2018 Red Blend H Block is a blend of 56% Cabernet Franc and 44% Merlot, co-fermented. Like all of the wines from Hudson, the H Block possesses striking aromatic complexity to match its mid-weight personality. Dried cherry, herbs, iron, tobacco and smoke are some of the many aromas and flavors that grace this wonderfully expressive red wine. Bright acids and clean, minerally notes frame this exquisite red from Arietta. (Drink between 2023-2028) " 95 Points, Antonio Galloni, Vinous

Arietta Cabernet Sauvignon 2019, 0.75L
Cabernet Sauvignon from Napa Valley, California

"The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon is brilliant. Deep purple-hued, with incredible cassis and blueberry fruit as well as tobacco, graphite, damp earth, leather, and violets, it hits the palate with full-bodied richness, a round, layered, seamless texture, ultra-fine tannins, and a great, great finish. This tour de force is going to evolve gracefully for 30 years or more. It's one of the finest wines I've tasted from this estate."98 Points, Jeb Dunnuck

"Arietta's 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon is outstanding. It will require a number of years to be at its most expressive and for the bouquet to fully open, but all of that potential is there. Deep, layered and so well balanced, the 2019 is impressive right out of the gate. There is so much to look forward to. Inky dark fruit and a whole range of cooler-climate mineral/savory notes typical of Coombsville punctuate the huge, redolent finish." 96 Points, Antonio Galloni

Larmandier-Bernier 'Longitude' Blanc de Blancs Premier Cru Extra Brut NV, 0.75L
Chardonnay from Champagne, Champagne

Lovely classy green-gold colour shouts Chardonnay. Minerals, chalk, a hint of spices, and fine, fine tension in the mouth. Moreish and complete, a fine long wine. SF: Lively and energetic. The palate is spicy and firm with a soft white pepper backdrop. An accessible and ripe style, fresh and poised at the same time. TH: Slightly closed nose with grapefruit. Pretty high-pitched lemon pith notes coming through. It's a little uncompromising and hard for general champagne drinkers maybe, but this is a winner for those who like it honed, dry and persistent.

Larkmead Cabernet Sauvignon Solari 2018, 0.75L
Cabernet Sauvignon from Napa Valley, California

"Beautiful aromas of currants, blackberries and flowers follow through to a full body with ultra fine tannins that are polished and so long and persistent. Linear and very, very fine, yet structured. Try after 2025, but already very impressive to taste."97 Points, James Suckling

"Made from 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, the 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Solari (Black Label) was aged in French oak, 92% new. It sports a deep garnet-purple color and fragrant notions of boysenberries, black and red cherry preserves and black currant pastilles with hints of garrigue, sautéed herbs and tobacco leaf plus a waft of charcoal. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is elegant and refreshing, features a racy backbone and has finely grained tannins that support the intense red and black fruits, finishing with refreshing herbal lift. 1,238 cases were made." 94+ Points, Lisa Perrotti-Brown, Wine Advocate

Cobb Pinot Noir Rice-Spivak Vineyard 2019, 0.75L
Pinot Noir from Sonoma Coast, California

"The 2019 Pinot Noir Rice Spivak Vineyard was made with about 40% whole clusters and matured for 22 months in 40% new French oak. It has a medium ruby color and pure aromas of cranberries, raspberries and rhubarb—those dark red fruit characteristics of Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir in the 2019 vintage—plus accents of orange peel, Angostura bitters, moss and forest floor. The medium-bodied palate manages a slender frame and very intense flavors, supported by an abundance of silty tannins and juicy acidity driving the very long, very layered finish." 97 Points, Erin Brooks, Wine Advocate

Cuevas de Arom Tuca Negra Campo de Borja 2016, 0.75L
Grenache from Campo de Borja, Aragon

“The new top-of-the-range 2016 Tuca Negra Garnacha has a round palate with fleshy tannins and feels nicely balanced, even if the alcohol is on the higher side. Those white soils seem to impart a special elegance and freshness in the wines. The oak is nicely integrated and seems to have the balance and components for positive developments in the bottle. It has a saline twist in the finish that makes it very tasty. Only 953 bottles were filled in July 2018.” 94 Points, Luis Guiterrez, Wine Advocate

Bodega Mustiguillo El Terrerazo Finca Terrerazo 2019, 0.75L
Bobal from El Terrerazo, Spain

"There is a step up in precision here, quite noticeable when tasting it next to the 2018. It’s subtle, elegant and insinuating. It was a very good vintage for this wine. In 2018, the vineyards suffered from hail, and the wine shows more clarity here, it’s more transparent and pure, it has symmetry and very fine tannins. This has to be the finest Finca Terrerazo so far.” 94 Points, Luis Guiterrez, Wine Advocate

Domaine Lionnet Cornas Terre Brûlée 2019, 0.75L
Syrah from Cornas, Rhône

"The 2019 Cornas Terre Brûlée showed brilliantly, with an exotic style in its darker fruits as well as notes of camphor, balsam wood, plums, and ground pepper. It has tons of minerality on the palate and is full-bodied, concentrated, and powerful, with enough tannins to warrant a solid 5-7 years of bottle age. It’s a beautiful, classic, impeccably made Cornas that will have two decades of longevity. (Drink between 2027-2049)" 96 Points, Jeb Dunnuck, JebDunnuck.com

"Suave, mineral-accented blackberry, cassis, cherry compote and exotic spice qualities on the intensely perfumed nose, along with a slowly emerging floral nuance. Sappy and penetrating on the palate, displaying powerful lift to the concentrated black and blue fruit, floral pastille and spicecake flavors. Finishes extremely long and spicy, with pronounced mineral thrust, a hint of smoky bacon and gently chewy, well-knit tannins." 94-96 Points, Josh Raynolds, Vinous

Jean-Philippe Fichet Meursault Le Tesson 2020, 0.75L

"Here too there is a spicy character to the more floral if less citrusy aromas of essence of pear, apple and passion fruit. The equally elegant and pure medium-bodied flavors that possess more concentration and power on the gorgeously textured and impressively lengthy finale. This wonderfully stylish effort often rivals the Referts in quality and it appears that it will do the same in 2020. Excellent." 91-93 Points, Allen Meadows, Burghound

Fichet Meursault Chevalieres 2020, 0.75L
Chardonnay from Meursault, Burgundy

"The 2020 Meursault Les Chevalières has a reserved but focused nose, requiring some coaxing but delivering satisfying citrus peel and light lemon thyme aromas. The palate is well balanced with fine acidity, taut and fresh with impressive weight and persistence on the finish, hints of lemon sherbet on the aftertaste. Excellent. (Drink between 2023-2035)"91-93 Points, Neal Martin, Vinous

"Cool and airy aromas of mineral reduction, citrus and a floral whiff are trimmed in admirably discreet wood influence. There is both good richness and intense to the ultra-pure, even crystalline, flavors that conclude in a chiseled, long and balanced finale. This is a classic Chevalières with its almost aggressive minerality and refined mouthfeel. In a word, lovely." 90-92 Points, Allen Meadows, Burghound

00 Wines Chardonnay VGW 2019, 0.75L
Chardonnay from Willamette Valley, Oregon

"The 2019 Chardonnay VGW is fresh with white flowers, orange peel, and light flint. It has more tension on the palate, with fresh lime, delicate vanillin spice, and lasting floral notes on the back end. True to the vintage, it is a bit more subtle in its personality. although I think this will be an incredible wine as it matures over the next 10 or more years. Henri & Gilles Buisson St.-Romain Blanc La Perriere 2020, 0.75L
Chardonnay from Nuits St. Georges, Burgundy

"These 40-year-old vines, facing east, blossom freshly between 303 and 340 meters above sea level, on a hill opposite the Saint-Romain valley. The strong presence of limestone stones, as its name indicates, is the great characteristic of this climate. Minerality composes the matrix of this invigorating white wine which, when we close our eyes, reminds us of the fragrances of a torrent or of undergrowth after the rain. Its freshness, its elegance, its aromas of white flowers and wet stone seduce from its earliest youth. Let five to seven years pass and this Saint-Romain will offer you delicious aromas of grilled almonds and gunflint." Winery Notes

Domaine du Meix-Foulot Mercurey Rouge 1er Cru Les Veleys 2017, 0.75L
Pinot Noir from Mercurey, Burgundy

"A slightly fresher nose reveals notes of distinctly earthy and sauvage-inflected dark berry fruit aromas. There is both good vibrancy and density to the caressing medium weight flavors that exhibits reasonable persistence on the rustic and mildly short and edgy finish. Note that my rating offers the benefit of the doubt that the edginess will eventually dissipate as the tannins resolve."

Podere le Boncie Rosso di Toscana Chiesamonti 2019, 0.75L
Sangiovese / Canaiolo from Toscana, Toscana

Giovanna Morganti is quickly becoming recognized as one of the best of the new generation of Tuscan winemakers. Her small estate is a mere three hectares and her only wine is called “Le Trame” (the intrigues) signifying the wheeling and dealing required to purchase the land. Giovanna’s father was a legendary oenologist who believed in Tuscan varietals long before the “flying consultants” identified this area as a profit center. Podere Le Boncie is situated in the hamlet of San Felice which itself is located a handful of minutes north of Castelnuovo Berardenga, in the southern tier of the Chianti Classico zone.

Joh. Jos. Prum Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Auslese 2003, 0.75L
Riesling from Wehlen, Mosel

"I had some very fine examples of the 2003 German vintage on this trip (in the spring of 2013) and the ’03 Prüm Wehlener Sonnenuhr Auslese was one of the best. The deep, ripe and complex nose offers up a very stylish bouquet of pineapple, pear, orange zest, honeycomb, slate and a nice touch of Chartreuse-like botanicals in the upper register. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bdoied, complex and just starting to blossom with secondary elements, with a fien core, lovely focus and balance and a long, quite crisp (particularly for a 2003er) finish. A lovely, lovely wine that is drinking very well already, but has decades of life still ahead of it! (Drink between 2013-2035)" 94 Points, John Gilman, View from the Cellar

Louis Jadot(Domaine des Heritiers Louis Jadot) Beaune 1er cru Bressandes 2002, 0.75L
from Beaune, Burgundy

As it usually is, this is less powerful than the Couchereaux but trades power for more elegance, precision and purity of expression. Spottswoode Cabernet Sauvignon Lyndenhurst 2019, 0.75L
Cabernet Sauvignon from St. Helena, California

"This shows lots of chocolate and vanilla on the nose, together with ripe dark fruit and some wet earth. Floral undertones, too. Full-bodied and balanced with a meaty structure and ripe tannin. Yet, it’s easy to drink with a medium, fruity finish. Tight, dry and firm at the end. Modern and poised. Try from 2023." 94 Points, James Suckling

"The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Lyndenhurst is composed of 77.7% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9.4% Cabernet Franc, 4.1% Petit Verdot, 5% Merlot and 3.8% Malbec. Deep garnet-purple in color, it skips out of the glass with lively blueberries, redcurrants and kirsch scents, plus hints of cedar chest, fragrant earth and rose hip tea. Medium-bodied, elegant and lively in the mouth, the palate is chock-full of bright and crunchy red and black fruits, finishing long and earthy." 93 Points, Lisa Perroti-Brown, Wine Advocate

Comte Armand Pommard Clos des Epeneaux 2017, 0.75L
Pinot Noir from Pommard, Burgundy

"The 2017 Pommard 1er Cru Clos des Epeneaux has gained in depth and dimension with élevage and showed very well from bottle, unfurling in the glass with an expressive, youthfully fruit-driven bouquet of raspberries, cherries, candied peel and rose petals, framed by a subtle touch of new oak. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, velvety and fleshy, with succulent acids and elegant tannins. While this isn't as rich, muscular or gourmand as the 2018, it's an immensely seductive wine that will drink well comparatively young—though readers should still plan on exercising at least a decade's patience." 94 Points, William Kelley, Wine Advocate

Domaine Chavy-Chouet Bourgogne Rouge La Taupe 2019, 0.75L

"A pure and fresh nose is comprised mostly by both red and dark pinot fruit along with hints of earth and humus. There is fine density to the delicious middle weight flavors that conclude in a softly rustic finish that offers better than average depth and persistence for a wine at this level. Worth considering." Allen Meadows,

"The 2019 Bourgogne Rouge La Taupe offers crunchy red berry fruit on the nose, which is almost Loire-like in style, displaying a touch of bell pepper. There is a bit more volume and better density to the attractively textured flavors that deliver solid depth and persistence on ever-so-mildly warm finale. This is a quality effort in the context of what is typical for the genre."Allen Meadows, Burghound

"The 2020 Bourgogne Les Saussots has a well-defined bouquet with apple blossom and light limestone aromas. "The 2019 Morey-Saint-Denis Vieilles Vignes contains 80% whole bunches. It has an opulent bouquet ... of dates and fig filtering through the black fruit but still fresh. The palate is medium-bodied with succulent red berry fruit laced with white pepper and bay leaf, opening up nicely on the finish that cruises along with a sprinkling of white pepper and cumin." 91-93 Neal Martin, Vinous

"80% whole bunch. From Très Girard, Les Cognées and Chenevery. Rich deep purple with a much more concentrated fruit on the nose, lifted a little by the whole bunches. Plump dark fruit, spicy notes, fills the mouth out, slightly darker fruit than En la Rue de Vergy and will take a little longer." 91-93 Jasper Morris MW, Inside Burgundy

"From a blend of Très Girard, Les Cognées and Chenevery; 80% whole cluster. This too is quite aromatically pretty with its ripe and fresh array of floral, spice and black currant that is laced with warm earth hints. There is excellent volume to the caressing yet powerful and concentrated medium-bodied flavors that culminate in a robust, serious and youthfully austere finale that offers even better depth and persistence. Excellent and recommended though note well that this is firmly structured for a Morey villages, so patience required." 89-92 Allen Meadows, Burghound.com

Max Ferd. Richter Mülheimer Sonnenlay Riesling Zeppelin #35 2021, 0.75L
Riesling from Brauneberg, Mosel

"The 2021er Mülheimer Sonnenlay Riesling Zeppelin comes from equal parts from own fruit (1/3) and fruit purchased from local growers in Mülheim (2/3), and was fermented down to fully off-dry levels of residual sugar (30 g/l). It offers a refreshing and undercooled nose of mint, anise, herbs, greengage, and candied lime. The wine proves round and nicely fruity as creamy and sweet elements interplay. The finish is nicely long and direct, and the acidity proves already very well integrated. This joyful and light off-dry Riesling is very well made. Now-2029" Mosel Fine Wine

Kofererhof Sylvaner R 2019, 0.75L
Sylvaner from Alto Adige Valle Isarco, Trentino Alto Adige Südtirol

"The 2019 Sylvaner R is deeper and richer than the 2020 beside it, with nuances of vanilla bean and dusty white flowers blossoming into crushed pears and hints of sweet spice. This impresses with the silkiest of textures that are cut by a laser-like core of bright acids and penetrating citrus tones. It all results in a long and stimulating finale with a salty flourish that goes on and on, further complemented by hints of candied lime that linger. Hold onto your seat when tasting because this is one of the top wines being made in Alto Adige today. Frankly stated, Günther Kerschbaumer of Köfererhof is currently making some of the best wines in Alto Adige today. Located in the Isarco River valley, this family-run operation is considered one of the smaller growers in the region, even with their 80,000-bottle production. While Kerschbaumer is fully aware of just how well his wines are being received, he remains completely humble. In fact, you're more likely to find him working in the vineyard before anywhere else. He oversees all practices throughout their six hectares of estate vines and five hectares of long-held, contracted parcels throughout the valley. All practices have been organic since before 1995, when the winery began bottling. Elevations range from 650 to 850 meters above sea level and all on steep, well-draining slopes. Kerschbaumer firmly believes that it’s the terroir that matters most, and as such the wines go through spontaneous fermentations, and nearly all of them are refined in stainless steel, with the exception of the Sylvaner R, where the wine matures in acacia wood casks. When tasting the Sylvaner R, you really taste the potential of this producer and the region as a whole. Check in on the wines of Köfererhof sooner rather than later because while there’s no talk of prices going up at this time, it’s only so long before this producer is truly discovered." 94+ Eric Guido, Vinous

"The Köfererhof 2019 Alto Adige Valle Isarco Sylvaner R is sharp and bright and held tightly together by a pretty limestone note of crushed stone. In addition to that mineral definition, you also get hints of tropical fruit, white peach and Golden Delicious apple. You might try this white with a bouillabaisse, from the South of France, or some other fish-stew recipe in your Rolodex." 93 Monica Larner, Wine Advocate

Dominio de Anza Parcelario I Diego Magana 2020, 0.75L
Mencía / Bastardo / Garnacha Tintorera from Bierzo, Castilla Y Leon

"There is no 2019, so we jumped to the 2020 Dominio de Anza Parcelario I from a vineyard in Otero on slate soils that fermented with 100% full clusters and matured in one 225-liter oak barrel. It's different from the wines from Valtuille and has more freshness. It has moderate ripeness and alcohol (12.7%); if Valtuille is more Rhône, this would be more Burgundy. I like this a little bit better than the El Rapolao. Unfortunately, there are only 300 bottles of this—it's what the vineyard delivers. In 2021, he used two plots and produced a little more wine, but he doesn't yet know if it's going to be blended or kept separate, perhaps with a more defined name." 96+ Points, Luis Guiterrez, Wine Advocate

Altos las Hormigas Appellation Paraje Altamira Malbec 2019 2019, 0.75L
Malbec from Altamira, Mendoza

"The 2019 Malbec Appellation Paraje Altamira is made with grapes from the eponymous Uco Valley GI and aged for 18 months in untoasted foudres. A rich violet in hue. The subtle, clean and austere nose offers notes of plum and cherry along with violet and herb aromas against a cedar backdrop. In the mouth, the core is provided by a juicy freshness while the texture is chalky. A little reactive grip makes for a compact, nimble and linear flow that guarantees it will grow in the bottle. Fresh grapes appear at the back of the throat enhanced by the tannins. Keep for a while before drinking to allow its subtle character to develop properly." 94 Points,

La Vizcaina (Raúl Pérez) Bierzo Las Gundiñas 2020, 0.75L
Mencía from Bierzo, Castilla y León

"The 2020 La Vizcaína Las Gundiñas has a new plot, a west-facing vineyard that is steeper and cooler. Pérez likes Gundiñas and Rapolao in warmer years like this. In 2020, 50% of the wine matured in 2,000-liter oak foudre and the other half in used 500-liter barrels. It was harvested much earlier, and the wine shows more freshness even if it shows more tannin today. He likes long macerations (40 to 45 days) and works toward having tannins and weight in his wines. Some 6,000 bottles were filled in August 2021." 95+ Luis Guiterrez, Wine Advocate

Artadi Izar-Leku Mahastiak Hondarribi Zuri Brut Nature 2017, 0.75L
Hondarrabi Zuri / Hondarribi Beltza from Gipuzkoa, Euskadi

"The third vintage of this mineral and salty sparkling white is the 2017 Izar-Leku, which was produced with a blend of 90% Hondarrabi Zuri and 10% Hondarrabi Beltza grapes from 20- to 60-year-old vines in Zarautz on sandy slate and clay soils. It fermented in stainless steel, and one-third of the volume matured in barrel with lees for six months before it was put in bottle to referment and spend an additional 36 months with lees, much longer (double the time!) than the 2016. It's 12.55% alcohol and has a pH of 3.13 and 8.2 grams of acidity (tartaric acid) and no residual sugar. It has higher acidity, which gives it more freshness; there's only partial malolactic; and the wine benefitted from more time in bottle to polish that acidity. It's yeasty and smoky with finesse and complexity, more than in previous years, given the extended contact with the lees. There are some apple notes, and it's clean and with finesse, with ultra fine bubbles and a lively sensation in the palate. There's more depth and length. It's a clear improvement over the already-excellent previous vintages. 20,000 bottles produced. It was disgorged in May 2021." 94 Points, Luis Guiterrez, Wine Advocate

Schloss Gobelsburg Kammern Gruner Veltliner Ried Lamm 1 OTW 2019, 0.75L
Gruner Veltliner from Kamptal, Niederösterreich

"The intensely yellow-colored 2019 Kammern Ried Lamm 1ÖTW was vinified in new 50-hectoliter oak vats and aged on the fine lees until July 2020. The nose is clearly influenced by its crystalline subsoils and delivers a coolish-mineral, flinty tone next to the perfectly ripe, elegant and finely concentrated white fruit that is discreet and refined like green tea. On the palate, this is a rich, piquant, very elegant, highly refined and persistently salty Veltliner that develops an enormously long and complex, finely tannic and sustainably structured finish. This is a great, very promising wine that assembles everything in the starting block to go a long distance. 13.5% alcohol. Diego Magaña Rioja Anza 2020, 0.75L
Tempranillo from Rioja, Rioja

"There are tender and subtle aromas in the 2020 Anza, yes, flowers, berries and herbs but also something reminiscent of very soft marzipan. The wine is incredibly elegant and subtle, very young, tender and delicate, still a baby; it's from a year when he got higher yields and the grapes ripened thoroughly, and the wines are ripe but without excess. It has 13.5% alcohol and soft, integrated acidity; it matured in 500-liter and oak foudre for 10 months. This should get rid of its baby fat with a little more time in bottle...The wines are excellent, among the best of the newer projects in Rioja." 94 Points, Luis Guterrez, Wine Advocate

Samuel Billaud Chablis Montée de Tonnerre 2020, 0.75L
Chardonnay from Chablis, Burgundy

"Situated at the top of Chapelot and made mostly in stainless steel with a 20% barrel influence, this is a chiselled, limestone thrill! Tense with acidic precision and tugging, chalk overlays, this plays hide-and-seek with stone fruits and savory tones. Best to wait a few to many years to allow the flavors to catch up to the structure." 94 Christy Canterbury MW, TimAtkin.com

"Always a first class cuvée chez Samuel Billaud, the Montée de Tonnerre in 2020 offers a gorgeous crisp pale colour, with real tension throughout. The nose is a bit backward, a pleasing flesh to finish, but the core is absolutely there. The light strawberry touch as well. Maybe not quite so persistent? Oh yes it is." 92-95 Jasper Morris MW, InsideBurgundy.com

"The 2020 Chablis 1er Cru Montée de Tonnerre is another notable success for Samuel Billaud this year. Unwinding in the glass with aromas of white flowers, citrus oil, white currants, freshly baked bread and beeswax, it's medium to full-bodied, ample and satiny, with a layered mid-palate underpinned by racy acids, concluding with a long, saline finish. Having parted ways with Domaine Billaud Simon, Samuel Billaud established his own state-of-the-art winery in central Chablis in 2009, and he has rapidly emerged as one of the town's best half-dozen producers, crafting wines characterized by textural seamlessness and unerring precision. Working with four hectares of organically farmed estate vineyards, supplemented by purchased grapes, manual harvesting of ripe but bright fruit is the rule here, followed by fermentation at 16 to 20 degrees Celsius in tank or inconspicuous wood, then maturation for 15 to 18 months on the lees for the premiers crus and grand cru bottlings. The 2020 vintage is another fine success, though readers will have a hard time choosing between the last half-dozen or so vintages at this address, so completely has Billaud realized each year's potential." 93+ William Kelley, Wine Advocate

"From a 0.45 ha holding in both Montée de Tonnerre proper and Chapelot. Billaud noted that this will also have about 20% wood in the final blend. A restrained, elegant and pure nose displays notes of various floral influences, citrus and mineral reduction. The refined but almost painfully intense medium-bodied flavors exhibit a lovely sense of minerality that adds a sense of lift to the impressively long and well-balanced finale. Lovely." 91-94 Allen Meadows, Burghound.com

"Typical Montée de Tonnerre, with an elegant palate yet full of concentration and energy. Manages to be both rich and weighty, yet with lots of finesse and drive. Long future ahead." 93 Andy Howard MW, Decanter

"From two plots on Haut de Chapelot and one in the namesake vineyard, the 2020 Chablis Montée de Tonnerre 1er Cru has quite a deep bouquet of dried honey, mineral and hints of green olive, unfolding nicely in the glass. The palate is well balanced with fine poise and crisp acidity. Elegant and finessed toward the finish, where white peach and citrus peel linger on the aftertaste. Very promising. Samuel Billaud is achieving ever-greater heights. It has been a joy to see him settle down, having first met him following the rather acrimonious division of Domaine Billaud-Simon after his family sold their shares to Faiveley. In fact, both are now making great Chablis, so consumers have probably gained from the fracas. Billaud has more or less finished work on his winery in central Chablis, just down the road from the William Fèvre tasting room, where I tasted a mixture of 2019 and 2020s. “We started picking the 2020s on August 28 and continued for around 10 to 12 days,” he explained. “You have the power of the vintage with the mineralité. It has a lot of potential. I think it will be higher in quality than 2019 because of the balance. We picked a little earlier in 2020, and I believe it is classic Chablis like 2012, 2014 and 2017.” Billaud always exudes confidence in his wines, and he has the quality to back that up. His judicious use of larger used wooden barrels for aging in various proportions with traditional stainless steel yields Chablis with plenty of terroir expression, density and tension. Highlights include a riveting 2020 Chablis Les Séchets courtesy of 80-year-old vines, and a stunning Montée de Tonnerre. Generally, I do find the 2020s potentially a little more consistent compared to the 2019s, although Billaud’s Grand Crus in this vintage are unmissable, particularly his Les Preuses and Vaudésir." 92-94 Neal Martin, Vinous

Bisson Glera Frizzante 2021, 0.75L
Glera from Marca Trevigiana, Veneto

"For many years now, Lugano has worked with his good friend Eli Spagnol of Torre Zecchei in the élite Valdobbiadene district of the Veneto. In a sea of vapid, overly sweet Prosecco, this friz- zante stands out proudly. Spagnol is in charge of a mere 30 ha, and our wine is hand-harvested from steep hillside vineyards in the DOCG zone of Valdobiaddene. The wine has just 2 g/l of residual sugar—a bone-dry offering that stands in sharp contrast to its many cloying peers. The Mascot Proprietary Red 2018, 0.75L
Cabernet Sauvignon from Napa Valley, California

"The Mascot began as a family wine, unnamed, unlabeled—a blend made for and poured at our own table. The components were of the highest pedigree, harvested from the younger vines of the Harlan family domain. The domain traces its beginning to the founding in 1984 of Harlan Estate, located in the western hills of Oakville and conceived as a “first growth of California.” In 1996, the family established BOND, a portfolio of “Grand Cru” vineyards whose wines showcase the range of expression of cabernet sauvignon across distinct geographical sites within the Napa Valley. Promontory, whose land the family acquired in 2008, is led by the family’s second generation and represents a 21st-century approach to winegrowing. As these varied sites were gradually replanted, many of the young vines contributed to my project. Yet, despite these distinguished origins, my early endeavor could only hint at the individual character embodied by each of our grands vins." Producer Notes

Reserved and shy still, due to its excellence. Give this four or five years to come around." 99 Points, James Suckling

"Both fluid and concentrated at once, this exudes cherry, black currant, violet and mineral aromas and flavors.Saturated with ripe fruit, this has beautifully integrated acidity and tannins, with a racy profile that drives the superlong finish. The tannins flex their muscles at the end yet remain refined." 98 Points, Bruce Sanderson, Wine Spectator

"The Ciacci Piccolomini d'Aragona 2016 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva Vigna di Pianrosso Santa Caterina d'Oro is gorgeous, full stop. The aromas meet with seamless integration and segue to ongoing depth and complexity offered to the palate. Tenuta San Guido Sassicaia 2019, 0.75L
Cabernet Sauvignon / Cabernet Franc from Bolgheri Sassicaia, Tuscany

"The latest release from Tenuta San Guido is the 2019 Bolgheri Sassicaia. The bouquet is up front and very expressive from the get-go. It offers a generous display of crunchy, dark cherry that hints at the extra concentration and fruit weight obtained in the 2019 growing season. This vintage will be remembered for the crisp richness of the fruit and its important textural imprint. It also shows fine elegance, bordering on the ethereal, with berry aromas, tarry earth and brushes of balsam herb or grilled rosemary. Sassicaia always shows an almost-glossy finely knit quality to the polished mouthfeel, and I find it again here next to fresh acidity and firm tannins. Mouthfeel in 2019 is the wine's strongest suit. The 2019 is one of the prettiest and most balanced editions of Sassicaia we've seen this past decade, along with the back-to-back duo of 2016 and 2015. The 2019 marries the precision of the 2016 with the rich fruit weight of the 2015."98 Points, Monica Larner, Wine Advocate

Tout and energetic on the palate, offering intense strawberry, orange zest and lavender flavors that are braced by a spine of chalky minerality. Finishes very long and precise, with repeating red fruit and floral notes and firm, minerally tension.  91 Points, Josh Raynolds, Vinous

Château Grillet 2018, 0.75L
Viognier from Château-Grillet, Rhône

"I tasted three different components of the 2018 Château Grillet. First, from the top of the property, a round, lush, silky, long wine (94 - 96). Second, from just behind the château, a more exotic, tropical barrel that was almost kinky in its restraint, full-bodied, rich and long (96 - 98). Finally, a barrel from an adjacent parcel (also mid-slope) that shows less opulence but even more power, structure and length (97 - 99). This should prove to be another great Château Grillet. I was fortunate to have only one visit on the day I arrived in France—and to have it be at this legendary property. Purchased by the Pinault family in 2011 and managed by Frédéric Engerer (who also looks after the family's other viticultural interests—Château Latour, Clos de Tart, Domaine Eugenie, Eisele Vineyard), the quality here is still on the upswing. Korean winemaker Jaeok Cramette arrived at the property in March of this year, having moved down from Domaine Eugenie in the Côte de Nuits. She previously worked for an importer in South Korea but came to France in 2008 to pursue a winemaking degree and stayed in Burgundy afterward. Despite being a recent arrival, she was conversant with all the vineyard plots, saying of the property's four hectares, ‘I feel like I'm doing gardening, not viticulture.’ This minuscule estate recently added an adjacent parcel of Condrieu, so going forward there will be three wines released each year." 98-98 Joe Czerwinski, Wine Advocate

Haut Segottes St. Emilion 2018, 0.75L
Cabernet Franc / Merlot from St. Emilion, Bordeaux

Tradition reigns at Haut-Ségottes. Harvest is manual. Fermentation takes place in cuve. Wines are rotated into barrel for an “elevage” of approximately 18 months. Approximately 20% of the barrels are new. Wines are bottled unfiltered. Although the majority of the vineyards are planted to Merlot (see above), the ultimate cuvée bottled as Chateau Haut Segottes Saint Emilion Grand Cru features a majority of Cabernet Franc. This dominance of Cabernet Franc (frequently on the order of 65%) produces a wine of considerable structure and is exceptionally age-worthy. We purchase 10,000 bottles per annum for sale in the USA. Importer Notes, Rosenthal Wine Merchant

Domaine La Manarine Côtes-du-Rhône Plan de Dieu Les Terres Saintes 2019, 0.75L
Grenache from Côtes-du-Rhône, Rhône

"The prestige cuvée of Manarine is destined for aging and bears the name: “Terres Saintes”. It is produced from a selection of lower yielding old vines (average 55 years old). Gilles destems the entire harvest and uses cement tanks for fermentation. The “Terres Saintes” (structured as a “vin de garde”) benefits from a longer “cuvaison” of 30 days or more. During the “elevage” both red wines go through “delestage” and “remontage” (a technique whereby the tank is completely emptied and the wine pumped back into it on top of the layer of skins) to extract color and flavor. Once the fermentation is complete, the wine is racked into cement vats for aging but 20% of the “Terres Saintes” is also aged for 8 months in “demi-muids” (larger barrels of 600 liter size). The wine is bottled without filtration after a 24 month “elevage”." Rosenthal Wine Merchant

Jean et Sébastien Dauvissat Chablis Les Preuses 2018, 0.75L
Chardonnay from Chablis, Burgundy

"The 2018 Chablis Les Preuses Grand Cru brings together all the best elements of the house style. Brisk and inviting with terrific energy, the Preuses has so much to offer. Like the Vaillons Vieilles Vignes, the Preuses was vinified in wood, and yet it shows better oak integration and a greater sense of completeness. A kick of Preuses mineral and floral notes punctuate the finish."92-94 Points, Antonio Galloni, Vinous

There is very good Chablis character to the aromas of petrol, quinine, tidal pool and various white-fleshed fruit scents that are trimmed in noticeable if discreet wood toast. The oak influence can be discerned on the palate as well as the firm, serious and youthfully austere finale. 91-93 Points, Allen Meadows, Burghound

Morgen Long Chardonnay Seven Springs Vineyard 2020, 0.75L
Chardonnay from Dundee Hills, Oregon

"The 2020 vintage of Seven Springs Vineyard chardonnay from Morgen Long was raised in sixty percent new oak this year (new Damy five hundred liter puncheon) and forty percent in a one wine three hundred and fifty liter cask. The wines comes in at 13.2 percent this year, with ninety cases produced. It offers up a beautifully gentle oak shading in its bouquet of pear, almond, chalky soil tones, chamomile, spring flowers and vanillin oak. On the palate the wine is bright, full-bodied, focused and rock solid at the core, with lovely mineral drive and grip, zesty acids and lovely length and grip on the complex and very nicely balanced finish. Domaine Savary Chablis Selection Vieilles Vignes 2020, 0.75L

"The Savarys have finally earned the recognition for their hard work, and are highly regarded in the appellation. The clay-limestone hillsides of the Kimmeridgian chain are excellent for growing dazzling, complex Chardonnay, also known here as “Beaunois.” However ideal the soil, Olivier brings his own brilliance to the table. The grapes from his vineyards throughout the Chablis appellation are blended into one fabulously complex village wine cuvée. He also bottles an extraordinary premier cru from Fourchaume, as well as a separate cuvée of old-vine fruit in heavy, wax-sealed bottles after élévage in demi-muids. These exquisite wines are quintessential Chablis, with unmistakable aromas of ancient crushed shells and a pronounced, racy mineral structure." Importer Notes

Chateau Montelena Chardonnay 2019, 0.75L
Chardonnay from Napa Valley, California

"I remember standing at the press as the first squeeze from our first lot of Chardonnay in 2019 began to trickle into the pan…and thinking WOW. Even at 6am and at that stage – cold juice scarcely 2 hours removed from the vine – it was clear that the potential for an effusive, rich, complex wine was there. The excitement lasted scarcely 10 seconds before it was time to get to work; time to envision, time to make (irreversible) decisions, and time to act. Seeing the potential, the mosaic in our minds, is one thing. Being naturally curious and receptive to new, creative ideas is another. But it’s in the translation, the execution, and the eventual realization of what’s finally in the glass that’s the greatest challenge yet ultimately the most gratifying." Winemaker Notes

Daniel Chotard Sancerre Rouge Le Chant de l'Archet 2018, 0.75L
Pinot Noir from Sancerre, Loire

"Daniel Chotard and his wife, Brigitte, live just outside Sancerre in the village of Reigny. The Chotard family has been making wine for well over two hundred years, though Daniel was initially reluctant to accept the family vocation and started as a teacher. Daniel is a bit of a Renaissance man. His enthusiasm and passion for learning extends beyond wine and into music; he is a gifted guitarist and accordion player. He organizes lively music and wine soirées that showcase wine as an equally compelling art form to jazz. He has also invited Kermit to bring his rootsy band to perform in Sancerre—stay tuned for concert dates! In recent years, Daniel has passed the reins of the domaine on to his son Simon. The terroir of Sancerre is widely regarded as producing one of the greatest expressions of the Sauvignon Blanc grape. Sancerre was once more celebrated for its red wine, a Parisian bistro favorite. Simon grows Pinot Noir as well, used to make both red wine and rosé. The hilltop town of Sancerre is surrounded by a commune of villages that collectively make up its eponymous appellation, and each village is blessed with varieties of a distinct limestone that imbues a lengthy mineral component to its wines. He farms the slopes of the village Crézancy-en-Sancerre, where flint meets clay and the famous Kimmeridgian limestone. Simon practices sustainable farming, and uses organic composts to treat the vines. Typically, he harvests his grapes later than his neighbors, resulting in full-bodied wines with a rich complexity. He has also transitioned away from using cultured yeasts, fermenting every wine naturally—a rare feat in an appellation where technical winemaking is still the norm. Simon’s quest for a more authentic expression of terroir has led him to isolate certain parcels on the basis of soil, experimenting with different aging vessels in the cellar (demi-muids, acacia, foudres...) to find the best match. Like his father’s music, Simon’s wines are luscious and complex with deep notes and long, satisfying finales. Sancerre Rouge “Le Chant de l’Archer:" Average Vine Age, 55 years; Wine ages both in stainless steel (70%) and fûts (30% new, 300 to 500 liter barrels); fter aging 1 year in fûts, wine is transferred to stainless steel tank for 6 months before bottling" - Kermit Lynch Wine Merchant

"Though the Côtes-du-Rhône is technically made from purchased fruit, Chave generally has financed his sources and takes their grapes by a métayage (sharecropping) arrangement. He has more or less complete control over the farming, which is organic. The grapes are shipped to Chave’s facility inside his Saint-Joseph Le Clos site in Mauves. Domaine de La Vieille Julienne Chateauneuf-du-Pape Réservé 2019, 0.75L
Grenache / Syrah / Cinsault / Counoise from Chateauneuf du Pape, Rhône

"Lastly, the 2019 Châteauneuf Du Pape Reserve is another magical wine, and I might have rated this cuvée a perfect score more than any other Southern Rhône. Unquestionably in the same realm as the 2017, 2016, 2010, 2005, 2003, and 2001, it has an incredible, full-bodied, massive style that somehow stays perfectly balanced, with flawless integration of its fruit, tannins, acidity, and alcohol. Lots of red, blue, and black fruits, loamy earth, Asian spice, licorice, and violet nuances emerge from the glass, and it hits the palate with full-bodied richness, building yet polished tannins, and a great, great finish. It’s a sexier, more opulent wine than the Les Hauts-Lieux release yet has the same perfect tannins that are so rare to find in the vintage. This required at least 4-5 years of bottle age and will drink brilliantly for 20-25+ years." 100 Points, Jeb Dunnuck, JebDunnuck.com

Bodegas Aleanna El Enemigo Malbec 2018, 0.75L

"The 2018 Malbec has some 8% Cabernet Franc in the blend, and it has only 13.5% alcohol while retaining very good acidity. The grapes were sourced from Gualtallary and were co-fermented. It's a serious, subtle and mineral Malbec, with some austerity and shy varietal aromas of violets and wild herbs. The palate is medium-bodied with terrific texture and very clean and focused flavors, and it has the chalky texture from the limestone-rich soils. 28,000 bottles produced. La Rasina Toscana Sangiovese 2017, 0.75L
Sangiovese from Toscana, Tuscany

There are fewer and fewer of them, but this estate is still a true Montalcino born, family run estate. La Rasina was founded in the early 1970's by the grandfather of the Mantengoli family, Santi. Later managed by Vasco, his son, and now by Marco, his grandson, the estate shows the dedication and excellence of an endeavor kept in the hands of one hardworking family over many years. La Rasina is located on the fine southeastern slope, or morning side of Montalcino in the Brunello DOCG area. Rolling hills with roses climbing over the old walls of the main house create an atmosphere of loving attention in this small family run property. "The 2019 Savigny-lès-Beaune Hauts-Jarrons 1er Cru comes from north-northeast- facing vines, whereas the domaine's others are south-facing. The soil is also slightly deeper and sandier here. This has the most floral bouquet, offering more red fruit and mineralité, and the best transparency of Pinoté among Chenu’s 2019s. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins and a fine bead of acidity. Cohesive and structured, leading to a vivid, slightly tart finish. Sangiovese from Brunello di Montalcino, Tuscany

"Aromas of cedar, berry, mushroom and burnt orange follow through to a full body with medium, chewy tannins and a fluid, flavorful finish. Not overdone." 93 Points, James Suckling, JamesSukling.com

"Generous, layered and rich, the Ciacci Piccolomini d'Aragona 2017 Brunello di Montalcino shows the generous fruit and deep layering that identifies this vintage . . . . This edition (with 69,000 bottles made) shows a bright note of sweet cherry that features strongly both on the bouquet and the palate. The wine shows lots of soft fruit with almond, spice and wild rose. From a hot and dry vintage . . . . The Ciacci Piccolomini d'Aragona estate is located in a rather cool location with south-facing vines and well-draining galestro soils on the back side of Castelbuovo dell'Abate. I always like to think of this tiny hilltop hamlet as the place where the day's sunbeams shine in Montalcino before sunset. Scar of the Sea Zinfandel Lopez Vineyard 2021, 0.75L
Zinfandel from Cucamonga Valley, California

Planted in 1918, 70 miles inland from Los Angeles and certified organic by CCOF, this vineyard is part of California history. Farmed today by the Galleano family, we are lucky to be able to make wine from this old vineyard. The vines are farmed without irrigation in granite rocks and sandy soil surrounded by freeways and track homes. This vineyard is one of the last reminders of an old California. This wine was picked on August 6th, fermented with native yeast and with 50% whole cluster. The grapes were basket pressed at dryness and then aged for 8 months in old French oak barrels before being bottled with minimal SO2 and without filtration. Winery Notes

Scar of the Sea Vino de los Ranchos Pinot Noir 2021, 0.75L

"The 2021 Pinot Noir Vino de Los Ranchos is a very pretty, vibrant Pinot Noir. Dark red fruit, lavender, rose petal, spice and leather give the 2021 its beguiling, mysterious personality. There's a lot of wine here, but the 2021 needs time in bottle to be at its best. Today, the youthful tannins are pretty imposing. I was deeply impressed with this set of wines from Scar of the Sea. Mikey and Gina Giugni source fruit from a number of top vineyards in Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo, many of them old-vine sites, for this range of wines. It’s hard to know where to start, but I especially liked the 2021 Alicante Bouschet Galleano Ranch and 2021 Syrah Bassi Vineyard, both of which show how compelling this vintage is shaping up to be. "The 2019 Châteauneuf Du Pape Vieilles Vignes (100% Grenache) brings more opulence and sexiness, with a more unevolved vibe in its ripe black fruits, violets, toasted spice, and Provençal garrigue-like aromas and flavors. Brought up in equal parts used barrels, new French oak, and demi-muids, it hits the palate with full-bodied richness, a seamless, incredibly elegant texture, ripe tannins, and one hell of a great finish. This is a Grenache lover's dream, and it should continue drinking brilliantly for another 10-15 years." 97 Points, Jeb Dunnuck, JebDunnuck.com

Chateau Thivin Côte de Brouilly 2020, 0.75L
Gamay from Côte de Brouilly, Beaujolais

"The 2020 Côte de Brouilly is already very expressive, bursting with aromas of ripe berry fruit, plums and cherries mingled with hints of raw cocoa and spices. Medium to full-bodied, layered and concentrated, it's rich and fleshy, with powdery tannins, lively acids and a sapid finish. In style, this is more muscular than the more elegant 2019, but both represent benchmarks for Beaujolais in their respective vintages." 93 Points, William Kelley, Wine Advocate

"Our second release of the AUSTIN Cabernet Sauvignon remains focused on our goal to produce a wine true to “Paso Robles”.  On the nose savory aromas intertwine with rich dark fruit nuances.  On the palate, flavors evolve into layers of juicy blackberry, spicy nutmeg, toasted coffee and fresh vanilla bean.  This medium to full bodied wine is finished with refined tannins and a distinguishable zing of acid to balance." Winery Notes

Raul Perez La Vizcaina Lomas de Valtuille La Del Vivo 2020, 0.75L

"The 2020 La Vizcaína La del Vivo is super harmonious, tasty and balanced. The wine matured in two 2,500-liter oak foudres, and a small part fermented and matured in amphorae with skins. It's varietal and expressive and comes from two plots, one with sandy soils and another one in Cacabelos with some boulders. There's always a small percentage of Doña Blanca in the blend. It's very dry and has a chalky texture. 6,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in August 2021." 95 Points, Luis Guiterrez, Wine Advocate

"The nose of the 2019 Ultreia Saint Jacques is nothing short of spectacular. It shows the varietal character and the juicy and round style of the Valtuille vineyards. It's harmonious, clean and expressive. They are using more and more stems with long macerations, malolactic in tanks and aging in 30% oak vats (he purchased from Alión) and 70% of the wine in used 225-liter oak barrels for one year. Crotin Barbera d'Asti La Martina 2018, 0.75L
Barbera from Barbera d'Asti, Piedmont

"This wine has been a constant favorite of many of our top Italian restaurants and others with Italian influenced cooking. It comes from likely the coldest section of Asti—quite close to Turin—which was the first area to be abandoned after WWII (because it had a train station while many other areas further south didn’t!) and one of the last to be replanted since. It’s a wine that showcases the classic qualities of Barbera, Piedmont’s most widely planted red grape. It’s fresh and textured with soft tannins and mouth-watering wild fruit qualities. Think of those Italian cooking nights without the need to hold the wine so precious; just let it lift your spirit and raise your glass in appreciation for the Italians and their contribution to the world with their splendid culture." Importer Notes

"They are convinced at the winery that the 2015 Señorío de P. Peciña Crianza is the best Crianza they have ever produced, which is often the case with the current vintage for sale... But I must admit that the wine was very impressively balanced, nuanced and complex. Bodegas Hermanos Pecina Rioja Senorio de Pecina Reserva 2013, 0.75L
Tempranillo from Rioja Alta, La Rioja

"The 2013 Señorío de P. Peciña Reserva has freshness and elegance and a lot of characteristics of traditional Rioja. 2013 was a challenging year, but it also provided good conditions to produce fresher wines. This was produced with a soft vinification, not too extractive or long, with indigenous yeasts in stainless steel and matured in used American oak barrels for three years with rackings every six months. It has the telltale aromas of spices and balsam (cigar ash, incense), wet forest floor and wild berries. The palate is sleek and polished, with resolved tannins and good acidity. It should drink nicely for a good five years and stay on a plateau of maturity for longer. 42,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in December 2017." 92 Points, Luis Guiterrez, Wine Advacate

Bodegas Hermanos Pecina Rioja Senorio de Pecina Cosecha 2019, 0.75L
Tempranillo from Rioja Alta, La Rioja

"The 2019 Rioja “Cosecha” from Bodegas Peciña is a lovely wine, with plenty of black fruit informing both the nose and the palate. The bouquet is bright and jumps from the glass in a mix of black cherries, dark berries, cigar smoke, just a touch of Rioja spice tones and a good base of soil. On the palate the wine is vibrant, full-bodied and tangy, with a fine core of ripe fruit, good focus and grip, moderate tannins and a long, well-balanced finish. This is still a young wine, but it is eminently drinkable already and will only get better with a bit of bottle age. This augurs extremely well for the Crianzas, Reservas and Gran Reservas we will see down the road from the 2019 vintage, as this wine is really excellent for its level! Raúl Pérez 'Ultreia La Claudina' Godello Bierzo 2020, 0.75L
Godello from Bierzo, Castilla y León

"They have lowered the alcohol and ripeness in most of the whites, but some vineyards are more difficult than others... The 2020 Ultreia La Claudina comes from a plot on sandy soils that needs higher ripeness to avoid excess bitterness. In 2020 it matured in 50% new barrels as they wanted to see how the wine behaved. It has power and consistence, but the style is a little different from what the wine was before, a little creamier and marked by the élevage. It's more exuberant and quite the opposite from the rectitude of La del Vivo. There are some 2,200 bottles from 1,700 liters of wine." 94 Points, Luis Guiterrez, Wine Advocate

Domaine De La Pepiere Muscadet Sevre et Maine Sur Lie La Pepie 2019, 0.75L
Melon de Bourgogne from Muscadet-Sèvre et Maine, Loire

"In 2016, Pépière's classic, earliest-release bottling saw an addition to the label, the "La Pépie" moniker, because of the necessity of adding non-estate fruit to the production (Pépière had 85% of their own crop devastated in 2016 due to mildew). It marks the first time the estate has purchased fruit.

It comes from neighboring parcels that match their terroirs and work philosophy. The wine is a combination of said purchased fruit and estate fruit, 50% of which comes from vineyards that could technically produce cru bottlings." Importer Notes

Masi Serego Alighieri Amarone della Valpolicella Classico Vaio Armaron 2003, 0.75L
Corvina / Rondinella / Molinara from Amarone della Valpolicella Classico, Veneto

"The 2003 Amarone della Valpolicella Classico is a darker and more earthy vintage for Vaio Armaron yet offers depths of crushed cherries, plum sauce, autumnal spice and a refreshing hint of minty herbs. It’s velvety and weighty in texture, supported by brisk acids and cool-toned red and black fruits contrasting with hints of sour citrus. It’s amazing how savory the 2003 shows today; however, it’s also full of energy and focused, as inner florals and hints of dried blueberries linger long. While this is a late release and included in the vintage collection, it has yet to be recorked. Also of note is that, due to the heat and dry conditions of the vintage, the 2003 did not benefit from the addition of botrytized fruit. Instead, it makes up for that glycerol-like sweetness with slightly more residual sugar than most vintages, at around 7 grams per liter." 92 Points, Eric Guido, Vinous

Le Ragnaie Brunello di Montalcino Passo Del Lume Spento 2017, 0.75L
Sangiovese from Brunello di Montalcino, Tuscany

"The Le Ragnaie 2017 Brunello di Montalcino Passo del Lume Spento (with 3,020 bottles made) sees its fruit sourced from one of the highest places in the appellation, or the "pass of the extinguished lantern," as the wine's name translates into English. It is part of a broader trend that Montalcino vintners seem to be looking for cooler, high-altitude growing sites for Sangiovese. This wine demonstrates without a doubt that elevation is key in obtaining elegance in the warm years. This Brunello is particularly bright, punchy and energetic. "There is no doubt the 2007 Barolo Campe is impressive. It is a beautifully balanced wine layered with opulent, super-ripe fruit, new leather and licorice. The French oak is beautifully balanced in this broad-shouldered Barolo, while the fruit avoids the overripe tendencies of the past. The wine holds up perfectly in the glass, which hasn't always been the case. Tar, licorice and spices wrap around the intense finish. This is the finest vintage of Campe to date. La Spinetta Barolo Campe Vigneto Vursu 2006, 0.75L
Nebbiolo from Barolo, Piedmont

"The 2006 Barolo Campe' is one of the most elegant wines I have ever tasted from La Spinetta. A deep, translucent red, the Campe' opens with a captivating bouquet of roses, spices, flowers and cherries, all of which resonate on the palate. The wine turns muscular in the glass, with powerful tannins that frame the expressive, generous fruit. There is plenty of richness and concentration, yet without the over-ripeness and excessive oakiness of past vintages. Smoke, tar and herbs are just some of the nuances that come to life as the dense fruit provides a wonderful foil to the tannins on the finish. This, too, is a terrific effort from La Spinetta. The 2006 Campe' was fermented in rotary tanks for 7-8 days and underwent malolactic fermentation in new French oak, where the wine was aged for 24 months prior to being bottled." 93 Points, Antonio Galloni, Vinous

"The 2020 Cabernet Franc is brilliant and beautifully focused. Dazzling red cherry, mint and rose petal. Tasted next to the Cabernet Franc Sans Soufre, this has more focus and brightness. Heat spikes in 2020 seem to have dialed up the fruit and baked out some of the more vegetal Franc notes, but there is still tons of varietal character." 94 Points, Antonio Galloni, Vinous

Cultivar Cabernet Sauvignon North Coast 2019, 0.75L
Cabernet Sauvignon from North Coast, California

"Luscious and enticing is the best way to introduce the latest bottling of our “Gold Label” Cabernet. Though the bright, brick color is more reminiscent of an aged Cabernet, the aromas of toasted oak, tobacco, and pepper are vibrant and young. On the palate, this 100% Cabernet Sauvignon explodes with dark cherry, blueberry, root beer, and sarsaparilla, then finishes bright with flavors of exotic spices, cedar, and a hint of cassis. Beautiful tannins create a firm but opulent structure, while a quick aerating or decanting reveals even greater complexity. This medium bodied wine is built for pleasure and food. Go traditional with a grilled cheese sandwich with tomato soup or discover just how versatile this wine can be with black truffle fettuccini, bison meatloaf, or elk chops." Winery Notes

Nicholas Allen Carte Blanche Cabernet Sauvignon 2016, 0.75L
Cabernet Sauvignon from Napa Valley, California

"A different beast, the 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon (100% Cabernet Sauvignon) is more backward and reticent, and while it needs 4-5 years of bottle age, is packed with potential. Both black and blue fruits, earth, tobacco, and freshly crushed rock notes all flow to a full-bodied 2016 that has plenty of fine tannins, remarkable purity of fruit, and beautiful intensity and length. Do your best to give this some bottle age, and you’ll be rewarded with a phenomenal Napa Valley Cabernet that will keep for 2-3 decades."97 Points, Jeb Dunnuck, JebDunnuck.com

This is really structured with a compressed and exciting palate of intense fruit and compact tannins. Full-bodied yet reserved and holding back. Fantastic length. Give this three to four years of bottle age. Wait until 2022. 96 Points, James Suckling, JamesSuckling.com

Charles Smith Syrah Stoneridge Vineyard Royal City 2015, 0.75L
Syrah from Columbia Valley, Washington

"Another magical Syrah is the 2015 Syrah Royal City. It shows a more finesse-driven (I wrote Burgundian in my notes), ethereal style as well as a beautiful perfume of kirsch and black cherry liqueur intermixed with notes of crushed flowers, ground herbs, pepper, and dried earth. Full-bodied, seamless, and ultra-fine on the palate, it has no hard edges and flawless balance, all making for an incredibly thrilling Syrah that’s already a joy to drink. High Coast Hav Single Malt Whisky NV, 0.75L
Whisky from Bjärtrå, Sweden

"A culture of high-quality craftsmanship, innovation, and environmental consciousness sets Nordic whiskies apart from other world whiskies. Hav, Swedish for the sea, is part of High Coast’s exceptional Origins series, and its flavor shorthand is oak spice. Wood spices, peat smoke, vanilla cream, and orange peel on the nose precede a lush palate of fruit and spice displaying sweet apricot, peach, honey, and dried tropical fruits, with a lengthy, spicy finish. Matured in bourbon casks, it mingles batches of peated and unpeated spirit, with some components receiving an accelerator period in 40-liter casks coopered from Hungarian and Swedish oak."
"This single malt is crafted in Sweden, taking advantage of the extreme temperature changes during its maturation process. Crafted with both peated and unpeated whisky, it has matured in a combination of ex-bourbon casks from Kentucky, Swedish oak casks, and Hungarian oak casks. Tasting Notes: The nose is fruity and spicy with aromas of clove, gentle peat, and nutmeg. The palate features a nice balance of fruit and spice, along with hints of peat. The finish is oaky with vanilla and clove." 93 Points/Top 20 Whiskies of 2021, Whisky Advocate

Castello di Perno Barolo Castelletto 2017, 0.75L
Nebbiolo from Barolo, Piedmont

"I love the modern label design of this handsome bottle. The Castello di Perno 2017 Barolo Castelletto reveals a robust bouquet with concentrated perfumes that recall dried cherry, black rose and fragrant tea leaf. Much of that intensity comes as a natural part of the vintage, with heat and dry growing conditions that produced smaller, richer berries." 93 Monica Larner, Wine Advocate

"Monforte d'Alba. Just mid ruby with the beginning of orange tinges. Savoury earthy marasca cherry nose with hints of cinnamon bark. Lots of personality here. Tightly wound, supple, concentrated cherry with plenty of fresh acidity. Finely grained tannins complement the whole. Chapelle Saint Theodoric Chateauneuf-du-Pape Les Sablons 2019, 0.75L
Grenache from Chateauneuf-du-Pape, Rhône

"Looking at the 2019s, all of which are still aging in barrel, the 2019 Châteauneuf Du Pape Les Sablons can be thought of as the entry level Grenache. Destemmed and aged in older barrels, this round, mouth-filling, medium to full-bodied Grenache offers lots of red and black fruits as well as some meaty, spicy nuances. It will have plenty of up-front appeal.

While the Chapelle Saint Theodoric wines are made by Baptiste Grangeon of Domaine de Cristia, the wines are dramatically different in style and are mostly not destemmed (the base Les Sablons can be destemmed) and aged all in older, larger oak barrels. These are much more perfumed, floral, elegant wines. and I always find a Burgundy-like character. In general, the Les Sablons and La Guigasse are the most approachable, with the Le Grand Pin always requiring additional bottle age to show at its best." 93-95 Points, Jeb Dunnuck, JebDunnuck.com

"The 2019 Châteauneuf Du Pape Le Grand Pin is more vibrant and complex, offering notes of juniper bush, white pepper, sappy herbs, and assorted dark fruits. Coming all from the northern part of the Pignan lieu-dit and all Grenache that was not destemmed, it’s full-bodied and has a great mouthfeel, plenty of tannins, and a great finish. It’s another stunning wine from this team.

Domaine Les Aphillanthes Côtes du Rhône Plan de Dieu Cuvée des Galets 2019, 0.75L
Grenache / Mourvèdre / Syrah from Côtes du Rhône-Villages Plan de Dieu, Rhône

"Domaine les Aphillanthes’ Côtes-du-Rhône “les Galets” Plan de Dieu from is produced from forty-six year-old vines, with the cépages sixty percent grenache and twenty percent each of syrah and mourvèdre, with all the vines farmed biodynamically. The wine is fermented and aged in cement vats. The 2019 les Galets comes in at 14.5 percent alcohol and delivers a fine, ripe aromatic constellation of raspberries, roasted meats, a fine base of soil and a lovely, complex topnote of garrigue. On the palate the wine is bright, full-bodied and tangy, with a rock solid core of fruit, firm, well-integrated tannins and a long, complex and beautifully balanced finish. Like so many 2019s from the south, this has more structure than in most vintages, but I really love the balance here and this wine is going to be outstanding once it softens up and drink well for many years. I would give it a year or two in the cellar to let it drop a bit of tannin, and then drink it with great enjoyment over the next fifteen years or more. It is quite cool on the backend for its octane. Fine juice. (Drink between 2023-2040)" 91 Points, John Gilman, View From the Cellar

Viñedo Chadwick 2015, 0.75L
Cabernet Sauvignon from Puente Alto, Valle del Maipo

"Very deep and primary fruit character to this red gives the wine amazing length and focus. It seems to go on forever. Full body yet vivid and energetic. Tannic and muscular yet so polished and refined." 99 James Suckling

Picked in March for the first time, this is the freshest and most refined release yet from this bijou Maipo Alto vineyard. More Lafite than Latour in style, it’s elegant, refined and refreshing, with wonderful grace and poise, chalky minerality and notes of graphite, cassis and fennel. A wine that (just about) merits its hefty price tag. 98 Tim Atkin MW

"Based on 100% Cabernet Sauvignon from the Vinedo Chadwick Vineyard, aged 22 months in 73% new French oak (15% was in foudre), the 2015 Vinedo Chadwick is an incredible effort that has both elegance and richness. Notes of crème de cassis, graphite, wet stone-like minerality, and plenty of leafy herb characteristics all emerge from this medium to full-bodied, seamless, gorgeously polished red. It’s already drinking nicely yet should cruise in the cellar..." 97 Jeb Dunnuck

"I also tasted the 2015 Viñedo Chadwick from a warm and dry vintage that resulted in very healthy grapes that were picked earlier than ever. The parameters are remarkably similar to the 2014, and the winemaking and élevage were also virtually the same, fermentation in stainless steel and aging in French barriques (73% new) and with some 15% matured in a Stockinger oak foudre. As I saw in many other 2015s, this is the most elegant and refined vintage I have seen of this wine. With ultra-refined tannin, the wine is dry, very clean, not minty at all, with very good tension and length, with a chalky, tasty, almost salty finish. Of course, the classical notes of cedar wood, black peppercorns and tobacco are there, but in a very subtle way. Super elegant . . . . Superb showing of the Aconcagua Costa range from Errázuriz, the wines that started the transformation towards fresher wines with less sweetness and oak. God bless them!" 95 Luis Gutiérrez, Wine Advocate

Viñedo Chadwick 2018, 0.75L
Cabernet Sauvignon / Petit Verdot from Puente Alto, Valle del Maipo

"The 2018 Chadwick is the best release yet from this polo field turned world-class vineyard. Elegant and ethereal, with no sign of tell-tale Chilean eucalyptus, it’s a red that could easily be slipped incognito into a tasting of top Bordeaux crus classés. More Margaux than Pauillac in style, with raspberry and red cherry fruit and supple, fine-grained tannins." 99 Tim Atkin MW

"The aromas show blackcurrant, pine-tree, violet and light spearmint character. Full-bodied, yet reserved and tight with fine, creamy tannins. Hints of currants and fresh herbs. Extremely long and layered. Try after 2022." 98 James Suckling

"They talk about textbook climate conditions during the growing season for the grapes used for the 2018 Viñedo Chadwick, mostly Cabernet Sauvignon with a 3% dash of Petit Verdot. The vines are planted on alluvial soils, and the grapes were picked in the morning and transported to the winery to be fermented in a combination of stainless steel (75%) and troncoconic concrete vats. Eighty percent of the wine matured in new French oak barriques and the remaining 20% in Stockinger oak foudres for a period of 22 months. It's 13.5% alcohol and has very good acidity. Viñedo Chadwick is a little warmer as a zone than the vineyards of Seña, but the wine is still very fresh, with moderate alcohol, perfectly ripe fruit and super integrated oak, coming through as elegant within the powerful style of the zone, with red and black fruit, some aromatic herbs, the cedary and spicy notes of the variety and the signature tannins of Cabernet, keeping the juiciness of the last few years. The little bit of Petit Verdot in the blend gives it a spicy touch. It's vibrant, balanced and intense, still a little young and creamy, and I'd wait a little bit longer before pulling the cork. This can surely age in bottle, as it has the ingredients and the balance to do so; it has the elegance of 2016 with a little more structure and depth—and a little more clout too. 10,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in February 2020. Viñedo Chadwick is an unusual project, as the vineyard was planted in 1992 on a polo court that belonged to the father of Eduardo Chadwick of Errázuriz and Seña. The polo field was, of course, on prime vineyard land in Puente Alto, one of the most prestigious places in Maipo." 97 Luis Gutiérrez, Wine Advocate

"The 2018 Viñedo Chadwick is 97% Cabernet Sauvignon and 3% Petit Verdot from the Chadwick vineyard in Puente Alto, and was aged for 22 months in four-fifths new barrels and the rest foudres. Crisp violet in hue. The precise, subtle nose offers pure red fruit notes along with sour cherry, black currant, black tea and hints of mint and pepper. Juicy on the palate, displaying accomplished balance; the tannins are fine-grained with a solid volume that gets a little kick of freshness at the end, enhancing the depth of flavor. A classic wine executed with a watchmaker’s attention to detail." 96 Joaquín Hidalgo, Vinous

Merlot / Cabernet Franc from St. Emilion, Bordeaux

The 2018 Le Prieuré is all class, just as it was en primeur. Silky, perfumed and light on its feet, the 2018 is a fabulous example of how refined Saint-Émilion can be. Once again, I am so impressed by the wine's freshness and vitality. Sweet red cherry fruit, blood orange, mint and cinnamon all build over time, but what stands out most is the wine's exceptional balance and harmony. Joh. Jos. Prum Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Auslese 2020, 0.75L
Riesling from Wehlen, Mosel

"The 2020er Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Auslese offers a gorgeously attractive and ripe nose of almond cream, honeyed peach, smoke, tangerine, orange zest, candied grapefruit, and apricot. The wine is luscious and proves well on the sweet side on the palate. There is presence and intensity, yet the finish is already airier and more refined than what one could initially expect. Patience will be required, as usual, for the wine to develop its full complexity and integrate all its elements." 94 Points, Mosel Fine Wines

Joh. Jos. Prum Graacher Himmelreich Riesling Spatlese 2020, 0.75L
Riesling from Graach, Mosel

"The 2020er Graacher Himmelreich Riesling Spätlese offers a quite rich and even slightly ripe nose of almond cream and bakery products as well as honeyed yellow peach, William’s pear, apricot, and anise, all wrapped into smoky and refined elements. The wine coats the palate with ample and sweet fruits, which give a smoother and ampler structure to the wine. The finish has however more presence and intensity, but still needs to integrate its tale of initial sweetness. This clearly has some upside potential as it gains finesse and elegance over time." 92+ Points, Mosel Fine Wines

Joh. Jos. Prum Graacher Himmelreich Riesling Kabinett 2020, 0.75L
Riesling from Graach, Mosel

"The 2020er Graacher Himmelreich Riesling Kabinett is still marked by some fine flinty reduction at first but quickly reveals an aromatic and superbly attractive side including whipped almond cream, grapefruit, white flowers, vineyard peach, herbs, and a hint of Pina Colada. The wine proves very delicate and airy on the light-weighted palate. The aftertaste leaves one with superbly smoky and fruity flavors, which still proves tight but loaded with energy. This is a superb Kabinett in the making."  91 Points, Mosel Fine Wines

Joh. Jos. Prum Graacher Himmelreich Riesling Auslese 2020, 0.375L
Riesling from Graach, Mosel

"The 2020er Graacher Himmelreich Riesling Auslese offers a beautifully pure and ripe nose of smoke, grapefruit, lime, vineyard peach, minty herbs, and bacon-driven aromatics from residual from its spontaneous fermentation. The wine coats the palate with gorgeously ripe and juicy notes of fruits and leaves a superbly pure, smooth, and almost soft and suave feel in the hugely long finish. The aftertaste is still loaded with sweetness in need of integration, which will need quite some time to integrate. There is upside potential as the wine gains finesse with age."  93+ Points, Mosel Fine Wines
