Bodegas Aleanna El Enemigo Malbec 2018, 0.75L
Malbec from Mendoza, Mendoza
"The 2018 Malbec has some 8% Cabernet Franc in the blend, and it has only 13.5% alcohol while retaining very good acidity. The grapes were sourced from Gualtallary and were co-fermented. It's a serious, subtle and mineral Malbec, with some austerity and shy varietal aromas of violets and wild herbs. The palate is medium-bodied with terrific texture and very clean and focused flavors, and it has the chalky texture from the limestone-rich soils. 28,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in July 2019 after 12 months in ancient oak foudres." 93 Points, Luis Guiterrez, Wine Advocate

"A rich and ripe expression of chardonnay that offers lemon, lime and peach aromas, as well as savory nougat and toasted-nut complexity. Weingut Neumeister Sauvignon Blanc Ried Moarfeitl 2020, 0.75L
Sauvignon Blanc from Vulkanland Steiermark, Straden
"Neumeister's 2020 Sauvignon Blanc Ried Moarfeitl GSTK offers a clear, complex and dense nose with fine soil spice and lots of iodine. Delicate on the palate, yet with substance and plenty of salt—most of all in the finish—this is a remarkably purist and fresh Moarfeitl with personality and a lot of finesse and elegance but also complexity. 13% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted in Grafenegg in September 2022." 93 Stephan Reinhardt, Wine Advocate

Bernhard Ott Gruner Veltliner Ried Rosenberg 2017, 0.75L
Gruner Veltliner from Wagram, Wagram
"From 60-year-old vines picked on September 29, Ott's Feuersbrunner 2017 Grüner Veltliner Ried Rosenberg 1ÖTW is super clear, precise and fresh on the nose where tropical and stone fruit aromas such as apricots, white peaches, nectarines, papayas and mangos are displayed. Full-bodied, lush and round with very fine acidity and good structure, this is a densely woven, fleshy, super elegant, persistent and very powerful Veltliner with an impressive but slightly massive finish. Super sexy but I tend to prefer the Spiegel from the 2017 vintage. Tasted at Schloss Grafenegg and three weeks later in Vienna, both September 2018." 93 Points, Stephen Reinhardt, Wine Advocate

Antoine Sunier Morgon 2020, 0.75L
Gamay from Morgon, Beaujolais
"Deep violet. Primary, mineral-tinged cherry, black raspberry and violet aromas take on a spicy nuance with air. Offers densely packed yet lively dark berry, cherry preserve and spicecake flavors and a touch of cola. Betrays no rough edges and shows excellent clarity on a strikingly long, subtly tannic finish that emphatically echoes the floral and mineral notes." 93 Josh Raynolds, Vinous
"Antoine Sunier’s Morgon hails from two lieux à dits, les Grands Cras and Croix de Chèvres, with all of the vines in excess of sixty years of age. The wine is fermented in cement vats with carbonic maceration and then racked off to old Burgundy casks for elevage. The 2020 Morgon is a beautiful wine in the making, delivering a superb aromatic constellation of black cherries, sweet dark berries, pomegranate, fresh thyme, dark soil tones, coffee bean and a topnote of bonfire. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, sappy and soil-driven, with a beautiful core of fruit, ripe, seamless tannins, lovely focus and grip and a long, beautifully balanced and complex finish. This is outstanding juice in the making." 93 John Gilman

Domaine Lafarge-Vial Fleurie Clos Vernay 2016, 0.75L
Gamay from Fleurie, Beaujolais
"The 2016 Fleurie Clos Vernay wafts from the glass with a nuanced bouquet of raspberries, wild plums, dark chocolate and loamy soil. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, tangy and quite concentrated, framed by elegantly fine-grained tannins that nevertheless suggest this is a wine that will go the distance, much like the family's Volnays." 93 Points, William Kelley, Wine Advocate
"A markedly more complex if not more elegant combination offers up notes of both red and dark raspberry that are cut with hints of earth and pepper. There is more volume and intensity to the concentrated and serious medium-bodied flavors that terminate in a mildly austere finish that is notably longer. This is excellent and well-worth considering." 92 Points, Allen Meadows, Burghound

Bret Brothers La Soufrandiere Saint-Veran La Bonnode Cuvee Ovoide 2019, 0.75L
Chardonnay from Saint-Véran, Burgundy
"The 2019 Saint-Véran Climat 'La Bonnode' Ovoïde is aged in concrete eggs for 12 months and six months in stainless steel vat. I actually discern more complexity on the nose compared to the regular cuvée with touches of white chocolate mixing with the yellow plum and orange zest, less menthol here. The palate is more tensile, lively and very focused - it seems to have more animation and energy on the finish. This is just sublime." 93 Neal Martin, Vinous

"Aromas of ripe stone fruit, buttercups, lemons and some yoghurt. Full-bodied, supple and creamy with vibrant acidity. Delicious finish with excellent concentration. Drink now. " 93 Points, James Suckling
A firmly reduced nose reveals almost nothing except that the underlying fruit seems ripe. Otherwise there is both good verve and freshness to the delicious, round and rich medium-bodied flavors that are shaped by lemon-tinged acidity where a hint of citrus zest bitter arises. This lightly stony effort is quite good too and more classically styled. 90-92 Points, Allen Meadows, Burghound

The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red fruit, just a touch of liquorice. Very nicely refined with good matière on the finish, this is a very fine Pommard. Chavy-Chouet Meursault les Charmes 2020, 0.75L
Chardonnay from Meursault, Burgundy
"The 2020 Meursault Les Charmes 1er Cru perhaps does not deliver quite the same mineralité or energy as the Les Genevrieres on the nose, maybe a little timid at the moment. The palate is well balanced with a sapid entry, quite saline with hints of oyster shells and fruits de mer towards its composed and persistent finish. Very fine. (Drink between 2024-2040)"93 Points, Neal Martin, Vinous
"Moderately generous wood stops just short of fighting with the ripe aromas of pear and apple compote, citrus confit and white peach. The rich and relatively full-bodied flavors possess an abundance of dry extract that buffers the firm, palate coating and powerful finish. Some patience would be beneficial here as well as this is presently quite compact though not especially austere." 92 Points, Allen Meadows, Burghound

"Bottled shortly before I tasted it, Giroux's emblematic 2020 Pouilly-Loché Clos des Rocs (Monopole) unwinds in the glass with aromas of orange zest, Anjou pear, freshly baked bread, citrus blossom and nutmeg. Medium to full-bodied, satiny and fleshy, with racy acids and a long, saline finish, it's a quintessentially elegant, seamless wine which I'm sure will show even better when it has bounced back from bottling." 93 Points, William Kelley, Wine Advocate

"The 2020 Saint-Aubin Les Murgers des Dents de Chiens 1er Cru has a pretty bouquet that opens with orange blossom, red apples, a touch of melted wax and jasmine, all beautifully defined. The palate is very poised on the entry, the 25% new oak lending a little weight and depth, hints of orange zest, apricot and quince towards the finish. Give this 2-4 years for the oak to assimilate - it’s a great Saint-Aubin. (Drink between 2025-2040)" 93 Points, Neal Martin, Vinous

Georges Lignier Clos de la Roche 2016, 0.75L
Pinot Noir from Morey St. Denis, Burgundy
"The estate owns five plots on a range of different soil, with the vines averaging about 60 years of age: Moderately saturated medium red. Aromas of cherry, strawberry and raspberry accented by brown spices; the nose suggests a bigger wine than the Clos Saint-Denis. The large-scaled and deeper in the mouth but tightly wound, with its red fruit flavors complicated by soil-driven notes of menthol, stone, dried flowers, spices and underbrush. A bit more powerful and tannic than the Clos Saint-Denis, this wine will also require a minimum of five or six years of aging upon release .... Benoît Stehly told me he 'loves' the style of 2016, and he prefers his ‘16s to his ‘15s for their balance and elegance. 'It’s unusual to have very fruity and very fresh wines at the same time,' he went on, 'and the tannins are wonderfully ripe.'" 91-94 Stephen Tanzer, Vinous

de Montille Puligny Montrachet 2019, 0.75L
Chardonnay from Puligny Montrachet, Burgundy
"The majority of the fruit for this village Puligny is from a section of the Chalumeaux Premier Cru, that was declassified as village when a former owner brought in topsoil from outside the appellation in 1975. The bunches are lightly crushed and gently pressed, before being vinified in mostly old casks. The result has a beautiful, lemony fruit, with hints of flint and beeswax, plus a luxurious texture that splits the difference between opulence and racy finesse." 93 Points, Decanter Magazine

"The dark and spicy 2017 Artïûl wafts up with balsam herbs, allspice and cloves complementing black cherry and hints of cocoa. This enters the palate with prominence through it's mineral-tinged red berries that saturate but also energized by brisk acids. It displays tremendous length with grippy tannin yet also remains primary and intense. Hold on to your seat today with this high-test, varietal Merlot, yet time should mellow it out and unlock further depths." 93 Eric Guido, Vinous
"In the words of proprietor/winemaker Stefano Novello: 'This is perhaps my best wine. Eduardo Torres Acosta IGT Rosso Arenaria 2019, 0.75L
Nerello Mascalese from Terre Siciliane, Sicily
"The 2019 Nerello Mascalese Arenaria lifts from the glass with a dazzling bouquet of incense, dried violets, spiced tangerine and cherry pits. This is silky-smooth and elegant, with depths of red berries laced with lavender under an air of blue and purple florals. Tannins slowly build, creating a structured finish; yet there’s a pleasant inner sweetness that lingers and keeps me looking back to the glass. The 2019 Arenaria is simply stunning, and to think that this is the first vintage. This is from a half-hectare, north-facing parcel, just outside of the Etna zone, on Mt. Portella at 700 meters. However, the soils aren’t volcanic, but instead sub-marine sandstone with clay and quartz. I can’t wait to see what a few years of cellaring will add to this already beautiful wine." 93 Eric Guido, Vinous

This edition (with 69,000 bottles made) shows a bright note of sweet cherry that features strongly both on the bouquet and the palate. The wine shows lots of soft fruit with almond, spice and wild rose. From a hot and dry vintage . . . . The Ciacci Piccolomini d'Aragona estate is located in a rather cool location with south-facing vines and well-draining galestro soils on the back side of Castelbuovo dell'Abate. I always like to think of this tiny hilltop hamlet as the place where the day's sunbeams shine in Montalcino before sunset. This estate is certified for organic farming. 93 Monica Larner, Wine Advocate
"Rich and lively, exuding cherry, plum and blackberry fruit, with accents of earth and underbrush. Harmonious and accessible now, with fine length and a lingering, mineral-tinged finish." 93 Wine Spectator

Ficomontanino Toscana Rosso Granomelo 2018, 0.75L
Sangiovese from Tuscany, Tuscany
"Dusty cherry and crushed fall leaves evolve slowly into a deeper display of citrus-tinged raspberries, cinnamon and sweet white smoke as the 2018 Rosso Granomelo blossoms in the glass. This seduces with a silky wave of pure, ripe red berries and spices, as brilliant acidity lends vibrancy and saline-mineral tones add a salty flair. The 2018 has energy to burn, coming across as primary and wild, yet also refined. An herbal twang and grippy tannins collect toward the close. It leaves the palate classically dry, caked with an almost-chalky coating; however, it’s mouthwatering all the same. The contrasts here keep you guessing with each tilt of the glass, a mix of sheer drinkability and noble stature. This is a gorgeous glass of Sangiovese. The Granomelo hails from Ficomontanino’s Melogranino vineyard. It goes through spontaneous fermentation with a two-month maceration, and then refines completely in concrete. I’ll be following this wine closely in the vintages to come. A selection of inspired Tuscan wines arrived from Maria Sole at Ficomontanino. This is a 12-hectare property located in the extreme southeast of Tuscany, bordering Umbria and Lazio. In fact, geographically speaking, the climate here is closer to northern Lazio and mountainous Umbria than it is to Tuscany. The vineyards were originally planted by Maria Sole's grandfather in the 1960s, yet winemaking was more of a hobby for him. She took the reins of the family farm from her father after being bitten by the wine bug and was inspired by the likes of Tenute Dettori in Sardinia. Her education at Slow Food’s University of Culinary Arts at Pollenzo is also a huge influence in the winemaking here, choosing natural practices in the vineyards, spontaneous fermentations, long macerations, neutral aging vessels, no fining or filtration, and a minimum use of sulfur. In the end, Maria Sole really seems to be onto something, delivering a transparent and honest representation of terroir." 93 Points, Eric Guido, Vinous

Scopetone Brunello di Montalcino 2016, 0.75L
Sangiovese from Brunello di Montalcino, Tuscany
"The 2016 Brunello di Montalcino dazzles with a display of sour cherries, sage and clove with hints of cedar, licorice and flowery undergrowth. The balance here is spot-on, as silky textures give way to ripe red berries offset by tactile minerals, sour citrus and brisk acids which add lift and cooling freshness. Its tannins mount steadily toward the close in a classically dry and structured expression under an air of inner florals. What a beautifully pure expression of Sangiovese." 93 Points Eric Guido, Vinous
"Mid ruby. Lots of concentration and complexity. Racy acidity embedded in a layer of ripe fruit. Gorgeous interplay of energetic, concentrated fruit and bags of grainy tannins. Lots of depth while maintaining a medium-bodied weight throughout." 18/20 Points Walter Speller, JancisRobinson.com

Tameran Vijariego Gran Canaria Blanco 2020, 0.75L
Vijariego Blanco from Gran Canaria, Canarias
"Vijariego Blanco, also known as Diego, is thought to have been introduced in the Canaries from Andalucía and is not a mutation of Vijariego. There are multiple spellings, most notably Vijariego and Vijiriego, even Bujariego in La Palma, but this name is not allowed anymore. It’s a grape with high acidity and lowish alcohol, so it’s often used for sparkling wines. The 2020 Vijariego Blanco is only 11.2% alcohol with a low pH of 3.14 and notable acidity, 7.5 grams (measured in tartaric acid per liter), so it's a light and sharp wine true to the variety. It fermented with indigenous yeasts in 500-liter oak barrels, where it matured with lees for 10 months. It's floral and vibrant, the latest-ripening grape here, with more freshness. It's a wine that should develop nicely in bottle. This is a little shy compared with its siblings, but it's a wine that will gain with time in bottle. 1,320 bottles were filled in June 2021." 93 Luis Gutiérrez, Wine Advocate

Vinedos del Jorco Las Enebradas Navalgordo 2017, 0.75L
Grenache from Paraje del Jorco, Castilla y León
"I was really looking forward to the 2017 Las Enebradas, because the first vintage, 2016, was the revelation of my last review of the zone of Gredos. I was quite surprised because the profile is very different: the wine has a lot more color and up to 2% more alcohol. Nacho Jiménez, one of the partners, explained that the profile of the 2016 vintage was exceptional and hard to replicate, as yields were higher and it rained just before they picked the grapes, so the wine is a lot lighter. 2017 was very different, a lot warmer and with lower yields, and the grapes delivered a concentrated juice with a lot more color, tannin and alcohol. It has a more Mediterranean profile, more in line with the rest of the wines. This fermented with 50% full clusters and temperature control and matured in one 500-liter oak barrel. Despite the higher ripeness and the headier character, the wines from Navatalgordo have a different texture and fine thread, the finesse of a cooler place and sandy soils at higher altitude (even if the vines are south-facing here), and you see it when tasting this next to the wines from Cebreros. It's more elegant and fresher. 570 bottles were filled in August 2019." 93 Luis Gutiérrez, Wine Advocate

Valdesil Pezas da Portela Godello 2018, 0.75L
Godello from Valdeorras, Galicia
"Pale, green-tinged yellow. Fresh pear, white peach and orange zest on the nose, with honeysuckle and mineral notes adding lift. Bright and sharply focused in the mouth, offering incisive citrus and orchard fruit flavors complemented by suggestions of fennel and quinine. Smoothly melds power and vivacity and finishes very long and nervy, showing outstanding clarity and minerally persistence. (Drink between 2021-2027)" 93 Josh Raynolds, Vinous
"The barrel-fermented Godello 2018 Pezas Da Portela has a more golden color and a creamy nose, spicy and somehow flinty, not oaky. It fermented and matured with lees and bâtonnage in French barriques for six months. The palate reveals complex flavors; it's nuanced with a mixture of mineral and gunpowder-like notes with notions of tangerine peel, quince paste and dried flowers, with yellow rather than white fruit. This comes from a myriad of small plots in the village of Portela, where the family Prada Gayoso originated. Serious, seamless and expressive Godello. 8,000 bottles produced. It rested in tank for one year before it was bottled in February 2020. I had not tasted the wines from Valdesil for a while, as they seemed to have vanished into thin air." 92+ Luis Gutiérrez, Wine Advocate

Outward Wines Cabernet Sauvignon Massa Vineyard 2021, 0.75L
Cabernet Sauvignon from Carmel Valley, California
The 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon Massa Vineyard comes from old vines planted in 1968 in the Carmel Valley near the coast. "For us, the best expressions are varietally distinct, and we wanted to pay homage to that older style in California," say Natalie Siddique and Ryan Pace, the newly married couple behind Outward, founded in 2016. Grapes were destemmed and spent 30 days on skins with delicate pour-overs done "by hand with a pitcher," they quip—their production is still tiny, with about 1,100 cases made in 2021. The Massa Cabernet has a medium ruby-purple color and bright aromas of red and black currants, blueberries, sage, aniseed and tobacco leaves. The medium-bodied palate is delicately intense with perfumed fruit and savory accents. It has an approachable, lightly chalky frame, energetic acidity calling you in for another sip and a long, floral finish. It's an elegant, easy-to-drink style to enjoy over the next 3-5 years. Only 144 cases were made. 93 Points, Erin Brooks, Wine Advocate

Scar of the Sea Vino de los Ranchos Pinot Noir 2021, 0.75L
Pinot Noir from Santa Maria Valley, California
"The 2021 Pinot Noir Vino de Los Ranchos is a very pretty, vibrant Pinot Noir. Dark red fruit, lavender, rose petal, spice and leather give the 2021 its beguiling, mysterious personality. There's a lot of wine here, but the 2021 needs time in bottle to be at its best. Today, the youthful tannins are pretty imposing. I was deeply impressed with this set of wines from Scar of the Sea. Mikey and Gina Giugni source fruit from a number of top vineyards in Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo, many of them old-vine sites, for this range of wines. It’s hard to know where to start, but I especially liked the 2021 Alicante Bouschet Galleano Ranch and 2021 Syrah Bassi Vineyard, both of which show how compelling this vintage is shaping up to be. The Scar of the Sea wines are done with minimal handling and offer notable transparency, not to mention tons of character." 93 Antonio Galloni, Vinous

Morgen Long Chardonnay Seven Springs Vineyard 2020, 0.75L
Chardonnay from Eola-Amity Hills, Oregon
"The 2020 vintage of Seven Springs Vineyard chardonnay from Morgen Long was raised in sixty percent new oak this year (new Damy five hundred liter puncheon) and forty percent in a one wine three hundred and fifty liter cask. The wines comes in at 13.2 percent this year, with ninety cases produced. It offers up a beautifully gentle oak shading in its bouquet of pear, almond, chalky soil tones, chamomile, spring flowers and vanillin oak. On the palate the wine is bright, full-bodied, focused and rock solid at the core, with lovely mineral drive and grip, zesty acids and lovely length and grip on the complex and very nicely balanced finish. This is a new oaky example of chardonnay that is also long on soil signature. Fine juice." 92+ John Gilman, View from the Cellar
"I tasted the grey label version of the 2020 Chardonnay Seven Springs, which opens with flinty reduction, along with savory herbs of chive, green apple, and lemon verbena. The palate is fresh with chalky texture, lemon curd, white flowers, baking spice, and a hint vanilla bean on the back end. Seth Morgen Long began making his wines in 2014 and is exclusively dedicated to the production of Willamette Valley Chardonnay. Originally from North Carolina, his family relocated to the Willamette Valley when he was nine. Having worked for Domaine de Montille in 2012 and 2013, he took their model for winemaking and returned to the Willamette Valley. Seth had been making his wines in the Lingua Franca facilities until this year, when they sold to Constellation. He is currently operating out of Michael Etzel’s space down the road from Beaux Freres. His style continues to evolve, although the wines remain about purity and focus, and they are well worth seeking out." 93 Audrey Frick, JebDunnuck.com
