Niepoort Quinta de Baixo Poeirinho 2016, 0.75L
Baga from Cantanhede, Bairrada
"The 2016 Poeirinho is a Baga aged for 20 months in old 2,000-liter fuders. It comes in at 12% alcohol. This seems better balanced and more refined than the 2015—but perhaps not as energetic. For the moment, I prefer the 2015, granting that they are not side by side. Lighter styled, crisp and transparent, this is a wine that is all about Baga characteristics. It adds that silky texture, refinement, acidity and tannins. It took a while for the pure power to come out, but there is plenty. The tannins are harder than you think at first—although not impossibly astringent. This is certainly beautiful, but it needs some time to evolve and develop, even if you can approach it fairly young. Let's be a little conservative and start here. This will have a long life ahead and plenty of time to evolve." 94 Points, Mark Squires, Wine Advocate

Dirk Niepoort & Raúl Pérez Douro Tinto Ultreia 2014, 0.75L
Touriga Franca / Tinta Amarela / Tinta Roriz from Douro, Douro
"Drawn in 2008 to the Douro Valley as much by its terroir similarity to the Ribeira Sacra as by its geographical proximity to Spain’s northwest, Raúl Pérez linked up with Dirk Niepoort, one of the region’s leading lights. Niepoort provided the parcels, but the winemaking is all Raúl, and it’s glorious. He’s produced this wine a handful of times since then, but’s it’s never been seen stateside—until now.
This wine hails from two complementary sites in distinct parts of the Douro, one in the Vale do Tedo and the other in the Vale de Covas. Varietal percentages are impossible to determine as it’s an old-vine field blend, but it’s primarily Touriga Franca, Tinta Amarela and Tinta Roriz. It’s fermented spontaneously on the stems in old upright wooden vat and raised for a year in used French barriques."
