93 NM. ". . . the 1976 Musigny Vieilles Vignes Grand Cru showed very well when encountered in Burgundy. Showing commensurate bricking on the rim for its age, it has a sense of warmth on the nose (vestiges of that mercilessly hot summer), with warm bricks/terracotta intermingling with decayed red fruit, tobacco and undergrowth. The palate was fresher than I expected and displayed more finesse than some of the more lauded wines of the 1980s. I liked the balance and harmony on display, the roundness on the sensual, old-fashioned but engaging finish. It is simply a lovely old Musigny. Tasted June 2017."
