"[ from a .12 ha parcel of vines on the Chassagne side planted in 1926 and abutting one of the parcels owned by the Domaine de la Romanée-Conti] Very mild reduction does not really detract from the otherwise fresh, pretty and complex spiced pear and wonderfully broad range of white floral aromas. It's immediately clear from the big-bodied flavors that there is another dimension present here relative to the 1ers as there is fine power, concentration and outstanding depth on the hugely long finish. This is a seriously impressive Bùtard and while it should easily improve for up to a decade, there is so much extract that with 30 minutes of air, it could actually be enjoyed young."

Chassagne-Montrachet is a village AOC in Burgundy's Cote de Beaune with numerous Premier Crus, renowned above all for rich, nutty, mineral Chardonnay whites, though it also makes firm Pinot Noir reds.
2009 in Burgundy was warm and sunny, producing ripe, rich and generous reds of hedonistic charm and supple tannins; the whites are opulent but can lack acidity, making them best enjoyed relatively young.
The world's most versatile white grape, producing everything from steely Chablis to rich, oaked whites. Its neutrality makes it a mirror of terroir and winemaking, and the foundation of white Burgundy and Champagne.
