"Here is one of the great surprises of the vintage. Trapet seems to truly be waking up and returning to the form that rightly made this one of the great, great domaines in Burgundy up through the 1960s. This is a great bottle of Chapelle (one of the most elegant and perfumed of the Gevrey grand crus), with a cool and classy nose of black cherry, grilled meats, cocoa powder, orange rind, herb tones, minerals, violets and a judicious framing of vanillin oak. Full, poised and classy on the palate, with a great core of fruit, perfect balance, great class, and a long, complex and moderately-tannic finish. If this is indicative of the quality of the whole range in 1996, this is most assuredly a domaine to seek out. A great wine in the making."
