Impressive is the opaque purple-colored 2000 Giusto dei Notri, a blend of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, and 5% Cabernet Franc aged 20 months in 100% new French oak before being bottled without filtration. It requires decanting to strut its stuff, but it is phenomenally rich with notes of blackberries, creosote, truffles, vanilla, and licorice presented in a full-bodied, powerful, concentrated style with remarkable precision and harmony for a wine of such massive intensity and richness. The finish lasts for 40-45 seconds.

Italy grows more indigenous grape varieties than any other country and produces wine in all 20 of its regions. From Piedmont's Nebbiolo to Tuscany's Sangiovese, its finest wines pair structure and bright acidity with a strong sense of place.
The heartland of Sangiovese, producing Chianti Classico, Brunello di Montalcino and the Cabernet-influenced 'Super Tuscans' of the coast. Its wines balance bright acidity, savory structure and cellar-worthiness.
