"The Chapelle-Chambertin is permitted a slightly longer vinification at slightly lower temperatures than the other re wines. It is the first to eb picked and the last to be decanted out of the fermentation vats. It has paid dividends this year. The colour offers a wealth of exuberant deep purple. The nose too is joyous, making an immediate statement of ripe but delightful deep raspberry and succulent strawberry fruit. There is a wealth of fruit right across the palate then this same strong mineral acidity to finish. The fruit seems to darken (in a good way) in the glass. This is going to be pretty special." |

Opening in the glass with aromas of cherries, strawberries and raspberries mingled with peonies and licorice, Ponsot's 2019 Chapelle-Chambertin Grand Cru is full-bodied, layered and velvety, with a broad attack that segues into a deep, concentrated mid-palate framed by ripe tannins and lively acids. This has turned out very well indeed. 95 points, William Kelley, Wine Advocate
