"The 2019 Vézelay Galerne is lovely, unwinding in the glass with scents of citrus zest, pastry cream and white flowers. Medium-bodied, taut and fleshy, with tangy acids and chalky grip, it will enjoy a longer future . . . . Catherine Montanet's son Valentin presides over Domaine Montanet-Thoden, as he does Domaine Cadette and La Soeur Cadette. Methods here are much the same as they are there, which is to say: organic farming, hand harvesting and gentle winemaking with minimal sulfur dioxide, producing charming, succulent wines that are a reference point for their appellations." |
