"The 2021 Pinot Noir Vino de Los Ranchos is a very pretty, vibrant Pinot Noir. Dark red fruit, lavender, rose petal, spice and leather give the 2021 its beguiling, mysterious personality. There's a lot of wine here, but the 2021 needs time in bottle to be at its best. Today, the youthful tannins are pretty imposing. I was deeply impressed with this set of wines from Scar of the Sea. Mikey and Gina Giugni source fruit from a number of top vineyards in Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo, many of them old-vine sites, for this range of wines. It’s hard to know where to start, but I especially liked the 2021 Alicante Bouschet Galleano Ranch and 2021 Syrah Bassi Vineyard, both of which show how compelling this vintage is shaping up to be.
