"In contrast, I have bought more Auxey-Duresses rouge from the Coche family than any other wine from them and have always been delighted with how beautifully this wine ages in my cellar. The 2017 is another stellar bottle in the making, offering up a complex bouquet of black cherries, plums, chocolate, chalky soil tones, woodsmoke, gamebird and a touch of new wood. On the palate the wine is pure, full-bodied and already starting to get a bit velvety on the attack, with a lovely core of fruit, suave tannins and lovely focus and grip on the complex and perfectly balanced finish. Most young vintages of Coche Auxey are quite red fruity in personality, but the 2017 is more black fruity than customary, though no less refined and potentially elegant! Fine, fine juice." |
