Jean-Louis Chave Sélection Côtes-du-Rhône Mon Coeur 2021, 0.75L
Syrah / Grenache / Mourvèdre from Côtes du Rhône, Rhône
"A year-in, year-out smoking value as well as a great bottle of wine, the 2021 Côtes du Rhône Mon Coeur checks in as equal parts Grenache and Syrah brought up in neutral oak. Its vivid ruby hue is followed by a medium-bodied, elegant, lively red offering pretty red and black berry fruits, some spring flowers, peppery herbs, and gamey nuances, fine tannins, and nicely integrated acidity. Coming from a cooler year, it still brings plenty of richness and depth and is well worth seeking out." 91 Jeb Dunnuck, JebDunnuck.com, May 2023

Domaine de la Mordoree Tavel La Reine des Bois 2022, 0.75L
Grenache / Syrah / Cinsault/ Clairette / from Tavel, Rhône
“A blend of 60% Grenache, 20% Syrah, 10% Cinsault and 10% Clairette, the 2022 Tavel La Reine des Bois is a touch darker in hue than its stablemate, the La Dame Rousse, but it's still not among the darkest of Tavels in the glass. That's perfectly okay, as the aromas and flavors are textbook for the appellation: crushed stone, flowering garrigue, ripe cherries and mouthwatering strawberries, all capped off by refreshing citrus-zest notes on the lengthy finish. Full-bodied and full-flavored, it's one of the candidates for top Tavel this year.” 93 Joe Czerwinski, Wine Advocate

Ermitage du Pic St. Loup Rosé 2022, 0.75L
Syrah / Mourvèdre / Grenache / Cinsault from Pic Saint Loup, Languedoc Roussillon
“The 2022 Rosé opens with white cherries, strawberries and fresh mint. It’s softly textured with a balanced inner sweetness. The 2022 displays violet-tinged wild berries and liquid stone nuances. This finishes potent and with decent length. A lump of residual acidity maintains a lovely freshness.” 90 Eric Guido, Vinous.com, May 2023
"This impeccably made rosé from the raw and rustic landscape of the Languedoc requires a moment to open up, eventually releasing all the brambly qualities of the sunbaked shrubs and herbs that seem to infuse its beautifully plump fruit. It is an irresistibly charming, delightfully refreshing wine." Importer Notes

Clos Mogador 2020, 0.75L
Grenache / Carignan / Syrah / Cabernet Sauvignon from Priorat, Catalunya
"The wine is more tannic and ... it matured exclusively in 2,000-liter oak foudre, and the impact of the wood is milder. A very good result, it's powerful but has good balance. The vintage is more tannic ..." 97 Luis Guiterrez, Wine Advocate
"Founded in 1979, the 20ha Clos Mogador lies at 350m altitude , surrounded by mountains up to 1,200m. The vines here grow on slate soils and the 2020 wine is a blend of 45% Garnacha, 29% Cariñena, 16% Syrah and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, fermented using 30% whole bunches and indigenous yeasts. The wine was aged entirely in 2,000L French oak foudres for 18 months before bottling. Beth Willard: A really dark and intense wine that speaks of the region. High-toned, perfumed notes and raspberry on the nose. Oak is well integrated. Big and rich, but with underlying elegance. Polished and serious. Diana Rollan: Dense and powerful nose with dark fruit, and notes of plum, black cherry, blueberries, sandalwood and dried herbs. Big and bold with pronounced tannins, but round and textured. David Williams: Complex nose with notes of blood orange, black cherry and Mediterranean herbs. Intensity but also drive on the palate; great mineral acidity, freshness." 95 Decanter Magazine

"Vibrant black cherries, mulberries, peppery herbs, and spice are just some of the nuances in the 2020 Châteauneuf Du Pape, an utterly classic Châteauneuf du Pape that's medium to full-bodied, has the vintage's seamless profile, ultra-fine tannins, and a great finish. This beautiful, quintessential effort can be enjoyed any time over the coming 15 years or more. Louis Barruol Côte Rôtie La Boisselee 2018, 0.75L
Syrah from Côte Rôtie, Rhône
“Sure, it has the violets and spice of great Côte Rôtie, but also a dense and delicious Syrah luxuriance you want to bite off and chew. After a recent tasting, I tried to order a few bottles from the estate for my personal cellar and was sadly denied. Very few bottles of this wine were made, and with demand so high, every last one has now shipped off to the USA. I envy all who can still find a few for the cellar!” Kermit Lynch Wine Merchant

Fabio Motta Le Gonnare Bolgheri 2018, 0.75L
Merlot / Syrah from Bolgheri, Tuscany
"Fabio Motta is one of the best performers in Bolgheri among the small producers of the next generation. Almost ready with his new winery, it represents a kind of garagiste in the appellation. He ferments all the wines with natural yeast and manages careful extraction and maceration. His original blend for Le Gonnare sees an addition of Syrah to complete the 85% of Merlot and is aged in 1/3 new French oak barriques. Intense and perfumed it shows kiwi peel and cedar wood aromas, loaded with restrained cassis and bitter orange flavour. The attack is dense and ripe with elegant texture and chewy tension on the finish." 95 Aldo Fiordelli, Decanter Magazine

Big Basin Vineyards Syrah Rattlesnake Rock 2016, 0.75L
Syrah from Santa Cruz Mountains, California
"The 2016 Syrah Rattlesnake Rock is a powerful wine. Red fruit, iron, chalk, white pepper, game and incisive tannins give the 2016 a real feeling of drive that distinguishes it in the range. This is an especially mineral-driven, savory, taut Syrah, with all the elements in the right place. Dried herbs, licorice and crushed flowers add aromatic intrigue. It will be interesting to see if the 2016 gains a bit more volume in bottle. It is such a promising wine. The Côte-Rôtie selection Syrah from John Alban works so well here." 94 Antonio Galloni, Vinous
"From the home estate in the Santa Cruz Moutains, the 2016 Syrah Rattlesnake Rock is a firm, mineral-laced, yet concentrated and textured Syrah that's going to benefit from bottle age. Red and black fruits, spiced meat, bacon fat, and dried flower notes are just some of its nuances. A concentrated, classic mountain Syrah, it needs 2-3 years of bottle age and will cruise . . ." 94+ Jeb Dunnuck
"The 2016 Rattlesnake Rock bottling of syrah from Big Basin is one of their estate vineyard bottlings, as these vines were planted in 2000 in this windy parcel that sits between thirteen hundred and fourteen hundred feet above sea level. The 2016 version includes one-third whole clusters, was fermented with indigenous yeasts and aged for twenty-one months in used, three hundred liter barrels. The cépages here includes two percent of viognier that was co-fermented with the syrah. The wine comes in at 13.9 percent octane and offers up a deep and properly reserved bouquet of cassis, black raspberry, grilled meats, pepper, a touch of black olive, fine stony soil tones and a smoky topnote. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, focused and rock solid at the core, with a superb core of fruit, firm, ripe tannins and outstanding balance and grip on the long, nascently complex and very, very promising finish. There is a strong vein of iron in the soils here and this really comes across on the backend here. This is outstanding syrah in the making, with plenty of structure and outstanding depth of fruit. Think of old school Hermitage with a different, stony soil signature." 93 John Gilman, View From The Cellar

Syrah from Sta. Rita Hills, California
"The Black Sheep Finds wine project started in 2005 making 2021 the sixteenth vintage of Hocus Pocus Syrah (there was no 2020 Hocus Pocus!). It is a wonderful blend of cooler climate vineyards and sourced entirely from Sta. Rita Hills in 2021. Aged for 8 months in neutral French oak barrels, alcohol 14%, 125 cases produced." Piedrasassi Syrah Rim Rock Vineyard 2019, 0.75L
Syrah from Arroyo Grande Valley, California
"The 2019 Syrah Rim Rock Vineyard is compelling, as this wine so often is. Bright acids and a touch of whole cluster savoriness lend energy to this decidedly taut, nervy coastal Syrah. Blood orange, exotic spice, lavender, black pepper and grilled herbs build into the long, articulate finish. (Drink between 2022-2031)"94 Points, Antonio Galloni, Vinous

Shafer Syrah Relentless 2018, 0.75L
Syrah from Napa Valley, California
"A blend of 94% Syrah and 6% Petite Sirah, the 2018 Relentless looks to be just about sensational, offering a dense purple color as well as rich, loaded notes of blackberries, currants, smoked meats, peppery spice, and violets. Reminding me of a great Cornas on steroids with its gamy, exotic character paired with beautiful richness, it has fabulous purity, ripe, polished tannins, and a great finish. This will undoubtedly be a great vintage for this cuvée, and my money is on it being one of the best yet." 96-98 Points, Jeb Dunnuck, JebDunnuck.com

Domaine de La Vieille Julienne Chateauneuf-du-Pape Réservé 2019, 0.75L
Grenache / Syrah / Cinsault / Counoise from Chateauneuf du Pape, Rhône
"Lastly, the 2019 Châteauneuf Du Pape Reserve is another magical wine, and I might have rated this cuvée a perfect score more than any other Southern Rhône. Unquestionably in the same realm as the 2017, 2016, 2010, 2005, 2003, and 2001, it has an incredible, full-bodied, massive style that somehow stays perfectly balanced, with flawless integration of its fruit, tannins, acidity, and alcohol. Lots of red, blue, and black fruits, loamy earth, Asian spice, licorice, and violet nuances emerge from the glass, and it hits the palate with full-bodied richness, building yet polished tannins, and a great, great finish. It’s a sexier, more opulent wine than the Les Hauts-Lieux release yet has the same perfect tannins that are so rare to find in the vintage. This required at least 4-5 years of bottle age and will drink brilliantly for 20-25+ years." 100 Points, Jeb Dunnuck, JebDunnuck.com

Auguste Clape Cornas Renaissance 2019, 0.75L
Syrah from Cornas, Rhône
"Outer quote mark Big smoke and black-pepper nose with some dried Mediterranean herbs. Bold and seriously structured, the tannins keeping the alcohol well in the background, this is a weighty Cornas with quite soft acidity that triumphs over what could be limiting factors, thanks to the beauty of the damson-plum and wild-berry fruit. Drink or hold." 94 James Suckling, JamesSuckling.com, Mar 2022

Charles Smith Syrah Stoneridge Vineyard Royal City 2015, 0.75L
Syrah from Columbia Valley, Washington
"Another magical Syrah is the 2015 Syrah Royal City. It shows a more finesse-driven (I wrote Burgundian in my notes), ethereal style as well as a beautiful perfume of kirsch and black cherry liqueur intermixed with notes of crushed flowers, ground herbs, pepper, and dried earth. Full-bodied, seamless, and ultra-fine on the palate, it has no hard edges and flawless balance, all making for an incredibly thrilling Syrah that’s already a joy to drink. Nevertheless, this cuvée will evolve gracefully and keep for 10-15 years." 98 Points, Jeb Dunnuck, JebDunnuck.com

Jean-Claude Marsanne Syrah Mauve 2019, 0.75L

Jean-Claude Marsanne Saint-Joseph 2018, 0.75L
Syrah from St. Joseph, Rhône
"Just a stone's throw from JL Chave and Gonon, this little-known winegrower delivers high-level Syrah at a price that is still angelic, a superb discovery...Deep colour with purple tints. Expressive nose of black fruits, notes of spices of cacao, mineral touch. In the mouth, a traditional, generous, powerful but balanced wine. We find the aromatic personality of the appellation on a beautiful length."

Samuel Louis Smith Syrah Sandstone Terrace 2019, 0.75L
Syrah from Santa Cruz Mountains, California
"A blend of fruit from the Gali and Zayante vineyards, this is a firmly built Syrah, starting with aromas of freshly smashed elderberry and boysenberry as well as dried meat, tar and cracked peppercorn. There is a taut tension to the sip, where precise black raspberry and rose-petal flavors pair up." 93 Points Matt Kettmann, Wine Enthusiast

Chanin Syrah Schock Family Vineyard 2018, 0.75L
Syrah from Santa Barbara County, California
"This is a cooler-climate Syrah done with the light touch of a Pinot Noir master. The nose is extremely peppery, reminiscent of a tour through a Tellicherry peppercorn factory, yet with tart cranberry, rust and soil elements as well. The palate is immensely grippy with more white pepper as well as charcoal and brisk red-fruit flavors. It will also cellar very well." 95 Points Matt Kettmann, Wine Enthusiast
"The 2018 Syrah Schock Family Vineyard is Gavin Chanin's first Syrah, and it is fabulous. Deep and rich, but not at all heavy, the 2018 has so much to offer. Readers will have to be patient, as the 2018 is an embryonic wine at this stage. What comes across is the wine's exceptional balance and harmony. Time will be needed for Syrah aromatics to emerge." 94 Points Antonio Galloni, Vinous

Arnot-Roberts Syrah Clary Ranch 2017, 0.75L
Syrah from Sonoma Coast, California
"The 2017 Syrah Clary Ranch is striking. Deep and resonant on the palate, the 2017 has so much to say. Some of the angular edges and intense savoriness the Clary Ranch can show have been soften by the intense heat of the year. Silky, fine tannins wrap around a core of dark cherry, plum, lavender, spice and pepper. A Syrah of power and structural intensity, the Clary Ranch is incredibly distinctive, and that is in a lineup in which many of the wines are exceptional. Two thousand-seventeen is a superb vintage for the Clary Ranch Syrah." 96 Points Antonio Galloni, Vinous

Clos Saint-Joseph Côtes de Provence Syrah 2017, 0.75L
Syrah from Côtes de Provence, Provence
"While the name of the domaine honors Roch’s great-grandfather, it also brings to mind the great northern Rhône appellation Saint-Joseph. The association with fine cool-climate Syrah is not unwarranted: the grape shows a special affinity to the extreme environment of this less-traveled side of Provence, so much that Roch chose to spotlight it with a special cuvée. Thick, dense, chewy tannins frame this brawny red jam-packed with spice and savory goodness. It belongs in your cellar somewhere between the Bandols and the Hermitages." Clos Saint-Joseph I.G.P. Méditerranée Rouge 2017, 0.75L
Syrah / Grenache / Mourvèdre / Cabernet Sauvignon from Méditérranée, Provence
"In 2017, a hail storm destroyed much of Clos Saint Joseph’s red grapes. Half of this bottling comes from grapes from Clos Saint Joseph’s vines. The other half comes from donations of grapes from a large group of Provence’s top growers (an organization called Rouge Provence, intended to create solidarity among growers and promote Provence’s historic red wines) including Domaine Tempier, Domaine Hauvette, and Domaine de la Tour du Bon. All these grapes come from different AOCs (Bandol, Coteaux de Baux, Coteaux d’Aix, Coteaux Varois, Côtes de Provence), which is why the wine’s designation is I.G.P Méditerranée instead of Côtes de Provence."
