Joseph Colin Puligny-Montrachet Le Trezin 2020, 0.75L
Chardonnay from Puligny Montrachet, Burgundy
"Beautifully layered aromas of smoked green apple, acacia and plenty of citrus elements give way to equally good volume and even more minerality on the impressively long and unusually powerful flavors that possess outstanding depth and persistence for a villages-level wine. This is built on its minerality though ultimately, it's the intricate and finely wrought balance that makes this such a standout. If you can find it, don't hesitate. *Outstanding, Top Value!*" 92 Allen Meadows, Burghound.com, June 2022

Hanzell Chardonnay 2017, 0.75L
Chardonnay from Sonoma Valley, California
"The 2017 Chardonnay is pliant and expressive, yet very much in the understated style that is such a Hanzell signature. Orange peel, tangerine, butter, hazelnut and light honeyed notes are all laced together in a sublime, nuanced Chardonnay that hits all the right notes. The counterpoint of textural depth and energy is compelling. (Drink between 2020-2027)" 92, Antonio Galloni, Vinous.com

Bessin-Tremblay Chablis 2020, 0.75L
Chardonnay from Chablis, Burgundy
"Not surprisingly, having only been in bottle for one week, the 2020 Chablis AC from Domaine Bessin is a little shaken up post-bottling, but it is also abundantly clear that there is excellent depth and transparency here, coupled to lovely acidity and plenty of length and grip. Based on how well the wines that were still in tank showed, I have zero doubt that this wine too will deliver lovely precision and focus as well, once it has recovered from the mise. The bouquet offers up scents of apple, pear, chalky soil tones, a touch of citrus peel and a topnote of dried flowers. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and nicely balanced, with excellent material at the core, fine mineral undertow, zesty acids and impressive length and grip. The focus will snap back here once it recovers from the bottling and will be a lovely bottle of AC. (Drink between 2022-2040)" 90-91, John Gillman, View from the Cellar
"An overtly floral nose speak of ocean breeze, citrus and an interesting hint of crushed mint leaf. The delicious, fleshy and relatively forward medium-weight flavors possess an appealing texture along with a lingering finish that is brightened by refreshing hints of acid tang and bitter lemon. A quality villages that should drink well young." 89, Allen Meadows, Burghound

Evening Land Chardonnay Seven Springs Vineyard Summum 2019, 0.75L
Chardonnay from Eola-Amity Hills, Oregon
"This one of the top sites for Chardonnay in Oregon. The grapes are pressed as whole clusters and run directly into used casks for fermentation on native yeasts. The wine does full malolactic conversion, but it neither stirred nor racked during aging. The result has a lovely ripe apple and quince fruit with a suggestion of chamomile. The texture is creamy and rich, but there is no fat, and the overall impression is very Burgundian. Superb length and great aging potential make this is an imposing wine. Drinking Window 2021 - 2031." 95 Charles Curtis MW, Decanter Magazine

Crystallum Chardonnay The Agnes 2018, 0.75L
Chardonnay from Walker Bay, South Africa
"The 2018 The Agnes comes from five vineyards in Hemel-en-Aarde and Overberg, aged in 228- and 500-liter barrels with 10% new oak. It has a discreet bouquet with subtle pressed flower and shale-like aromas that suggest this is a Chardonnay for cellaring. The palate is wonderfully poised, revealing hints of vanilla and coconut flakes on the entry, countered by a crisp line of acidity and a pleasing tautness on the finish. Excellent." 92 Neal Martin, Vinous.com Nov 2019
“It’s always a pleasure to meet with the indefatigable Peter-Allan Finlayson, whose wines at Crystallum I have been shoveling praise upon since his debut vintage …. [he] was on hand to guide me through his latest releases, although he admitted that he had forgotten to bring one of them. Probably had his mind on other things: the impending 2017 harvest and the fact that now he oversees not just Crystallum but Gabrielskloof, whose wines I have reviewed separately. Hopefully the reviews speak for themselves, merely consolidating everything that I have written before, principally that these are some of South Africa's finest Pinot Noirs and Chardonnays. Attesting to that was the fine performance of his wine when served against the likes of Domaine de la Romanée-Conti of J-L Trapet at a lunch in Cape Town just a few days earlier. I asked about recent developments at Crystallum, and Fin—as he is known in these parts—told me that he had recently bought a piece of his own land for Crystallum, located around two kilometers past Creation, therefore outside the Hemel-en-Aarde region. At the moment he is still buying fruit from growers, but this single hectare of Pinot Noir is a start to obtaining "dirt" that he can call his own. As usual, these wines are highly recommended, although quantities remain frustratingly small.” Neal Martin, Vinous.com 2015/2017

Walter Scott Chardonnay X-Novo Vineyard 2021, 0.75L
Chardonnay from Eola-Amity Hills, Oregon
"The 2021 Chardonnay X Novo is layered and lifted with a perfume of yellow orchard fruit, white flowers, and lemon verbena. The palate is pure, with ripe peach, lemon curd, and salty earth, and the texture is long and persistent, with great clarity. There is so much to love about this wine. Drink 2025-2035. Walter Scott was founded in 2008 by Erica Landon and her husband Ken Pahlow. Their first vintage was produced in 2009 out of Patricia Green Cellars, then at Evening Land, where Ken worked alongside Dominique Lafon. This clearly had an influence on the wines of Walter Scott, where they began producing Chardonnay in 2011. The next year they moved to their current winery space, which is located in front of the Justice Vineyard of the Eola-Amity Hills. They continue to raise the bar across their portfolio and are producing exceptional wines with purity and balance. The majority of these wines were tasted out of the barrel during my visit to the winery in July of 2022." 96-98 Audrey Frick, JebDunnuck.com

Francis Boulard Les Rachais Brut Nature 2013, 0.75L
Chardonnay from Champagne, Champagne
“The 2013 Brut Nature Les Rachais, 100% Chardonnay, is fabulous. It offers a beguiling mix of freshness, drive and power. Lemon confit, chamomile, dried flowers, mint and tangerine oil are some of the many notes that open with some coaxing. The 2013 could use another year or two in bottle, but it is already showing a good bit of mid-palate pliancy to match its natural energy. This really opens beautifully with air …. This is a terrific set of wines from Francis Boulard et Fille, which is now run by Francis’ daughter Delphine. Sustainable farming and low intervention winemaking yield Champagnes that are marked by delineation, focus and remarkable purity. The NV Extra Brut Blanc de Blancs Les Vieilles Vignes is a fine introduction for readers who are new to the wines, while the 2013 Brut Nature Les Rachais shows how special this vintage is in the right hands.” 95, Antonio Galloni, Vinous.com

Kistler Chardonnay Kistler Vineyard 2020, 0.75L
Chardonnay from Sonoma Valley, California
"The dry-farmed vines at Kistler Vineyard, about 40 years old now, produced a wine with loads of personality. The 2020 Chardonnay Kistler Vineyard unfolds its aromatic layers slowly, blossoming from flint to white peaches and lime peel, plus touches of dried sage, beeswax, almonds and pie crust. The palate is surprisingly powerful and concentrated, with hedonistic layers of stone fruit and candied citrus. Its aromas combine bright herbal, green apple and pear tones with underlying savory hints. The light-bodied palate is bright and fresh, yet offers a touch of anchoring creaminess that draws out the finish. Jean-Paul et Benoit Droin Chablis Valmur 2021, 0.75L
Chardonnay from Chablis, Burgundy
"From recently replanted vines totaling 1.04 ha; aged in 50% wood but only a small percentage is new. Once again moderate wood is present on the spicy aromas of green fruit and oyster shell-inflected nose. The rich, powerful and broad-shouldered flavors possess a borderline creamy mid-palate texture while exhibiting outstanding length on the sappy and saline finish. Very promising." 92-94 Allen Meadows, Burghound.com
"The 2021 Chablis Valmur Grand Cru offers more intensity and precision than the Vaudésir, the wood giving weight but beautifully assimilated, shucked oyster shells emerging. The palate is well balanced with a slightly honeyed opening, notes of lemon curd and orange pith, building nicely in the mouth towards a suave and lightly spiced finish. Superb." 92-94 Neal Martin, Vinous
"From a site of just over 1ha, Valmur is a colder site giving, as Droin says, a more masculine. Cool, closed on the nose, this will need a lot of time to open up. Oak is a little more apparent here, with very precise acidity. Very linear at the minute, a grand cru with a nose of white flowers, and a palate of great purity. This will need three to four years to open and will be hitting its stride in seven to eight." 93 Andy Howard MW, Decanter Magazine
"Pale lemon colour. An excellent bouquet, though as usual it is hard to know exactly where to place Valmur, some ripe apples, pears and the start of plums, rich and dense, with some marine notes at the back reminding us it is Chablis." 91-94 Jasper Morris MW, Inside Burgundy

Francine et Oliver Savary Chablis Vieilles Vignes 2021, 0.75L
Chardonnay from Chablis, Burgundy
"The Savarys have finally earned the recognition for their hard work, and are highly regarded in the appellation. The clay-limestone hillsides of the Kimmeridgian chain are excellent for growing dazzling, complex Chardonnay, also known here as “Beaunois.” However ideal the soil, Olivier brings his own brilliance to the table. The grapes from his vineyards throughout the Chablis appellation are blended into one fabulously complex village wine cuvée. He also bottles an extraordinary premier cru from Fourchaume, as well as a separate cuvée of old-vine fruit in heavy, wax-sealed bottles after élévage in demi-muids. These exquisite wines are quintessential Chablis, with unmistakable aromas of ancient crushed shells and a pronounced, racy mineral structure." Importer Notes

Pascal Doquet Arpege Blanc de Blancs Extra Brut NV, 0.75L

"There is pure chalk and freshness on the nose, with white and intense fruit . . . . On the palate, this is a very complex and highly mineral Champagne with great purity, finesse, elegance and character. There is a lot of mineral grip and great complexity. Pascal Doquet's organic Champagnes are of great precision and among the very best that the Côte des Blancs has to offer. Highly recommended." 93 Stephan Reinhardt, Wine Advocate
"The NV Blanc de Blancs Premier Cru Arpège is a gorgeous, sculpted Champagne built on precision. Crushed rocks, slate, green pears and citrus jump from the glass as this vibrant Champagne shows off its tense, pulsating personality. This is a gorgeous Champagne from Pascal Doquet." 92 Antonio Galloni, Vinous

Chardonnay from San Luis Obispo Coast, California
The 2021 Chardonnay Bassi Vineyard begins with flinty mineral tones that give way to preserved lemon, saline, acacia and beeswax. Armand Heitz Chevalier Montrachet 2020, 0.75L
Chardonnay from Puligny Montrachet, Burgundy
"This is aromatically quite similar to the Perrières with its nose of matchstick, mineral reduction and markedly floral scents that are trimmed in just enough wood to remark upon. The wonderfully refined and intense medium weight flavors possess only average density though the bone-dry, firm, youthfully austere and stony finish displays superb length. Note well that at least some patience will be necessary as this is presently very tightly wound." 94 Points, Allen Meadows, Burghound

Armand Meursault Les Perrieres 2020, 0.75L
Chardonnay from Meursault, Burgundy
"A touch of matchstick character is present on the aromas of mineral reduction, apple, citrus and a panoply of floral elements that include carnation and acacia. The super-sleek, intense and delicious middle weight flavors also possess a beguiling mid-palate texture while delivering excellent length on the relatively powerful, youthfully austere and impressively long finale. As lovely as this is, it's going to need to develop better depth over time." 92 Points, Allen Meadows, Burghound

"In the same style as Chevalier-Montrachet, it is an appellation whose personality reveals itself with time. These are old vines in good shape, on which we practice massal selection. This is a fine example of the durability of the work of the old vines, using simple methods. Today, we want to do more and more, but for how long?" Armand's Description

Bessin-Tremblay Chablis Vieilles Vignes 2020, 0.75L
Chardonnay from Chablis, Burgundy
"The 2020 Vieilles Vignes cuvée seems to have recovered a bit better from the bottling than the straight villages, but this may simply be a reflection of the superior depth and elegance of the old vines weighing in here. In any case, this is going to be an excellent bottle and a superb value this year, as it offers up a very promising bouquet of pear, tangerine, fruit blossoms, a lovely, almost flinty sense of chalky minerality and a hint of the beeswax to come with bottle age. On the palate the wine is bright, deep and full, with a lovely core, superb mineral drive and grip, bright tangy acids and a long, nascently complex finish. This is clearly going to be outstanding with a few years’ worth of bottle age. (Drink between 2024-2050)" 91-92 Points, John Gillman, View from the Cellar
This is aromatically similar to the regular cuvée but with even better Chablis character. However, there is notably better mid-palate density and power to the bigger-bodied flavors that exude outstanding intensity while coating the mouth on the beautifully long finale. While offering another dimension of depth, it comes at the price of being more structured. Highly recommended provided you have the patience to allow it at least a few years of keeping. 90 Points, Allen Meadows, Burghound

Bret Brothers La Soufrandiere Saint-Veran La Bonnode Cuvee Ovoide 2019, 0.75L
Chardonnay from Saint-Véran, Burgundy
"The 2019 Saint-Véran Climat 'La Bonnode' Ovoïde is aged in concrete eggs for 12 months and six months in stainless steel vat. I actually discern more complexity on the nose compared to the regular cuvée with touches of white chocolate mixing with the yellow plum and orange zest, less menthol here. The palate is more tensile, lively and very focused - it seems to have more animation and energy on the finish. This is just sublime." 93 Neal Martin, Vinous

Denis Jeandeau Vire-Clesse 2017, 0.75L
Chardonnay from Viré-Clessé, Burgundy
"Aromas of citrus blossom, fresh peach, pears and warm pastry introduce Jeandeau's 2017 Viré-Clessé, a medium to full-bodied, lively and precise wine that's elegantly textural but decidedly incisive by the standards of the appellation. With time in the glass, musky nuances emerge, hinting at the presence of some muscaté selections of Chardonnay; Jeandeau opts to raise these in tank, while the remaining two-thirds are vinified in barrel. Since he didn't produce his cuvée "Hors de Temps" this year, all the juice went into this, the regular cuvée." 92 William Kelley, Wine Advocate

Domaine Overnoy-Crinquand Cremant du Jura Brut NV, 0.75L
Chardonnay from Cotes du Jura, Jura
Crinquand uses fruit from the younger vines of Ploussard to make his sparkling wine. Although the vintage is not indicated on the label, Crinquand’s Crémant is vintage specific, all the juice being from a single harvest. The Crémant from this estate is bone-dry “brut zero” (no dosage). On the palate one senses a hint of tannin, a strong underlying earthiness … its “terroir” and an ebullient raspberry fruit in both flavor and on the nose. Certified Organic. Rosenthal Wine Merchant

Far Niente Chardonnay 2021, 0.75L
Chardonnay from Napa Valley, California
"Far Niente Chardonnay is a blend of superlative Napa Valley vineyards located in Coombsville, a cool growing region nestled in the rolling countryside and protected by the hills east of the city of Napa. Coombsville offers the characteristic climate of Carneros, with less wind, along with deeper, well-drained gravelly loam and volcanic ash soils. Guy Larmandier Cramant Grand Cru Brut Zero Blanc de Blancs NV, 0.75L
Chardonnay from Cramant, Champagne
"The non-dosage disgorgement of Larmandier’s Cramant is a different beast from the “classic” version: less rich but more driving; less broad but longer in the mouth. The total absence of any sense of sweetness allows the limestone to take center stage, and it presents in a more piercing and saline manner than the above wine. Despite its relative rigorousness and austerity, however, this is by no means a difficult wine. Rather, it will appeal to those who relish the sort of palpable, intense mineral character Champagne is capable of when made in such a straightforward fashion." Rosenthal Wine Merchant

Le Domaine d'Henri Chablis 1er Cru L'Homme Mort Vieilles Vignes 2018, 0.75L

"The 2018 Chablis L’Homme Mort Vieilles Vignes 1er Cru was picked on September 12 and 13, and matured 72% in stainless steel and the remainder in 228- and 600-liter barrels of 2–4 years old. This has a complex and enticing bouquet of yellow stone fruit, apple peel and light stony scents. The palate is very well balanced with a slightly honeyed texture on the opening. Vivacious, with energy to spare toward the finish, this is a very fine "Dead Man" that should live on for another 10–15 years. Excellent." 92 Neal Martin, Vinous

Daniel-Etienne Defaix Chablis Vaillon 2009, 0.75L
Chardonnay from Chablis, Burgundy
"The 2009 Chablis 1er Cru Vaillon offers up aromas of waxy citrus, beeswax, fresh peach and dried white flowers, followed by a medium to full-bodied, ample and satiny palate with lively acids and a broad, expansive finish. Defaix's 2007 and 2008 Vaillon bottlings are still quite tight, but the 2009 is already wide open. On my most recent visit to the Defaix winery, I tasted with Paul-Etienne Defaix, the 15th generation of the family to perpetuate the domaine. Demand for the wines is high. The estate's 2010 premiers crus were bottled this year, with plans to release them once the 2009s, reviewed here, are sold out. While I knew Defaix practiced very long élevage, I confess I hadn't quite realized just how long, but a tour of the winery revealed tank after tank, full of Chablis patiently awaiting its moment in the limelight. Since my last visit, 2007 and 2008 have both come and gone, but I tried examples of both and found much to admire. The 2009s, on first encounter, are richer and more developed in style, as is to be expected of that warmer, more giving vintage." 92 Points, William Kelley, Wine Advocate

Thevenet & Fils Blanc de Blancs de Chardonnay Brut NV NV, 0.75L
Chardonnay from Serrières, Ardèche
"A delightful sparkling wine built exclusively from Chardonnay (younger vines of 20 years of age) harvested from parcels in the village of Serrieres on the border with Pierreclos. The vineyards are west facing and are planted to sandy soils. Only 6000 bottles are produced annually, a good portion of which come to the USA. Depending on vintage conditions, the malo-lactic fermentation is sometimes blocked in order to maintain the proper high level of acidity. The dosage is minimal so as to produce a bone-dry, brightly effervescent cuvée." Importer Notes

Sleek acidity continues through to the finish, with additional racy character provided by a streak of minerally saline and chalk, which gains momentum through the midpalate and rings out on the well-cut, lasting finish. "The 2018 Chablis Les Preuses Grand Cru brings together all the best elements of the house style. Brisk and inviting with terrific energy, the Preuses has so much to offer. Like the Vaillons Vieilles Vignes, the Preuses was vinified in wood, and yet it shows better oak integration and a greater sense of completeness. A kick of Preuses mineral and floral notes punctuate the finish."92-94 Points, Antonio Galloni, Vinous
There is very good Chablis character to the aromas of petrol, quinine, tidal pool and various white-fleshed fruit scents that are trimmed in noticeable if discreet wood toast. Morgen Long Chardonnay Seven Springs Vineyard 2020, 0.75L
Chardonnay from Eola-Amity Hills, Oregon
"The 2020 vintage of Seven Springs Vineyard chardonnay from Morgen Long was raised in sixty percent new oak this year (new Damy five hundred liter puncheon) and forty percent in a one wine three hundred and fifty liter cask. The wines comes in at 13.2 percent this year, with ninety cases produced. It offers up a beautifully gentle oak shading in its bouquet of pear, almond, chalky soil tones, chamomile, spring flowers and vanillin oak. On the palate the wine is bright, full-bodied, focused and rock solid at the core, with lovely mineral drive and grip, zesty acids and lovely length and grip on the complex and very nicely balanced finish. This is a new oaky example of chardonnay that is also long on soil signature. Fine juice." 92+ John Gilman, View from the Cellar
"I tasted the grey label version of the 2020 Chardonnay Seven Springs, which opens with flinty reduction, along with savory herbs of chive, green apple, and lemon verbena. The palate is fresh with chalky texture, lemon curd, white flowers, baking spice, and a hint vanilla bean on the back end. Seth Morgen Long began making his wines in 2014 and is exclusively dedicated to the production of Willamette Valley Chardonnay. Originally from North Carolina, his family relocated to the Willamette Valley when he was nine. Having worked for Domaine de Montille in 2012 and 2013, he took their model for winemaking and returned to the Willamette Valley. Seth had been making his wines in the Lingua Franca facilities until this year, when they sold to Constellation. He is currently operating out of Michael Etzel’s space down the road from Beaux Freres. Nutty, full-bodied and earthy, it shows a youthful grip around the edges of its otherwise lush, complex and generous richness, with a mineral-like quality of slate and salt on the finish." 94 Points, Virginia Boone, Wine Enthusiast

Domaine de Villaine Rully Blanc 1er Cru "Les Margotes" 2019, 0.75L
Chardonnay from Rully, Burgundy
"Moderately prominent wood can be found on the ripe and very spicy aromas of white fruit confit, orange peel, anise and exotic tea. There is again excellent volume and power to the larger-scaled flavors that brim with sappy dry extract before terminating in a caressing, stylish and complex finale. This intense mineral-driven effort is lovely and a wine that should amply reward mid-term cellaring." 92 Points, Allen Meadows, Burghound

Famille Savary Chablis 2020, 0.75L
Chardonnay from Chablis, Burgundy
Subtle and delicate nose opening on gleams of a true Chablis minerality. A bit of breathing confirms this limestony impression blending into notes of pear and apple where a delicate hint of fresh almond appears. The mouth makes you feel you are experiencing a richer, more intense personality where the complexity of the terroir is bringing some relief to the tasting. The limestone supports every second of the tasting and brings its unmistakeable profile until the very last perceivable notes on a beautiful finale. A mineral Chablis with intensity and freshness that truly ressembles what a great Chablis with a limestone terroir can and should offer. Producer Notes

Chateau Montelena Chardonnay 2019, 0.75L
Chardonnay from Napa Valley, California
"I remember standing at the press as the first squeeze from our first lot of Chardonnay in 2019 began to trickle into the pan…and thinking WOW. Even at 6am and at that stage – cold juice scarcely 2 hours removed from the vine – it was clear that the potential for an effusive, rich, complex wine was there. The excitement lasted scarcely 10 seconds before it was time to get to work; time to envision, time to make (irreversible) decisions, and time to act. Seeing the potential, the mosaic in our minds, is one thing. Being naturally curious and receptive to new, creative ideas is another. But it’s in the translation, the execution, and the eventual realization of what’s finally in the glass that’s the greatest challenge yet ultimately the most gratifying." Winemaker Notes

"The 2020 Chardonnay Vino de los Ranchos is a new cuvée from Scar of the Sea, from own-rooted vines planted in 1973 near Bien Nacido vineyard. Evening Land Chardonnay Seven Springs Vineyard 2019, 0.75L
Chardonnay from Eola-Amity Hills, Oregon
"Our Seven Springs Chardonnay is the backbone to all of the white wines that we make here at Evening Land Vineyards. Fruit for this estate wine comes from Burgundian clones rooted into a rockier section of our Seven Springs’ mid-slope, which we believe plays into the texture and final flavor profile of the wine. On the palate, flavors of yellow and green apples, white flower petals, lemon zest, cream, and hints of warm baking spice lead to a soft, palate-coating finish. For those skeptical of domestic Chardonnay, we promise that this satiny, terroir-reflective expression of the grape promises to please a variety of palates." Producer Notes, Evening Land Vineyards

Robert Moncuit Les Chetillons Grand Cru Blanc de Blanc Extra Brut 2015, 0.75L
Chardonnay from Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, Champagne
Robert Moncuit is a French family winery with over a century of history. It is located in Le Mesnil-sur-Auger, where Alex Monqui planted vines in 1889. The first cuvées of them were obtained by Robert, Alex's grandson, only in 1935. Since then, the estate has been producing exceptional sparkling wines that are famous all over the world. The volume of wines produced is limited and amounts to 60,000 liters per year. After the death of Robert Monqui in 1987, his children, Françoise and Pierre Amille, took over the management of the company. They create elite champagnes from grapes from an area of 8 hectares of the Grand Cru category, fully occupied by Chardonnay grapes. The vines are processed without the use of pesticides, the harvest is carried out manually, and each batch is vinified separately, after which the wines are collected in exclusive blends.

Domaine Testut Chablis Les Vaillons 2019, 0.75L
Chardonnay from Chablis, Burgundy
"The 2019 Chablis “Vaillons” from Cyril Testut is a lovely example of this fine vintage, offering up a ripe, minerally-infused and very precise bouquet of pear, tart orange, wet stone minerality, incipient notes of paraffin, straw, a hint of anise and a topnote of citrus peel. On the palate the wine is bright, full-bodied and complex, with a rock solid core of fruit, excellent mineral drive and grip, a fine girdle of acidity and a long, youthful and beautifully balanced finish. This is lovely, but deserves at least a couple of years in the cellar to unlock its secondary layers of complexity. Fine juice." 92 Points John Gilman, View from the Cellar

Anthill Farms Chardonnay Peugh Vineyard 2018, 0.75L

"The 2018 Chardonnay Peugh comes from a vineyard originally planted in 1887 and grafted to Chardonnay in 1944. It was made with 20% new Austrian oak and has bright notions of petrichor, lime peel, green herbs and green pineapple with honeyed notes in the background. The palate is medium-bodied and satiny, swelling with savory flavors that are refreshed by mineral accents and lively acidity, and it finishes very long. The dynamic dichotomy of brightness and savory bass tones is compelling and provides a hint of what this may be like with another five years in bottle." 94+ points Erin Brooks, The Wine Advocate

Louis Michel Chablis Montée de Tonnerre 2018, 0.75L
Chardonnay from Chablis, Burgundy
"Not surprisingly, the 2018 Montée de Tonnerre is one of the more structured premier crus in the cellars this year and it will want some bottle age to start to stir. The potential here is excellent, with the very pure and precise nose offering up scents of green apple, smoke, flinty minerality, citrus zest, spring flowers and a hint of the beeswax to come with bottle age. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and nascently complex, with an excellent core of fruit, fine transparency and grip, snappy acids and a long, soil-driven and vibrant finish. Enfield Wine Co. Chardonnay Citrine 2018, 0.75L
Chardonnay from California, California
"The 2018 Chardonnay “Citrine” bottling from Enfield Wine Company is composed from fruit from four different vineyards: Rorick Heritage, Heron Lake, Haynes and Brosseau Vineyard, with the average age of the vines fully forty years of age. While I do not have any specific information on its winemaking, it seems to have seen at least some of the blend fermented or raised in cement eggs. The bouquet is bright and classy, offering up scents of apple, lemon blossoms, a touch of lavender, a fine base of soil tones, citrus peel and a bit of beeswax in the upper register. On the palate the wine is bright, full-bodied and nicely soil-driven in personality, with a good core, fine focus and grip, zesty acids and a long, nascently complex and quite classy finish. This is a nicely cool fruit chardonnay at 12.9 percent octane, with plenty of personality and the structure to age very well indeed. Good juice in a nicely offbeat style that recalls early vintages of Chalone, with less new oak. 2020-2035." 91 Points John Gilman, View From the Cellar

"This is a blend of Vincent Laval’s south-facing premier cru vineyards in Cumières, just west of Epernay. Quite vinous in texture with no sweetness on the palate, the nose combines citrus, minerals and just a hint of toast. Quite dry on the palate, a year or two in bottle helps this wine to fill out and reach it’s full potential of expression. Ripe fruit is laced with scratchy mineral texture and long term persistence. Like precious few Champagnes, this is a very serious wine that will reward, year after year, any cellaring that it is accorded." Importer Notes
