Pedroni Lambrusco di Sorbara Rosato NV, 0.75L
Lambrusco from Lambrusco di Sorbara, Emilia Romagna

This particular wine is closer to a sparkling rosato, instead of the glass lambrusco which leans more to a sparkling red wine. Try it also with aged cheeses and pasta with ragù!

Tre Monti Thea Sangiovese di Romagna Superiore Riserva 2018, 0.75L
Sangiovese from Sangiovese di Romagna Superiore Riserva, Emilia Romagna

"The 2018 Sangiovese Superiore Riserva Thea really shows the potential of Romagna Sangiovese. This pulls you close to the glass with a dazzling bouquet of black cherries, mixed with licorice, dusty rose, cedar spice box and hints of cocoa. There’s an undeniable elegance to its silky textures, complimented by a polished display of ripe red berries, plums and blood orange, but also a core of brilliant acidity that keeps the expression incredibly fresh. Salty minerals mingle with fine tannins throughout the long and structured finale, where notes of licorice and inner violet florals resonate on and on. This is packed full of balanced pleasure, yet it also has all the components to excel through medium-term cellaring." 93 Eric Guido, Vinous

Ronco Severo Artiul Merlot Riserva Friuli Colli Orientali 2017, 0.75L
Merlot from Colli Orientali del Friuli, Friuli Venezia Giulia

"The dark and spicy 2017 Artïûl wafts up with balsam herbs, allspice and cloves complementing black cherry and hints of cocoa. This enters the palate with prominence through it's mineral-tinged red berries that saturate but also energized by brisk acids. It displays tremendous length with grippy tannin yet also remains primary and intense. Hold on to your seat today with this high-test, varietal Merlot, yet time should mellow it out and unlock further depths." 93 Eric Guido, Vinous

"In the words of proprietor/winemaker Stefano Novello: 'This is perhaps my best wine. Artïûl is the name, in Friulano, given to the newly born grass that grows in the fields after the hay has been collected. This indeed, was the first new wine I produced when the management of the estate was handed down from by dad, Severo.'"

Venica & Venica Pinot Grigio Jesera 2019, 0.75L
Pinot Grigio from Collio, Friuli Venezia Giulia

"The 2019 Pinot Grigio Jesera has a pretty pink color with copper hues strewn throughout. It’s wonderfully fresh and lifted, showing white strawberry, apple, a dusting of confectioners’ sugar and hints of candied ginger. Silky textures flesh out across the senses, weightier than expected yet perfectly balanced by brisk acids, taking on a more savory persona, as notes of peach and melon give way to zesty exotic spices. There’s an almost-Asian peppery note here coupled with the wine’s inner florals that excites the senses. The Jesera really makes the case for skin-contact Pinot Grigio and will appeal to a broad range of palates."  92 Points, Eric Guido, Vinous

Carpano Antica Sweet Vermouth NV, 0.75L
Vermouth from Italy, Italy

"This dark, mysterious vermouth is rich, complex and layered, boasting aromas of mint and other herbs, plums and figs, reminiscent of Madeira. The rich flavors are hard to pin down: cocoa, red wine, almonds, bitter marmalade, hints of spice and toffee all play across the palate, finishing with a bracing bitter edge. This delectable sweet vermouth would shine in a Manhattan." 95 Points Wine Enthusiast

Casal Pilozzo Colle Gaio The Old White 2007, 0.75L
Malvasia del Lazio from Lazio, Lazio

"The 2007 Colle Gaio explodes from the glass with a heady and layered display of musky dried mangos and peach skins, as notes of lanolin and crushed dried flowers bring you back to earth. This possesses depths of silky textures, balancing savory and sweet with an almondy richness that mixes with salty minerals and ripe apricot to create a sensation that seems more like food than wine. A glycerol-like coating of fruit extract and liquid inner florals lingers incredibly long as the 2007 tapers off to nuances of candied ginger, hazelnut and a bitter yet lovely twang of lemon pith. At the age of 14, this Malvasia del Lazio is rocking!" 94 Points Eric Guido, Vinous

Monastero Suore Cistercensi Lazio Bianco Coenobium 2021, 0.75L
Trebbiano / Verdicchio / Malvasia from Lazio, Lazio

"Produced in an entirely natural manner under the guidance of Giampiero Bea, the Coenobium is a blend of Trebbiano, Verdicchio, and Malvasia, harvested together and co-fermented without added yeasts or temperature stabilization. Aged on its fine lees in steel and fiberglass tanks, it is bottled just before the next harvest without fining or filtering. The nose is evocative of autumn on multiple sensory levels, with aromas of fennel fronds, chamomile tea, almonds, and tangerine that lead into a full but delicately rendered palate. Vitorchiano’s volcanic soils come through with a somber smoke-iron interplay, and glowing acidity lets the savory flavors coat the mouth, yet the overall impression is one of freshness and drinkability." Producer Notes

"A blend of the same four grapes (Trebbiano, Malvasia, Verdicchio and Grechetto) but, in this instance, the juice is left to ferment on the lees for a period of two weeks or more, extracting all of the flavors, colors and textures of its fruit.  The result is a wine of often deep golden color and penetrating minerality with hints of herbs, particularly anise, and wild flowers.  There are approximately 4,000 bottles produced annually of this cuvée, the overwhelming majority of which comes to the USA." Producer Notes

Bisson Portofino Ciliegiolo 2021, 0.75L
Ciliegiolo from Portofino, Liguria

"Is a traditional red grape variety that is rarely seen. Piero Lugano vinifies it to showcase its light and fruity character.  When presenting it, we group this wine with our classic series of Rosés as it is released in the spring following the prior year’s harvest. Lugano proudly maintains this variety in both the Trigoso and Campegli vineyards situated in the hills above Sestri Levante and Chiavari, respectively.   It is vinified dry, tastes of red cherry and wild berries and its brilliant cherry color is a particular joy to behold.  Approximately 400 cases are imported for the US market annually." Alessandro e Gian Natale Fantino Barolo Riserva Bussia Cascina Dardi 2015, 0.75L
Nebbiolo from Barolo, Piedmont

Just bottled, the 2015 Barolo Riserva Cascina Dardi is a real powerhouse. This full-bodied, potent Barolo packs a huge punch. It won't be ready to drink anytime soon, that much is obvious. Time in the glass brings out aromatic intensity and inner perfume. Spice and blood orange accents lend an exotic quality to this dark, layered Barolo. The Riserva is a wine for readers who appreciate the natural fragility of artisan wines, wines that aren't perfect but that perfectly embody the human spirit.” 96 Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Nov 2021

Antichi Vigneti di Cantalupo Ghemme Collis Breclemae 2015, 0.75L

"The 2015 Ghemme Collis Breclemae is going to be gorgeous, but it needs time, as it is going through and adolescent phase at present. Brooding and somber, with quite a bit of complexity, the 2015 certainly has a ton to offer. Wild cherry, tobacco, spice, leather and cedar all build as this powerful, strapping Ghemme slowly opens. All the 2015 needs is cellaring to be at its most expressive. (Drink between 2025-2040)" 93 Points, Antonio Galloni, Vinous

Cascina Baricchi Barbaresco Riserva Rose Delle Casasse 2015, 0.75L
Nebbiolo from Barbaresco, Piedmont

"The 2015 Barbaresco Riserva Rose delle Casasse is one of the most distinctive wines in all of Piedmont. It emerges from a tiny parcel in Neive first planted in 1913 with the Rose clone of Nebbiolo known for its aromatic intensity, that is rarely seen these days. Deeply bright and perfumed, the 2015 offers up an exotic mélange of sweet red cherry, blood orange, mint, spice, rose petal and kirsch. There's terrific depth and plenty of substance to wrap it all together. The 2015 spent four years in wood, a combination of small barrels and medium-sized casks. I wonder what this wine would like taste like if it was aged in more neutral oak, as there is a bit of oak tannin here. Even so, the 2015 is an exquisite wine and a Barbaresco of real character. Crotin Barbera d'Asti La Martina 2018, 0.75L
Barbera from Barbera d'Asti, Piedmont

"This wine has been a constant favorite of many of our top Italian restaurants and others with Italian influenced cooking. It comes from likely the coldest section of Asti—quite close to Turin—which was the first area to be abandoned after WWII (because it had a train station while many other areas further south didn’t!) and one of the last to be replanted since. It’s a wine that showcases the classic qualities of Barbera, Piedmont’s most widely planted red grape. It’s fresh and textured with soft tannins and mouth-watering wild fruit qualities. Think of those Italian cooking nights without the need to hold the wine so precious; just let it lift your spirit and raise your glass in appreciation for the Italians and their contribution to the world with their splendid culture." Importer Notes

Ferrando Carema Etichetta Bianca 2018, 0.75L
Nebbiolo from Carema, Piedmont

"If there is any wine that defines the Ferrando “oeuvre” it is this one: the white label Carema. No single wine in our portfolio is more illustrative of our work than this brilliant rendition of Nebbiolo. Produced exclusively from the Nebbiolo grape planted in a series of vineyards that sit beneath Mont Blanc (Monte Bianco) in a broad amphitheatre with full southern exposure overlooking the river, Dora Baltea, that runs from the snow-capped mountains south through the Valle d’Aosta into the northwestern range of Piedmont slicing the city of Ivrea in half. The vines are trained in a special way on pergola (known as “tupin” in local dialect) to obtain maximum exposure to the sun in this high altitude district and are planted to soils that are dominated by slate. The appellation of Carema is extremely small: only 16 hectares (approximately 40 acres) are planted to the vine..." Rosenthal Wine Merchant

G. D. Vajra Barbera d'Alba Superiore 2020, 0.75L
Barbera from Barbera d'Alba, Piedmont

"The 2020 Barbera d'Alba Superiore emerges from Bricco Bertone in Sinio, just outside the Barolo zone. Black cherry, gravel, spice, menthol and leather confer gravitas to this very young Barbera. G. D. Vajra Barolo Ravera 2017, 0.75L
Nebbiolo from Barolo, Piedmont

"Lifted and herbaceous, the 2017 Barolo Ravera is noted by aromas of fresh pine, ripe red cherry, licorice, and menthol. The palate has depth without weight and is noted by ripe raspberry fruit, apricot, and black tea. The G.D. Vajra estate is based within the commune of Barolo, where Giuseppe and Aldo Vajra helm the winemaking responsibilities. Giuseppe, who took more of a leadership role in 2008, has been instrumental in continuing to develop the family estate, while Isonzo Vajra leads in vineyard management. Most recently they have completed the expansion of their cellar space, and they are also releasing their wines a touch later to allow the additional time in bottle to soften any harsh edges. As of the 2019 vintage, both the G.D.Vajra and Luigi Baudana estates are certified organic." 96 Audrey Frick, JebDunnuck.com

"The 2017 Barolo Ravera is gorgeous right out of the gate. I am so impressed with its depth and pedigree. Rose petal, sweet red berry fruit, lavender, spice and dried herbs are all finely delineated in a Barolo of tremendous presence. Orange peel, cinnamon and cedar develop later, adding shades of dimension. Time in the glass brings out the wine's stature and power. The 2017 is going to be fascinating to follow. G.D. Vajra Barolo Coste Di Rose 2017, 0.75L
Nebbiolo from Barolo, Piedmont

"With fruit from higher-elevation vineyards in the village of Barolo, the 2017 Barolo Coste di Rose is quite elegantly downplayed and fragile. The wine reveals wild berry, cassis and lots of blue flower or lilac. A pretty mineral note recalls crushed limestone and is present through the long and polished mouthfeel. This wine overperforms, considering the challenges of this vintage that saw extreme weather, from spring frost to scorching summer temperatures. These vineyard sites performed better than most. Some 4,800 bottles were released." 94 Monica Larner, Wine Advocate

"The 2017 Barolo Coste di Rose has bright aromatics of candied raspberry, apricot, anise, and dusty earth. The palate is medium-bodied, with fine tannins and notes of dried wild strawberry, fresh roses, and mineral-rich earth. This wine is open and inviting, while maintaining freshness and drive. Drink 2024-2040.<!--more-->The G.D. Vajra estate is based within the commune of Barolo, where Giuseppe and Aldo Vajra helm the winemaking responsibilities. "The 2017 Barolo Coste di Rose is pretty, supple and inviting. Some of the tannins need to resolve, but this is a young Barolo after all. The Coste di Rose doesn't have the sensuality of the Albe or the pedigree of the Viole, but it nevertheless has so much to give. Crushed flowers, sweet red berry fruit, mint, crushed rocks and sage are some of the many notes that linger. Giacomo Conterno Barolo Francia 2018, 0.75L
Nebbiolo from Barolo, Piedmont

"Of the three Barolo samples I tasted from barrel (including Arione and Cerretta, which are also from Serralunga d'Alba), the Giacomo Conterno 2018 Barolo Francia was the furthest behind and the hardest to pin down at this stage in its infancy. I have opened my range of scores accordingly to compensate for the magical unknowns that are likely to occur as the wine moves toward greater harmony and integration before its commercial release. The wine is linear and pointedly focused, lacking the width and volume it will gain when given more time to flesh out and relax. The aromas are also quite primary and simple at this point, with dark cherry and even a hint of ripe strawberry ceding gradually to grilled herb, blue flower and baked brick. This vintage of Barolo Francia will require patience." 94-97 Monica Larner, Wineadvocate.com, Nov 2021

Guido Porro Langhe Nebbiolo Camilu 2020, 0.75L
Nebbiolo from Langhe, Piedmont

."Don’t be fooled: this is a simple Langhe Nebbiolo in name and in price, but there is much more to it. The grapes are sourced from parcels adjacent to two legendary Barolo crus in the commune of Serralunga d’Alba: Lazzarito and the fabled Vigna Rionda. Having tasted Porro’s Baroli from these two sites, I infer that the Lazzarito portion provides this Nebbiolo with its surprising finesse, in the form of plush, toothsome fruit and a lovely perfume of dried flowers. The Vigna Rionda portion, conversely, supplies power and earthy grip. You’ll find enough structure to take this rosso seriously, but not enough to keep you from gulping it down unabashedly." —Anthony Lynch, Kermit Lynch Imports

Luigi Baudana Barolo Cerretta 2017, 0.75L
Nebbiolo from Barolo, Piedmont

"A sweet perfume lifts from the 2017 Barolo Cerretta, with fresh violets, kirsch, cinnamon, and sage. The palate is energetic with forward fruit through the mid-palate with persistence, with tea leaf and present but well-integrated tannins. The Cerretta displays the elegance that is possible within the 2017 vintage. Drink 2022-2040. Since 2009, Luigi Baudana has been under the operation and ownership of the G.D. Vajra estate from Barolo. As with the Vajra estate, Giuseppe and Aldo manage the winemaking process, along with Giuseppe’s brother Isidoro, the vineyard manager. They continue to consult with Luigi for his understanding of the land and experience. They utilize primarily 15- to 17-hectoliter Slavonian barrels for aging, as the size of the cellar dictates. For the Barolo del Comune di Serralunga d'Alba bottling, selections are made from the crus of Baudana, Cerretta, and Costabella. With the 2019 vintage, they are now certified organic. (Drink between 2022-2040)" 96 Audrey Frick, JebDunnuck.com

"A dark, somber wine, the 2017 Barolo Cerretta shows the more potent, brooding side of Serralunga. Black cherry, gravel, smoke, cured meats, cloves and menthol add to an impression of virile intensity and pure power. The celebrated Rocche di Castiglione is located adjacent, and the Pira cru is directly above. Rocche Rivera enjoys an ideal position in one of the best-performing areas of the appellation in this classic vintage. The Figli Luigi Oddero 2016 Barolo Rocche Rivera is stunning, with a level of harmony and purity that makes an immediate and lasting impact. Nervi-Conterno Gattinara Vigna Molsino 2016, 0.75L
Nebbiolo from Gattinara, Piedmont

"Tasted next to the Valferana, the 2016 Gattinara Vigna Molsino is much more nervous in feel. Iron, dried herbs, sweet dried cherry, mint, crushed rocks, white pepper and earthy notes give the Molsino a good deal of aromatic complexity to match its intense, saline-infused minerality. Today, though, the tannins and acids are almost overpowering. Readers will find an old-school, classically austere Gattinara that needs 10-15 years to be at its best. The 2016 is an absolute jewel of a wine, but it should be purchased only by readers with either very good genes are a ton of optimism regarding their own longevity." 96+ Points Antonio Galloni, Vinous

Nervi-Conterno Gattinara Vigna Molsino 2018, 0.75L
Nebbiolo from Gattinara, Piedmont

"The 2018 Gattinara Molsino emerges from a relatively warm, sunny spot on the estate at 400 meters in elevation. It presents myriad shades of dark cherry/plum fruit, sage, menthol, new leather and dark spices. Potent and virile in the glass, the Molsino possesses tremendous drive as it builds into a deep, beautifully resonant finish that is utterly captivating. It's a remarkable effort for the first year in which Roberto Conterno and his team were in charge. The ambition is pretty clear. Molsino will soon be the Monfortino of Alto Piemonte."  98 Antonio Galloni, Vinous.com, Mar 2022

The Valferana is complex and wonderfully deep from start to finish. Valferana is the cooler of the two single vineyard Gattinaras that are bottled separately here. Produttori del Barbaresco Barbaresco 2018, 0.75L
Nebbiolo from Barbaresco, Piedmont

“Packaged in its distinctive brown paper label, the Produttori del Barbaresco 2018 Barbaresco is a beautifully lean and luminous expression of Nebbiolo, and that pretty color should remain intact over time. The aromas are bold and ripe with dark and purple fruit, but the bouquet shows interesting twists with earth, truffle, licorice and grilled herb. Sottimano Barbaresco Pajoré 2019, 0.75L
Nebbiolo from Barbaresco, Piedmont

Here's a beautifully elegant and fine expression of Nebbiolo from Treiso. The Sottimano 2019 Barbaresco Pajoré shows an earthy personality with crushed stone and potting soil that frame a pretty core of red and purple fruits. I love the depth and complexity of this wine and the slightly more structured tannins that give this wine power and importance. 95, Monica Larner, Wine Advocate

"Plenty of red fruit with cranberry and watermelon undertones. Fresh flowers, too. Full-bodied with tannins that are back-loaded and give you a punch at the end of the palate. The center-palate has bright flavors of strawberry and orange with hints of flowers. Try after 2025." 94, James Suckling, JamesSuckling.com

"The 2019 Barbaresco Pajorè is dense and quite closed in on itself. Then again, that is Pajorè. There's terrific depth and density here, but not quite the power of some recent releases. That's not a bad thing, as the more restrained style allows the nuance to come through. This is an especially refined edition of the Pajorè. Today, the Pajorè is quite compact and a bit of a bruiser, but there's terrific fruit intensity that just needs time to blossom. (Drink between 2026-2041)" 93+, Antonio Galloni, Vinous.com

Vietti Nebbiolo Perbacco 2020, 0.75L
Nebbiolo from Langhe, Piedmont

"The 2020 Langhe Nebbiolo Perbacco is another terrific entry-level wine from Vietti. In this vintage, the Perbacco is especially fine. Sweet dried cherry, herbs, mint, crushed flowers, anise and orange peel grace this striking, alluring Nebbiolo. There's tons of depth and sheer pedigree, things that have not always been present in recent editions. For years, Perbacco was a very serious wine - some might say almost too serious - for its peer group. Then Vietti pivoted to a simpler style. With the 2020, Perbacco seems to once again be a wine that overdelivers, big time. Quite frankly, the 2020 Perbacco is more satisfying than many Barbarescos and Barolos I tasted this year. de Forville Barbaresco 2019, 0.75L
Nebbiolo from Barbaresco, Piedmont

"This is the standard-bearer for the estate. The vines are planted exclusively within the confines of Barbaresco and are scattered among various 'crus', including Rabaja and Pozzo. The average age of the vines is 35 years. After harvest, the juice is fermented in stainless steel for approximately two weeks; then the wine is racked into large oak 'botti' to age at least 18 additional months and frequently longer before being bottled. This wine is emblematic of the work done at the De Forville estate: the wine is rigorously traditional, marrying the finesse of Barbaresco with the alluring aromas and flavors of truffle, earth, berries, rose, tar and leather and carrying, most important of all, a backbone of sweet, dusty tannins that give length and breed."  Importer Notes

The soil is essentially sandy in composition and sits at 340 meters altitude on south-facing slopes. The vineyard was planted in 1980. Harvest (manual) normally occurs in mid-September. The grapes are briefly macerated and the fermentation occurs at controlled temperatures (around 15 degrees Celsius) for two to three weeks. The wine rests in stainless steel until the early spring months of the following year and is usually released to the market, after several months of bottle aging, in late summer/early fall. Eduardo Torres Acosta IGT Rosso Arenaria 2019, 0.75L
Nerello Mascalese from Terre Siciliane, Sicily

"The 2019 Nerello Mascalese Arenaria lifts from the glass with a dazzling bouquet of incense, dried violets, spiced tangerine and cherry pits. This is silky-smooth and elegant, with depths of red berries laced with lavender under an air of blue and purple florals. Tannins slowly build, creating a structured finish; yet there’s a pleasant inner sweetness that lingers and keeps me looking back to the glass. The 2019 Arenaria is simply stunning, and to think that this is the first vintage. This is from a half-hectare, north-facing parcel, just outside of the Etna zone, on Mt. Portella at 700 meters. However, the soils aren’t volcanic, but instead sub-marine sandstone with clay and quartz. Fattorie Romeo del Castello Vigo Etna Rosso 2016, 0.75L
Nerello Mascalese from Etna, Sicily

"The top wine from Fattorie Romeo del Castello is its 2016 Etna Rosso Vigo, and this bottle is held back for two more years of aging before its commercial release. There is a lot of fluid complexity and depth here, and new sides of the wine come into view with each swirl of the glass. The organic wine is fresh and tonic with interchanging aromas of wild rose, blue flower, cassis and dried herb. The mineral nuance and the wine's dryness are downplayed in the 2016 vintage. Instead, it offers substantial fruit weight and extra volume that builds the fruity, or more buoyant, aromatic profile of this terrific red. If this offering of 3,400 bottles were a stock, any good analyst would put it down as a strong buy." 96 Points, Monica Larner, Wine Advocate

The 2021 finishes lightly structured and tightly wound, holding its power in reserve as vivid lemon rind and apricot hints linger. Cellaring is recommended. "Like chiseling away at sheer rock, the 2021 Müller-Thurgau Sass Rigais opens with a smoky and chalky burst of minerality that I find wildly attractive. With swirling, the palate leans more toward fruit, revealing lime zest and crushed green apples. This is silky-smooth, displaying undeniable elegance, just as a salty flourish and citrus-tinged acids effortlessly cut through its textural opulence. The 2021 finishes dry with tropical inner florals and tension that demands patience. The Sass Rigais can be enjoyed today for its potential, but further cellaring is recommended. Casanova di Neri Brunello di Montalcino 2018, 0.75L
Sangiovese from Brunello di Montalcino, Tuscany

"A bright, fruity style, this red offers cherry, strawberry, currant, white pepper and mineral flavors. Reveals almond and earth accents as this extends on the finish. Features fine balance and mouthwatering length. Best from 2025 through 2042" 94, Bruce Sanderson, Wine Spectator

"With a special commemorative label that celebrates its 40th birthday (1978–2018), the Casanova di Neri 2018 Brunello di Montalcino is lush and carefully concentrated to offer intensity and textural richness. The bright fruit remains intact in this wine, with plenty of cherry and blackberry, in an encouraging nod to the future cellar potential of this bottle. Many Brunellos from this vintage reveal faded or dried fruit, but thankfully not this wine. The acidity is mild, falling softly to the background, and the tannins are expertly managed. It is polished with fresh crunchy fruit yet retains a good amount of concentration, with notes of black raspberry, turned fresh soil, and graphite. Mouthwatering, with salinity, fresh acidity, and great length, it has fine tannins and warming spice on the finish. Drink: 2024-2044." 96+, Audrey Frick, JebDunnuck.com

"Aromas of cedar, berry, mushroom and burnt orange follow through to a full body with medium, chewy tannins and a fluid, flavorful finish. Not overdone." 93 Points, James Suckling, JamesSukling.com

"Generous, layered and rich, the Ciacci Piccolomini d'Aragona 2017 Brunello di Montalcino shows the generous fruit and deep layering that identifies this vintage . . . . This edition (with 69,000 bottles made) shows a bright note of sweet cherry that features strongly both on the bouquet and the palate. Ficomontanino Toscana Rosso Granomelo 2018, 0.75L
Sangiovese from Tuscany, Tuscany

"Dusty cherry and crushed fall leaves evolve slowly into a deeper display of citrus-tinged raspberries, cinnamon and sweet white smoke as the 2018 Rosso Granomelo blossoms in the glass. This seduces with a silky wave of pure, ripe red berries and spices, as brilliant acidity lends vibrancy and saline-mineral tones add a salty flair. The 2018 has energy to burn, coming across as primary and wild, yet also refined. An herbal twang and grippy tannins collect toward the close. It leaves the palate classically dry, caked with an almost-chalky coating; however, it’s mouthwatering all the same. The contrasts here keep you guessing with each tilt of the glass, a mix of sheer drinkability and noble stature. This is a gorgeous glass of Sangiovese. The Granomelo hails from Ficomontanino’s Melogranino vineyard. It goes through spontaneous fermentation with a two-month maceration, and then refines completely in concrete. I’ll be following this wine closely in the vintages to come. A selection of inspired Tuscan wines arrived from Maria Sole at Ficomontanino. This is a 12-hectare property located in the extreme southeast of Tuscany, bordering Umbria and Lazio. In fact, geographically speaking, the climate here is closer to northern Lazio and mountainous Umbria than it is to Tuscany. The vineyards were originally planted by Maria Sole's grandfather in the 1960s, yet winemaking was more of a hobby for him. She took the reins of the family farm from her father after being bitten by the wine bug and was inspired by the likes of Tenute Dettori in Sardinia. Her education at Slow Food’s University of Culinary Arts at Pollenzo is also a huge influence in the winemaking here, choosing natural practices in the vineyards, spontaneous fermentations, long macerations, neutral aging vessels, no fining or filtration, and a minimum use of sulfur. In the end, Maria Sole really seems to be onto something, delivering a transparent and honest representation of terroir." 93 Points, Eric Guido, Vinous

Il Marroneto Brunello di Montalcino 2017, 0.75L
Sangiovese from Brunello di Montalcino, Tuscany

"Alessandro Mori's Il Marroneto 2017 Brunello di Montalcino opens to a very distinguished and unique character that makes this wine easy to recognize in a lineup of Brunello. This hot and dry growing season made for more powerful aromas and sometimes riper flavors in the appellation, generally speaking. But this magically lean-bodied wine follows its own path, and the warmth of the summer seems to have cemented almost exotic aromas of bay leaf, crushed flower, campfire ash and iron ore. The wine is exceedingly silky and elegant, but instead of opulence, you get streamlined tension accompanied by lifted, immediate aromas of fruit, flowers and light spice." 95 Points, Monica Larner, Wine Advocate

Le Ragnaie Brunello di Montalcino Casanovina Montosoli 2017, 0.75L
Sangiovese from Brunello di Montalcino, Tuscany

"This is one of three black-label special selections made by Le Ragnaie. The 2017 Brunello di Montalcino Casanovina Montosoli has a tonic and bright character with dark fruit flavors, blackcurrant and tarry smoke. The wine feels tightly knit and compact, but it takes on more volume and momentum, especially as it hits the palate. In fact, it ends on a long and polished note with some crushed limestone or dusty mineral. Production is limited to 2,900 bottles." 95 Points, Monica Larner, Wine Advocate

Le Ragnaie Brunello di Montalcino Passo Del Lume Spento 2017, 0.75L
Sangiovese from Brunello di Montalcino, Tuscany

"The Le Ragnaie 2017 Brunello di Montalcino Passo del Lume Spento (with 3,020 bottles made) sees its fruit sourced from one of the highest places in the appellation, or the "pass of the extinguished lantern," as the wine's name translates into English. It is part of a broader trend that Montalcino vintners seem to be looking for cooler, high-altitude growing sites for Sangiovese. This wine demonstrates without a doubt that elevation is key in obtaining elegance in the warm years. This Brunello is particularly bright, punchy and energetic. It is one of the stars of this report." 96+ Points, Monica Larner, Wine Advocate

Ornellaia Bolgheri Superiore 2020, 0.75L
Cabernet Sauvignon / Merlot / Cabernet Franc / Petit Verdot from Bolgheri Superiore, Tuscany

"Tasted from barrel, the 2020 Bolgheri Superiore Ornellaia will be presented in the fall but won’t hit the market until spring of the following year. This is a beauty, so generous and opulent with fully seamless transitions. The wine’s traditional blend is mostly Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot with tiny percentages of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, although this warm vintage makes due with a pinch less of the Cabernet Sauvignon. Fruit is selected across 107 hectares of Ornellaia vines, although the estate recently purchased an additional eight hectares next to Guado al Tasso in Castagneto Carducci, with terraces and vines aged between 15 and 28 years old. This broad and generous expression has a beautiful quality of fruit and oak that speaks to the very best of Italian winemaking. Drink: 2026-2050." 95-97, Monica Larner, Wine Advocate

Podere Il Palazzino Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Grosso Sanese 2016, 0.75L
Sangiovese from Chianti Classico, Tuscany

"Il Palazzino's Chianti Classico Grosso Sanese is often one of the great wines of Chianti Classico, as it is once again in 2016. Dark, somber and explosive, the 2016 possesses off the charts intensity to match its brooding personality. Black cherry, scorched earth, tobacco, licorice and incense hit the palate. Deep and layered in the glass, the 2016 is super-impressive. What a wine. Il Palazzino is, inexplicably, one of the most under-the-radar estates in all of Chianti Classico. Alessandro and Andrea Sderci craft, rich, large-scaled Chianti Classicos that capture all of the natural intensity of Monti in Chianti, where the estate is located. Readers who have not tasted these wines owe it to themselves to do so." 96 Antonio Galloni, Vinous

Scopetone Rosso di Montalcino 2016, 0.75L
Sangiovese from Rosso di Montalcino, Tuscany

"The 2016 Rosso di Montalcino is very pretty, understated and very delicious. Readers will find an soft-spoken Rosso that is all about persistence, delicacy and class. The 2016 is not an obvious wine, but it is compelling. Sweet floral and red cherry notes perk up the brilliant finish in this light to medium-bodied Rosso from Scopetone." 90 Points Antonio Galloni, Vinous

Silvio Nardi Brunello di Montalcino 2017, 0.75L
Sangiovese from Brunello di Montalcino, Tuscany

"This is a beautiful, fresh 2017 Brunello with fine tannins and a medium body of cherry, bark, cedar and pine-needle flavors. It’s long and polished with ultra-fine tannins and fresh acidity. Nicely done for the vintage. Drink or hold." 94 James Suckling

"Tenute Silvio Nardi is an estate worth visiting. It occupies one of the most extreme locations in the appellation, tucked away into the hills north of the town in a wild no-man's-land of its own. Once you get there, there is a cozy, warm feeling, with vineyards carved out of the surrounding Mediterranean shrub oaks and forests. If you taste forest floor, button mushroom and wild flowers in the 2017 Brunello di Montalcino, you could easily imagine this magical place. This is a silky, mid-weight Brunello with a cool-climate character (which is preserved despite the hot vintage). An ample 114,000 bottles are hitting the market now." 93 Monica Larner, Wine Advocate

"A rich yet well-defined white, with mingling floral, honey, apple and peach flavors. Complex and long, with an underlying mineral element from beginning to end. Drink now through 2027. 1,650 cases made." 92 Bruce Sanderson, Wine Spectator

"The 2019 Vernaccia di San Gimignano Fiore offers yellow flowers, orchard fruit, dried flowers, almonds and tangerine peel. Varietal notes are given an extra kick of richness, yielding a Vernaccia with lovely mid-palate creaminess and light tropical accents, both of which add character. Tenuta San Guido Guidalberto 2020, 0.75L
Cabernet Sauvignon / Merlot from Tuscany, Tuscany

."A forceful and profound Guidalberto that tells the story of the 2020 vintage with a very dark profile reminiscent of black cherry, black plums, dark chocolate, burnt sage, and marjoram. Fresher nuances emerge slowly with the passage of minutes in the glass, proceeding to a progressive balsamic character accented with dried white flowers and mandarin juice fused with green tones reminiscent of peppermint. Full bodied, powerful, and layered on the palate, it demonstrates grace and character within a considerably languid disposition. Gorgeous right from the start, but better after 2024." 94 Points, Raffaele Vecchione, WinesCritic.com

Fongoli Montefalco Sagrantino Fracanton 2015, 0.75L
Sagrantino from Montefalco, Umbria

"The 2015 Montefalco Sagrantino Fracanton takes the vibrant character and depth of Fongoli Montefalco Sagrantino and dials everything up a notch. Like a florist shop on the nose, this is literally bursting with rose and violet perfumes complicated by crushed rocks and tart cherries. Rich with soft contours yet full of life, it’s the tantalizing acidity that really shines here, as it enlivens the ripe red fruits and sweet herbal tones within. Hints of licorice stain the senses throughout the finale, as the 2015 finishes potent yet incredibly fresh. The tannin management here is unbelievable. The fruit for the Fracanton goes through spontaneous fermentation in open-topped clay amphorae without sulfur or temperature control, after which it's matured in large oak botti for another five years." 95+ Points, Eric Guido, Vinous

Paolo Bea Montefalco Rosso San Valentino 2014, 0.75L
Sangiovese / Sagrantino / Montepulciano from Montefalco, Umbria

"The 2014 Montefalco Rosso San Valentino is the result of a very difficult vintage for Paolo Bea, though you’d never know it. Here I’m finding an exotic, layered expression, as rosy florals and peppery herbs give way to sweet, crushed strawberries with smoky minerals, hints of soy and rich brown spices. Soft textures effortlessly wash across the senses with feminine weight, displaying pure red and blue fruits, and giving way to a coating of liquid florals and saturating minerals. The finish is long and grippier than expected, yet purity is the name of the game, as pretty berry fruits resonate over a gentle twang of youthful tannin. Giampiero’s vineyards were hit hard by downy mildew in 2014, and all of the fruit he saved went into this year's San Valentino. While it’s not on the same level as recent vintages, it’s still a very special wine that delivers a lot of pleasure, and at only 12.5% alcohol."." 91 Points Eric Guido, Vinous

Grosjean Cornalin Vigne Rovettaz 2020, 0.75L
Cornalin from Valle d'Aosta, Valle d'Aosta

"An alpine-inspired blend of pepper-tinged florals, sage and flinty crushed rocks gives way to notes of lavender and raspberry as the 2020 Cornalin Vigne Rovettaz blossoms in the glass. This fleshes out across the palate with silky textures and ripe red fruits under an air of rosy inner florals. Its brisk acids maintain marvelous freshness, lasting throughout the long finale, where violet shades and hints of blueberry linger. "Peppery fresh and perfumed with lavender, crushed wild berries and rose, the 2020 Torrette makes a wild first impression. It’s texturally deep and almost salty in character, with gobs of tart red and black currants under an air of violet inner florals. Residual acids keep the expression lively and mouth watering through the finale as the 2020 finishes with hints of licorice and a dash of sour citrus. Lo Triolet Pinot Noir 2018, 0.75L
Pinot Noir from Valle d'Aosta, Valle d'Aosta

"With glacier soils and extreme, high-altitude weather, Valle d'Aosta is one of the most difficult places to grow Pinot Noir, not to mention the arduous task of farming its steep slopes. However, the Lo Triolet 2018 Vallée d'Aoste Pinot Noir makes it look easy thanks to the careful balance and delicate varietal flavors inherent to this wine. It reveals blue flower, rosebud, orange peel, nutmeg and crushed stone. This is a silky, polished and lean-bodied expression to celebrate with an aged Formagella from one of Valle d'Aosta's many cheesemaking valleys." 94 Points Monica Larner, The Wine Advocate

Bisson Glera Frizzante 2021, 0.75L
Glera from Marca Trevigiana, Veneto

"For many years now, Lugano has worked with his good friend Eli Spagnol of Torre Zecchei in the élite Valdobbiadene district of the Veneto. In a sea of vapid, overly sweet Prosecco, this friz- zante stands out proudly. Spagnol is in charge of a mere 30 ha, and our wine is hand-harvested from steep hillside vineyards in the DOCG zone of Valdobiaddene. The wine has just 2 g/l of residual sugar—a bone-dry offering that stands in sharp contrast to its many cloying peers. Clean, bright, and refreshing, it presents notes of acacia honey, white flowers, crunchy green apples, and tart nectarines atop a subtly mineral underlay." Importer Notes, Rosenthal Wine Merchant

Case Paolin Pietra Fine Asolo Superiore Extra Brut NV NV, 0.75L

"Smoky yet sweet on the nose, the NV Extra Brut Prosecco Superiore Pietra Fine keeps me coming back with a bouquet of dusty dried flowers, cinnamon spice and baked apples. This takes a turn toward the savory and mineral spectrum on the palate. Brilliant acidity adds tremendous energy throughout. The Pietra Fine finishes long with potent citrus and inner florals while leaving the mouth watering for more. Consider me a fan. (Lot# 4721) (Drink between 2022-2026)" 91, Eric Guido, Vinous.com

Giuseppe Quintarelli Valpolicella Classico Superiore 2015, 0.75L
Corvina / Molinara / Rondinella from Valpolicella Classico, Veneto

"The 2015 Valpolicella Classico Superiore lifts up with unprecedented freshness as a beautiful mix of fresh cherries, cloves, and cedar is complemented by rosy florals. This is a model of purity, slightly salty in character, with crisp red fruits and sweet spice nuances. It tapers off lightly structured perfumed, leaving the palate perfectly reset as a tinge of minerality lingers. The warn vintage 2015 is complex yet finessed.
