Armand Heitz Chevalier Montrachet 2020, 0.75L
Chardonnay from Puligny Montrachet, Burgundy

"This is aromatically quite similar to the Perrières with its nose of matchstick, mineral reduction and markedly floral scents that are trimmed in just enough wood to remark upon. The wonderfully refined and intense medium weight flavors possess only average density though the bone-dry, firm, youthfully austere and stony finish displays superb length. Note well that at least some patience will be necessary as this is presently very tightly wound." 94 Points, Allen Meadows, Burghound

Bachelet-Monnot Chassagne-Montrachet 2021, 0.75L
Chardonnay from Chassagne Montrachet, Burgundy

"Pungent aromas of resin, petrol and reduction precede bigger-bodied and solidly concentrated flavors that deliver better depth and length on the equally rustic finale that is sufficiently structured to suggest that 5 to 8 years of keeping should be beneficial." 88-91 Allen Meadows, Burghound

Begue-Mathiot Chablis 2022, 0.75L
Chardonnay from Chablis, Burgundy

“With a pale gold colour, this fragrant white wine reveals a bouquet of lively and mineral freshness. Food and Wine Pairing: Chablis harmonizes wonderfully with seafood, snails, and does not fail to bring an exceptional touch to Chablis ham. Serve between 12 and 14 °C.”  Producer Notes

Benjamin Leroux Nuits-Saint-Georges Aux Boudots 2020, 0.75L
Pinot Noir from Nuits St. Georges, Burgundy

"Very typical of Nuits-St-Georges, with a dark plummy fruit, notes of earth and mineral, and an almost savoury edge to it - slightly rustic, yet still very refined. The grapes from this 0.4ha parcel were fermented as 60% whole-cluster, which imparts a slight edge of herbs or menthol to the wine, but this amplifies in a good way the slightly sauvage character. Delicious." 94 Charles Curtis MW, Decanter Magazine

"Background hints of wood and menthol are present on the super-spicy aromas of black cherry, raspberry and a plenitude of floral wisps. The sleek, intense and very rich medium weight plus flavors possess a caressing mouthfeel that possess notably better punch on the youthfully austere, balanced and impressively persistent finale. This is sufficiently compact that it's going to need at least a few years of keeping first." 92-94 Points, Allen Meadows, Burghound

Benjamin Leroux St. Romain Sous le Chateau 2021, 0.75L
Chardonnay from Saint-Romain, Burgundy

“The 2021 Saint-Romain Sous Le Château has a fragrant nose, with green apple, grapefruit, linden and a touch of blackcurrant leaf. The palate is well balanced with Granny Smith, nectarine and a touch of ginger. It showcases fine depth, with admirable concentration on the finish for a Saint-Romain.” 89-91, Neal Martin, Vinous, Nov 2022

Bessin-Tremblay Chablis 2020, 0.75L
Chardonnay from Chablis, Burgundy

"Not surprisingly, having only been in bottle for one week, the 2020 Chablis AC from Domaine Bessin is a little shaken up post-bottling, but it is also abundantly clear that there is excellent depth and transparency here, coupled to lovely acidity and plenty of length and grip. Based on how well the wines that were still in tank showed, I have zero doubt that this wine too will deliver lovely precision and focus as well, once it has recovered from the mise. The bouquet offers up scents of apple, pear, chalky soil tones, a touch of citrus peel and a topnote of dried flowers. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and nicely balanced, with excellent material at the core, fine mineral undertow, zesty acids and impressive length and grip. The focus will snap back here once it recovers from the bottling and will be a lovely bottle of AC. (Drink between 2022-2040)" 90-91, John Gillman, View from the Cellar

"An overtly floral nose speak of ocean breeze, citrus and an interesting hint of crushed mint leaf. The delicious, fleshy and relatively forward medium-weight flavors possess an appealing texture along with a lingering finish that is brightened by refreshing hints of acid tang and bitter lemon. A quality villages that should drink well young." 89, Allen Meadows, Burghound

Bessin-Tremblay Chablis 1er Cru La Fourchaume 2021, 0.75L
Chardonnay from Chablis, Burgundy

“There's no Pièce au Comte this year, so everything went into the 2021 Chablis 1er Cru Fourchaume, an attractive wine that unwinds int he glass with aromas of honeycomb, white flowers, oyster shell, orange blossom and struck match. Medium to full-bodied, bright and satiny, it's pure and precise, with racy acids and a delicately honeyed finish. While it's still a touch shut down after its recent bottling, it will appeal to Chablis purists.” 93, William Kelley, Wine Advocate, Sep 2023

Bessin-Tremblay Chablis Grand Cru Valmur 2021, 0.75L

“The 2021 Chablis Grand Cru Valmur is a taut, chiseled wine, unfurling to reveal aromas of citrus zest, crisp green apple, iodine, white flowers and freshly baked bread. Medium to full-bodied, layered and concentrated, it's bright and racy and concludes with a penetratingly saline finish. As ever, it's one of the best Chablis of the vintage.” 94+, William Kelley, Wine Advocate, Sep 2023

Bouchard Pere & Fils Le Corton 2016, 0.75L
Pinot Noir from Corton, Burgundy

"Very, very generous wood treatment is sufficiently toasty to presently dominate the otherwise layered nose of dark cherry, raspberry, earth and sauvage-inflected aromas. There is superb concentration, power and richness to the big-bodied flavors that possess excellent reserves of dry extract that helps to buffer the exceptionally firm tannic spine shaping the superbly long mineral-driven finish. This is at once impressive as hell but it's also very woody and while the underlying material appears to be more than sufficient to eventually integrate the oak, it will require time for this to happen." 93-95 Allen Meadows, Burghound.com

Bouchard Père & Fils Meursault Les Perrieres 2018, 0.75L
Chardonnay from Meursault, Burgundy

"The 2018 Meursault 1er Cru Les Perrières is showing very nicely from bottle, offering up a youthful but already expressive bouquet of citrus oil, pear, blanched almonds, pastry cream and white flowers. Medium to full-bodied, racy and incisive, it's elegantly textural, with fine concentration, tangy acids, and a precise, mineral finish. While this Perrières is already deceptively charming, if it gains in depth and complexity with bottle age as much as I suspect it will, this score may seem conservative." 93 William Kelley, Wine Advocate

Bret Brothers La Soufrandiere Saint-Veran La Bonnode Ovoide Cuvée Zen 2021, 0.75L
Chardonnay from Saint-Véran, Burgundy

“This cuvée comes from grapes grown at the foot of the rock of Vergisson. There is a lovely, salty mineral edge to the apricot and nectarine fruit aromas, and a dynamic, lively balance on the palate that draws the wine to a lingering finish. The wine is fermented and aged in concrete eggs and finished with six more months of ageing in tank. The result marries complexity with superb purity of fruit.” 92 Charles Curtis MW, Decanter Magazine

Bret Brothers La Soufrandière Pouilly Fuisse En Chatenay 2021, 0.75L
Chardonnay from Pouilly Fuissé, Burgundy

"This impressive wine boasts lovely aromas of lemon peel and mineral with a floral edge. The body is lively and fresh, with bright acidity, medium body, and enough extract to drive a long finish. The grapes come from a 0.69-hectare parcel at the foot of the Roche de Vergisson. The old-vine Chardonnay was pressed directly without crushing and fermented in old oak casks, where it will stay for two full winters. No sulfur is used until bottling, and at that point, a de minimus 20 mg/litre is added.” 93 Charles Curtis MW, Decanter Magazine

Bret Brothers Pouilly Fuisse En Terres de Vergisson 2021, 0.75L
Chardonnay from Pouilly Fuissé, Burgundy

"This marvelously incisive Pouilly-Fuissé is a blend of two parcels in Vergisson with two different soil types; both are cool terroirs that bring an exotic tropical note of passionfruit and pomelo to the wine along with a strong mineral underpinning. The texture has a lively acidity, but there is real ripeness to give the wines a delicious dynamic balance. The grapes are pressed as whole clusters, and the juice is fermented in older oak casks. Bruno Clair Marsannay 'Les Grasses Tetes' 2019, 0.75L
Pinot Noir from Marsannay, Burgundy

“Traditionally, this is the biggest of the Marsannay wines from Clair, coming from a 2ha parcel on the slopes above the village, in heavier clay soils, planted at the beginning of 1969. Fermented with 30% whole clusters on native yeasts, with a gentle extraction, the result is a wine with pleasantly forward fruit that is slightly marked by the wood at this stage, but with time this should integrate well. (Drink between 2024-2039).” 92, Charles Curtis MW, Decanter, Oct 2020

This excellent effort is a dense Bourgogne that should reward several years of cellaring." Burghound, Allen Meadows

Caroline Morey Chassagne Montrachet Les Chambrees 2021, 0.75L
Chardonnay from Chassagne Montrachet, Burgundy

"From three lieux-dits, the 2021 Chassagne-Montrachet Chambrées has a tightly-wound bouquet with red apple, lime and crushed stone. The palate is quite intense and weighty in the mouth, rounded like a Meursault yet counterbalanced by a keen line of acidity that maintains focus on the finish." This is my inaugural exploration of the wines of Caroline Morey, aka Pierre-Yves Colin’s ‘better half.’ The wines were inherited from her family and hewn from a different cloth, even though they have been made in the same winery in Chassagne since 2017. The one major difference compared to PYCM is that she uses slightly less new oak, around 20-25% instead of 30-35% - not to mention half-a-dozen reds. Readers should note that the 2021 Chassagne-Montrachet Village includes fruit from declassified Premier Crus from Les Caillerets and Chaumées. Pierre-Yves explains the approach to the reds: ‘The reds undergo little extraction, and Caroline did not pursue more colour or tannins; all the cuvées include 30% to 50% whole bunches with a maximum two-week cuvaison during which there are only two or three pigeage and a little remontage. There is also a shorter barrel maturation; they’re racked in October, blended in tank and bottled in January.’" 89-91 Neal Martin, Vinous

Caroline Morey Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru 2021, 0.75L
Chardonnay from Chassagne Montrachet, Burgundy

"The 2021 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru is almost entirely from Champs Gain and Vergers. It has a clean and precise bouquet, quite focused, not powerful but nicely delineated. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins that frame orchard fruit, bitter lemon and orange rind notes. Good weight and concentration here with quite a persistent and convincing finish. Good potential. This is my inaugural exploration of the wines of Caroline Morey, aka Pierre-Yves Colin’s ‘better half.’ The wines were inherited from her family and hewn from a different cloth, even though they have been made in the same winery in Chassagne since 2017. "A blend of Champgains and Vergers with a bare smidgin of Caillerets and Chaumées. The first two managed a good half crop after successful protection. Clear pale colour, the nose suggests fair weight without giving detail. Really very pretty on the nose, crisp limestone style, slightly saline, fresh and persistent." 91-93 Jasper Morris MW, Inside Burgundy

Chavy-Chouet Meursault les Charmes 2020, 0.75L
Chardonnay from Meursault, Burgundy

"The 2020 Meursault Les Charmes 1er Cru perhaps does not deliver quite the same mineralité or energy as the Les Genevrieres on the nose, maybe a little timid at the moment. The palate is well balanced with a sapid entry, quite saline with hints of oyster shells and fruits de mer towards its composed and persistent finish. Very fine. (Drink between 2024-2040)"93 Points, Neal Martin, Vinous

"Moderately generous wood stops just short of fighting with the ripe aromas of pear and apple compote, citrus confit and white peach. The rich and relatively full-bodied flavors possess an abundance of dry extract that buffers the firm, palate coating and powerful finish. Some patience would be beneficial here as well as this is presently quite compact though not especially austere." 92 Points, Allen Meadows, Burghound

Comte Armand Pommard Clos des Epeneaux 2018, 0.75L
Pinot Noir from Pommard, Burgundy

"One of the best Côte de Beaune reds of the vintage. The four blocks that make up the blend of this justly celebrated Pommard Premier Cru red amount to 5.23ha and range in age between 36 and 100 years' old. Aged in one third new wood, it has spice and tobacco pouch top notes, layers of red berry fruit, fresh acidity and firm, yet granular tannins.(Drink between 2024-2035)" 96 Tim Atkin MW, Decanter

"As usual, I sampled the various constituents of the cuvée before tasting a representative blend of the 2018 Pommard 1er Cru Clos des Epeneaux, and as ever, the whole is superior to the sum of the parts. Wafting from the glass with a deep bouquet of raspberries, cherries, peonies, spices, orange rind, cassis, woodsmoke and espresso roast, the wine is medium to full-bodied, deep and multidimensional, its lively and concentrated core of fruit framed by rich structuring tannins, concluding with a long and sapid finish. This promises to number among the Côte de Beaune's wines of the vintage, and it will be well worth seeking out." 93-95 William Kelley, Wine Advocate

Domaine J.A. Ferret Pouilly-Fuissé 2021, 0.75L
Chardonnay from Pouilly Fuisse, Burgundy

“The 2021 Pouilly-Fuissé was tasted from two parcels, one from granite vinified in concrete, which has a leesy, slightly floral bouquet and a pleasant fatness on the mid-palate. Next is from limestone soils and raised in oak, which seems to have a little more tension and race. A third from Les Vignes Blanches, raised solely in used oak, has a pleasant reduction on the nose, again, with fine tension and good substance towards the finish. Together, these should provide the foundation for a well-crafted and quite complex Pouilly-Fuissé, though production will be severely reduced compared to other vintages - just eight barrels.”  89-91, Neal Martin, Vinous, Jun 2022

Domaine Ponsot Corton Charlemagne 2019, 0.75L
Chardonnay from Corton-Charlemagne, Burgundy

"A mix of Le Charlemagne and Languettes. Very pale lemon colour. The nose shows a little bit of fresh melon and honeysuckle, more floral than heavy, nicely balanced, lemon scented behind, still floral, never heavyweight but with a tensile strength and good length." 92-95 points, Jasper Morris, Inside Burgundy, Oct 2020

"The 2019 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru is broad and textural, offering up aromas of honeyed orchard fruit, freshly baked bread, buttery pastry and white flowers, followed by a full-bodied, layered and enveloping palate that's lively and penetrating, concluding with a saline finish." 93 points, William Kelley, Wine Advocate, Jan 2022

Domaine Taupenot-Merme Saint Romain Blanc 2018, 0.75L
Chardonnay from Saint-Romain, Burgundy

"Pale yellow robe with green hue. Saint Romain has notes of white flowers and toasted bread on the nose when young. When it has been aged, the nose changes to Mirabelle (yellow plums) and light honey. In the mouth, its liveliness, minerality and body make it very approachable when young." Winemaker Notes

Domaine de Villaine Mercurey Les Montots 2020, 0.75L
Pinot Noir from Mercurey, Burgundy

“The domaine produces this inky, dark, super-ripe villages "Mercurey from rented south-facing parcels not far from the premier cru zone in clay soils with high iron content. There is a short week of maceration before the fermentation, with a large proportion of whole clusters before ageing in large casks. The result has a rich cassis fruit, with a bit of spice and a firm, tannic texture with impressive balance and length. Drinking Window 2023 - 2030."  Charles Curtis MW, Decanter, Oct 2021

Domaine de Villaine Rully Blanc 1er Cru "Les Margotes" 2019, 0.75L
Chardonnay from Rully, Burgundy

"Moderately prominent wood can be found on the ripe and very spicy aromas of white fruit confit, orange peel, anise and exotic tea. There is again excellent volume and power to the larger-scaled flavors that brim with sappy dry extract before terminating in a caressing, stylish and complex finale. This intense mineral-driven effort is lovely and a wine that should amply reward mid-term cellaring." 92 Points, Allen Meadows, Burghound

Dominique Cornin Pouilly-Fuisse Les Chevrieres 2020, 0.75L
from Pouilly Fuissé, Burgundy

"The 2020 Pouilly-Fuissé Les Chevrières 1er Cru is the only cuvée that received promotion in this vintage. Raised exclusively in demi-muids, it has a beautifully-defined bouquet with refined orange pith, quince, saffron and light honeysuckle scents. The palate is well-balanced with crisp acidity, very cohesive with good weight, bitter lemon and orange rind towards the persistent finish. Great potential. (Drink between 2024-2038)" 92+ Points, Neal Martin, Vinous

Follin Arbelet Aloxe Corton Les Vercots 2020, 0.75L
Pinot Noir from Aloxe Corton, Burgundy

“Real powerful black purple. Brutally concentrated nose. Much firmer tannins, black fruit, a little less acidity, built more around the tannic structure. Powerful stuff but not unbalanced.” 88-91, Jasper Morris MW

Francois Carillon Bourgogne Cote d'Or Chardonnay 2021, 0.75L
Chardonnay from Bourgogne, Burgundy

“The first to be picked. The wine has not yet fallen clear. Perfectly balanced with a good natural acidity, a light barrel toast, plenty of white fruit, and a good long finish. Succulent more than sumptuous, but certainly very good. Drink from 2024- 2026.” Jasper Morris, Inside Burgundy, Oct 2022

Genot Boulanger Aloxe Corton Clos du Chapitre 2020, 0.75L
from Aloxe Corton, Burgundy

90-93 Jasper Morris MW, Inside Burgundy

"The 2020 Aloxe-Corton Clos de Chapitre 1er Cru has an elegant nose that needed a little coaxing, a mixture of blueberry and black cherry fruit, quite sensual though not powerful. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, taut and fresh, a touch of acidity with an cracked black pepper note that perks up the finish. Drink this over the next 12 to 15 years. (Drink between 2024-2037)" 89-91, Neal Martin, Vinous

Genot Boulanger Clos de Vougeot 2020, 0.75L
Pinot Noir from Vougeot, Burgundy

"The 2020 Clos Vougeot Grand Cru had just a very tiny reduction on the nose (the wine had not been racked, so expected), though there is plenty of fruit here. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins, fine weight, slightly granular in texture with good concentration and structure towards the persistent finish. This has pedigree. (Drink between 2025-2048)" 93-95, Neal Martin, Vinous
