Altos Las Hormigas Malbec Reserve 2021, 0.75L
Malbec from Valle de Uco, Mendoza
“The 2021 Malbec Reserve from Altos Las Hormigas, sourced from Paraje Altamira and Gualtallary in the Uco Valley, boasts a lean, precise character. Planted in chalky soils, it's a rich purple in the glass. The expressive nose presents enticing blueberry, violet, sage and other herb aromas. It has a compact, focused profile on the palate, with chalky tannins that contribute to the lean texture and a refreshing mouthfeel that highlights the wine's taut structure. The long, nuanced finish allows the wine's spare beauty to really come through.” 93, Joaquin Hidalgo, Vinous, Jun 2023

Bernhard Ott Gruner Veltliner Ried Rosenberg 2017, 0.75L
Gruner Veltliner from Wagram, Wagram
"From 60-year-old vines picked on September 29, Ott's Feuersbrunner 2017 Grüner Veltliner Ried Rosenberg 1ÖTW is super clear, precise and fresh on the nose where tropical and stone fruit aromas such as apricots, white peaches, nectarines, papayas and mangos are displayed. Full-bodied, lush and round with very fine acidity and good structure, this is a densely woven, fleshy, super elegant, persistent and very powerful Veltliner with an impressive but slightly massive finish. Super sexy but I tend to prefer the Spiegel from the 2017 vintage. Tasted at Schloss Grafenegg and three weeks later in Vienna, both September 2018." 93 Points, Stephen Reinhardt, Wine Advocate

Bachelet-Monnot Chassagne-Montrachet 2022, 0.75L
Chardonnay from Chassagne-Montrachet, Burgundy
“This had just been bottled and not surprisingly, it was noticeably reduced. Otherwise, there is good verve and solid volume to the succulent and caressing medium weight flavors that also conclude in a moderately austere bone-dry finale. This is presently very compact and a wine that could also use better depth so at least a few years of patience will be necessary”. Allen Meadows, Burghound, Jun 2024

“A more expressive and admirably pure nose freely offers up its array of red pinot fruit, spice and subtle floral nuances. The intense and beautifully delineated medium weight flavors possess a borderline pungent minerality, indeed the mouthfeel is like rolling a small pebbles on one's tongue, all wrapped in a long, firm and youthfully austere finale. Lovely and understated”. 89-91, Allen Meadows, Burghound, Apr 2024

Joseph Colin Puligny-Montrachet Le Trezin 2020, 0.75L
Chardonnay from Puligny Montrachet, Burgundy
"Beautifully layered aromas of smoked green apple, acacia and plenty of citrus elements give way to equally good volume and even more minerality on the impressively long and unusually powerful flavors that possess outstanding depth and persistence for a villages-level wine. This is built on its minerality though ultimately, it's the intricate and finely wrought balance that makes this such a standout. If you can find it, don't hesitate. *Outstanding, Top Value!*" 92 Allen Meadows, Burghound.com, June 2022

“From both En Remilly and Les Cortons. A vague whiff of the exotic is present on the aromas citrus confit, passion fruit and floral wisps along with a phenolic note. Geoffroy Blanc de Rose Rosé de Saignée Extra Brut 2013, 0.75L
Pinot Noir / Chardonnay from Cumières , Champagne
"... Blanc de Rose is superb. Rich, effusive and so wonderfully inviting, the Blanc de Rose checks all the boxes. Sweet floral accents meld into a core of red berry fruit, cinnamon and blood orange. Two years post-disgorgement, the 2013 has an extra kick of bottle complexity that rounds things out nicely." 94 Antonio Galloni, Vinous
"Derived from the 2013 vintage and disgorged in March 2019, the latest release of Geoffroy's NV Extra-Brut Rosé de Saignée Blanc de Rose is showing nicely, offering up scents of crisp apple, rye toast, red berries and cherries. Medium to full-bodied, chiseled and precise, it's seamless and textural, with a notably elegant, fine-boned profile by the standards of this habitually vinous, broad-shouldered cuvée." Jean-Luc Pasquet Grande Champagne Cognac L’Organic 07 NV, 0.75L
Cognac from Cognac Grande Champagne, Cognac
“I always get excited about excellent younger brandies, such as this organic expression from Jean Luc Pasquet, which replaces their previous Tradition Familiale and is slightly younger, with a minimum of seven years, all from the estate in Grande Champagne. Light amber, with an expressive nose of pineapple, licorice and toasted marshmallow, as well as tobacco, which carries all the way through the palate, balanced by pear and grapefruit. Château de Plaisance Anjou La Grande Piece 2021, 0.75L

La Spinetta Il Rosé di Casanova IGT 2024, 0.75L
Sangiovese Blend from Toscana, Tuscany
.“The loose, sandy limestone soils of Casanova where Giorgio Rivetti put his Tuscan roots in 2000 is the perfect terroir for a rosé of Sangiovese. Brief skin contact gives this wine that pale salmon color that blesses the Provençal style, and this was precisely Giorgio’s ambition: to make a rosé in Tuscany that could compete with the greatest in the world. It prizes elegance over impact, finesse over bombast, and above all else a drinkability that might verge on illegal in some states! Year in, year out, I’ll always keep my cellar stocked with a few bottles of this Tuscan gem.” Mark Fornatale, Italian Portfolio Manager Importer Notes

Piaggia Poggio de'Colli Toscana 2020, 0.75L
Cabernet Franc from Carmignano, Tuscany
"The darkly alluring 2020 Cabernet Franc Poggio de' Colli takes its time in the glass, slowly awakening with a dusty mix of red currants, pepper-tinged rose, exotic curries and the slightest touch of animal musk that adds gravitas. This is velvety smooth yet finessed. It's cool-toned in feel with a potent wave of tart raspberry fruits that saturates the palate with savory spice and mineral tones. It leaves a coating of fine tannins and a staining of berry concentration through the finale, tapering off sapid and long, yet perfectly balanced. What a radiant vintage for the Poggio de' Colli, Piaggia's varietal Cabernet Franc. Revisit it in five years to see some real sparks fly. (Drink between 2026-2034)" 97 Eric Guido, Vinous.com

Cuish Mezcal Espadín Agave Angustifolia NV, 0.75L
Mezcal from Santiago Matatlán, Oaxaca
"In case you haven’t heard, we are big-time espadín advocates at Skurnik Wines and Spirits. Since the recent surge in popularity of mezcales made from numerous rare or wild agave, the once noble espadín has fallen into disrepute, often seen as commonplace and basic. This false impression could hardly be more incorrect. Truth is, the sugar-rich espadín has been the lifeblood of mezcal producing families for decades, and is often the most revered variety for its adaptability and generous yield, giving it a central role in social, civic and spiritual events for Oaxacan mezcal communities. Produced by maestro mezcalero Jose Santiago López in Santiago Matatlán, the heart of mezcal in Oaxaca, and rested in glass for two years, this espadín is a beautiful example of the variety’s diversity: full of ebullient aromatics like citrus peel, fresh bark, and sweet red berries. 48% ABV" Importer Notes, Skurnik Wines & Spirits

Amormata Mezcal Ensamble Tradicional NV, 0.75L
Mezcal from Tamaulipas, Tamaulipas
"In the border state of Tamaulipas, agave distillates have a unique history all their own, exemplified by this beautiful ensamble (blend) from maestro Jose Castellanos. Three different agave are used in equal proportion: Agave asperrima and Agave americana, both referred to generically as “Maguey” (Spanish for “agave”), with the smaller Agave univittata, locally dubbed “Amole”. All three are harvested and cooked together in a conical earthen oven; their caramelized juices are then squeezed out using an antique sugarcane press, or “trapiche”, while the fibers are discarded. During U.S. Prohibition, moonshine-style stills were smuggled over the border from Texas and became the favored local method: a traditional pot still is amended with a wooden barrel or “thumper” acting as a condenser between the pot and the coil. The resulting mezcal is wildly unique, with a distinct and delightful funkiness found nowhere else in Mexico." Importer Notes, Skurnik Wines & Spirits

Crystallum Chardonnay The Agnes 2018, 0.75L
Chardonnay from Walker Bay, South Africa
"The 2018 The Agnes comes from five vineyards in Hemel-en-Aarde and Overberg, aged in 228- and 500-liter barrels with 10% new oak. It has a discreet bouquet with subtle pressed flower and shale-like aromas that suggest this is a Chardonnay for cellaring. The palate is wonderfully poised, revealing hints of vanilla and coconut flakes on the entry, countered by a crisp line of acidity and a pleasing tautness on the finish. Excellent." 92 Neal Martin, Vinous.com Nov 2019
“It’s always a pleasure to meet with the indefatigable Peter-Allan Finlayson, whose wines at Crystallum I have been shoveling praise upon since his debut vintage …. [he] was on hand to guide me through his latest releases, although he admitted that he had forgotten to bring one of them. Probably had his mind on other things: the impending 2017 harvest and the fact that now he oversees not just Crystallum but Gabrielskloof, whose wines I have reviewed separately. Hopefully the reviews speak for themselves, merely consolidating everything that I have written before, principally that these are some of South Africa's finest Pinot Noirs and Chardonnays. Attesting to that was the fine performance of his wine when served against the likes of Domaine de la Romanée-Conti of J-L Trapet at a lunch in Cape Town just a few days earlier. I asked about recent developments at Crystallum, and Fin—as he is known in these parts—told me that he had recently bought a piece of his own land for Crystallum, located around two kilometers past Creation, therefore outside the Hemel-en-Aarde region. At the moment he is still buying fruit from growers, but this single hectare of Pinot Noir is a start to obtaining "dirt" that he can call his own. As usual, these wines are highly recommended, although quantities remain frustratingly small.” Neal Martin, Vinous.com 2015/2017

Dominio de Anza/Diego Magaña Bierzo Tinto Selección de Parcelas 2020, 0.75L
Mencía / Bastardo / Garnacha Tintorera from Bierzo, Castilla Y Leon
I found earthier notes and a darker aromas in the 2020 Dominio de Anza Selección de Parcelas, a common thing in the 2020s, perhaps a little reductive. In 2020, part of the wine comes from a new plot on slate soils in the village of San Lorenzo, and perhaps it has some notes reminiscent of a Barolo. The profile of the wine has changed: it's not as aromatic as the 2019, and it has a different texture with more noticeable tannins. This 15% of the wine from a different zone and soil has changed it. It might require more time. 8,900 bottles produced. 94 Luis Gutierrez, Wine Advocate, Jan 2022

Bodegas Albamar 'Pepe Luis' Albariño 2022, 0.75L
Albariño from Rías Baixas, Galicia
"Xurxo Alba is a magician, a winemaker who knows how to tease the best out of old-vine Albariño on granite soils. This comes from five coastal parcels and is another triumph from a brilliant winemaker. Fermented with full malolactic before ageing in German and Austrian foudres, it has struck match, laurel and sea breeze aromas, mouth-watering acidity and lanolin and waxed lemon flavours.” 97, Tim Atkin MW, Dec 2024
"One of the great wines of the region, this has an expressive nose reminiscent of grapefruit and white flowers. The palate is really energetic, driven by texture and acidity. La Rioja Alta Viña Ardanza Reserva 2019, 0.75L
Tempranillo Blend from Rioja Alta, La Rioja
"No 2018 was produced, so after the 2017 I tasted last year, we jumped to the 2019 Viña Ardanza Reserva, produced with a blend of 80% Tempranillo and 20% Garnacha. It fermented destemmed in stainless steel and aged in American oak barrels, 36 months for the Tempranillo and 30 months for Garnacha, and was blended before bottling. 2019 is a very good year for them, a small crop of powerful and concentrated wines when they produced all their brands, an exception. This is spicy, structured, balanced and powerful in this warm year, reaching the customary 14.5% alcohol and keeping a pH of 3.54 and 5.5 grams of acidity. It's still very young and undeveloped, with the classical profile, generous in American oak aromas and flavors that should slowly integrate in the wine with years in bottle. For them, 2019 means a change in Ardanza, less spicy (but still quite spicy, with clove, vanilla and tobacco leaves) and with more fresh fruit from the Garnacha. But the year is a modern version of 2015. 500,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in December 2023. No 2023 or 2024 will be produced either." 94, Luis Gutierrez, Wine Advocate, Feb 2025

"A gorgeous wine, the 2019 Chardonnay Bentrock Vineyard dazzles with its purity and translucence. Crushed rocks, lemon confit, white flowers and mint give the 2019 its brilliant, sculpted personality. Soaring aromatics and bright saline accents build into the regal finish." 96 Antonio Galloni, Vinous

Racines Chardonnay Sta. Rita Hills 2018, 0.75L
Chardonnay from Sta. Rita Hills, California
"Broad but precise in texture, this exudes green and yellow fruits interspersed with salted caramel and fennel. Justin Willett of Tyler Winery partnered with a group of mentors for the Racines label: Étienne de Montille and Brian Sieve of Domaine de Montille, as well as Rodolphe Péters of Champagne Pierre Péters for their still-in-the-works sparkling wine. The Sta. Rita Hills Chardonnay is built around the Wenzlau vineyard and spends 12 months in barrel before being racked to tank for a further six months." - 92 points, Decanter Magazine

Sandhi Pinot Noir Sta. Rita Hills 2022, 0.75L
Pinot Noir from Sta. Rita Hills, California
“The 2022 Pinot Noir Sta. Rita Hills comes from declassified fruit grown at Domaine de la Côte, plus purchased fruit from three other vineyards, including La Rinconada. It's a particularly complex and expressive iteration of Sta. Rita Hills Pinot Noir from Sandhi. It has an alluring perfume of raspberry, strawberry, tea leaves, tobacco, potpourri and gravel dust, and it reveals botanical undertones as it spends time in the glass. The light-bodied palate has a deep core of spicy, herbal fruit, a frame of chalky tannins, energetic acidity and a long, layered finish.” 94, Erin Brooks, Wine Advocate, Dec 2023

Evening Land Vineyards Chardonnay Seven Springs Vineyard 2022, 0.75L
Chardonnay from Eola-Amity Hills, Oregon
"The Seven Springs Chardonnay from Evening Land is one of the wines that has tipped the Eola-Amity Hills appellation towards Chardonnay. This wine comes from a unique section of the estate site in their south block. Aromas of crushed chalk, dried chamomile and saline seaspray minerality frame this wine. The palate is a hint phenolic, with rich ripe nectarine flesh, smoky grilled lemon peel and a savoury edge that comes from a finish of smoky citrus." 94, Clive Pursehouse, Decanter, Jul 2024
