Zorzal Malbec Eggo Tinto de Tiza 2017, 0.75L
Malbec from Tupungato, Mendoza

"The mouthfeel of the 2017 Eggo Tinto de Tiza was like biting into a piece of chalk ("tiza" is the Spanish word for chalk), the texture provided by the limestone-rich soils from Gualtallary, especially in the higher part of this large region. This wine is not about the varieties (it's a blend to start with) but about the place, the soils, the local vegetation, the austerity and the wilderness. 33,000 bottles. It was bottled in January 2018." 94 Points, Luis Guiterrez, Wine Advocate

Stagard Kremstal Riesling Steiner Braunsdorfer 2017, 0.75L
Riesling from Niederösterreich, Kremstal

The 2017 Ried Braunsdorfer is clear, pure, deep and stony on the nose, with perfectly ripe fruit with notes of stone fruits. On the palate, this is a full-bodied, dense, round, complex and enormously salty but also tender Riesling with great power, tension and vital length. This is an enormously expressive but fine and crunchy Riesling with great finesse and delicate tension. A great but delicate wine. 96 Points, Stephan Reinhardt, Wine Advocate

Nikolaihof Steiner Hund Riesling 2017, 0.75L
Riesling from Wachau, Niederösterreich

"Another stunning Steiner Hund dry riesling from Nikolaihof! Deep and complex nose with a ton of flint, but also crushed-rock, quince and pomelo aromas. For the very warm vintage this is astonishingly cool and restrained, with beautiful wet-stone minerality intertwined with the elegant acidity. Very long, silky finish. From biodynamically grown grapes with Demeter certification. Drink or hold." 95 Points, James Suckling. JamesSuckling.com

Bernhard Ott Gruner Veltliner Ried Rosenberg 2017, 0.75L
Gruner Veltliner from Wagram, Wagram

"From 60-year-old vines picked on September 29, Ott's Feuersbrunner 2017 Grüner Veltliner Ried Rosenberg 1ÖTW is super clear, precise and fresh on the nose where tropical and stone fruit aromas such as apricots, white peaches, nectarines, papayas and mangos are displayed. Full-bodied, lush and round with very fine acidity and good structure, this is a densely woven, fleshy, super elegant, persistent and very powerful Veltliner with an impressive but slightly massive finish. Super sexy but I tend to prefer the Spiegel from the 2017 vintage. Tasted at Schloss Grafenegg and three weeks later in Vienna, both September 2018." 93 Points, Stephen Reinhardt, Wine Advocate

Branaire Ducru 2017, 0.75L
Cabernet Sauvignon / Merlot / Cabernet Franc / Petit Verdot from St. Julien, Bordeaux

"The 2017 Branaire-Ducru is all class and finesse. Bright and focused, the 2017 speaks with a clear, well-articulated voice. I especially like the energy here. Soft and understated in the classic Branaire style, the 2017 offers notes of red and purplish fruit intermingled with expressive floral and spice notes. The 2017 is such a pretty Saint-Julien. Tasted two times. (Drink between 2025-2037)" 94 Points, Antonio Galloni, Vinous

Chateau Leoville-Barton 2017, 0.75L
Cabernet Sauvignon / Merlot / Cabernet Franc from St. Julien, Bordeaux

"Léoville-Barton is one of the very few wines, from any appellation, that combines power and finesse with such grace in 2017. Rich, deep and wonderfully expressive, the 2017 has so much offer. The high percentage of Cabernet Sauvignon comes through loud and clear. Inky dark, fruit, game, spice, mint, licorice and lavender all build in a wine of regal elegance and head spinning beauty. For its combination of quality and price, Léoville-Barton remains one the most consumer-friendly wines of the Left Bank. The blend is 93% Cabernet Sauvignon and 7% Merlot. The September rains were especially challenging for the Merlot and Cabernet Franc. As a result, Cabernet is pushed up in the blend, while there is no Franc at all. Drink: 2025-2047." 96 Antonio Galloni, Vinous.com, Mar 2020

Haut Batailley 2017, 0.75L
from Pauillac, Bordeaux

"The 2017 Haut-Batailley is powerful, dark and racy. Dark cherry, gravel, smoke, menthol, licorice and spice all pulse with notable energy and tons of Cabernet Sauvignon savoriness. For such a big wine, Haut-Batailley has quite a bit of nuance, but it is the sense of vibrancy here that is compelling. (Drink between 2022-2042)" 94 Points, Neal Martin, Vinous

Haut-Bailly 2017, 0.75L
Cabernet Sauvignon / Cabernet Franc / Merlot / Petit Verdot from Pessac Leognan, Bordeaux

"The 2017 Haut-Bailly is racy and polished to the core, with no hard edges and just exceptional beauty. Dark cherry, plum, chocolate, spice, new leather, incense, and grilled herb overtones infuse the 2017 with striking layers of nuance, but it is the wine's feel that really elevates it into the realm of Pessac-Léognan's best. The 2017 is an elegant and exceptionally understated Haut-Bailly." Antonio Galloni, Vinous.com, Mar 2020

Benjamin Leroux Vosne-Romanée 2017, 0.75L
Pinot Noir from Vosne Romanee, Burgundy

"Ben Leroux has produced a series of textbook wines in 2017, with clear differences between the terroirs and villages. This sees two-thirds whole-bunch fruit - the portion that comes from the Aux Ravioles lieu-dit close to the border with Nuits-St-Georges is destemmed - and is matured in one-third new oak. It's brimming with sappy, juicy red berry flavours and beguiling sweetness." 92 Tim Atkin MW, Decanter

"The 2017 Vosne-Romanée Village, one of Leroux’s largest cuvées at 31 barrels, a large proportion sourced from Flagey-Echézeaux, has a fragrant bouquet with white flowers complementing the red cherry and crushed strawberry fruit. The medium-bodied palate displays supple tannin, a fine bead of acidity, silky-smooth texture and a tart red cherry and orange peel finish that is quite spicy on the aftertaste. Good potential. Comte Armand Pommard Clos des Epeneaux 2017, 0.75L
Pinot Noir from Pommard, Burgundy

"The 2017 Pommard 1er Cru Clos des Epeneaux has gained in depth and dimension with élevage and showed very well from bottle, unfurling in the glass with an expressive, youthfully fruit-driven bouquet of raspberries, cherries, candied peel and rose petals, framed by a subtle touch of new oak. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, velvety and fleshy, with succulent acids and elegant tannins. While this isn't as rich, muscular or gourmand as the 2018, it's an immensely seductive wine that will drink well comparatively young—though readers should still plan on exercising at least a decade's patience." 94 Points, William Kelley, Wine Advocate

Denis Jeandeau Vire-Clesse 2017, 0.75L
Chardonnay from Viré-Clessé, Burgundy

"Aromas of citrus blossom, fresh peach, pears and warm pastry introduce Jeandeau's 2017 Viré-Clessé, a medium to full-bodied, lively and precise wine that's elegantly textural but decidedly incisive by the standards of the appellation. With time in the glass, musky nuances emerge, hinting at the presence of some muscaté selections of Chardonnay; Jeandeau opts to raise these in tank, while the remaining two-thirds are vinified in barrel. Since he didn't produce his cuvée "Hors de Temps" this year, all the juice went into this, the regular cuvée." 92 William Kelley, Wine Advocate

Georges Laval Champagne Cumieres Les Hautes Chevres Brut Nature 2017, 0.750L
Pinot Meunier / Pinot Noir from Cumières, Champagne

"It is hard to believe that Vincent Laval’s bottling from les Hautes Chèvres made the switch from very old vine pinot noir after the 2009 vintage to (not quite so) old vine pinot meunier in 2010 and never missed a beat in terms of quality and aging potential. The 2017 is the eighth harvest of pinot meunier composition for this beautiful cuvée and it is another gorgeous young wine. The bouquet is bright, pure and complex, offering up scents of tangerine, apple, brioche, chalky soil tones, lavender, acacia blossoms and just a hint of oak in the upper register. On the palate the wine is pure, full-bodied, crisp and deep at the core, with lovely transparency and grip, pinpoint bubbles, precise focus, seamless balance and a very, very long, refined and complex finish. Great, great juice." 96 John Gilman, View From The Cellar

Clos Saint-Joseph Côtes de Provence Syrah 2017, 0.75L
Syrah from Côtes de Provence, Provence

"While the name of the domaine honors Roch’s great-grandfather, it also brings to mind the great northern Rhône appellation Saint-Joseph. The association with fine cool-climate Syrah is not unwarranted: the grape shows a special affinity to the extreme environment of this less-traveled side of Provence, so much that Roch chose to spotlight it with a special cuvée. Thick, dense, chewy tannins frame this brawny red jam-packed with spice and savory goodness. It belongs in your cellar somewhere between the Bandols and the Hermitages."  Anthony Lynch, Kermit Lynch Wine Merchant

Clos Saint-Joseph I.G.P. Méditerranée Rouge 2017, 0.75L
Syrah / Grenache / Mourvèdre / Cabernet Sauvignon from Méditérranée, Provence

"In 2017, a hail storm destroyed much of Clos Saint Joseph’s red grapes. Half of this bottling comes from grapes from Clos Saint Joseph’s vines. The other half comes from donations of grapes from a large group of Provence’s top growers (an organization called Rouge Provence, intended to create solidarity among growers and promote Provence’s historic red wines) including Domaine Tempier, Domaine Hauvette, and Domaine de la Tour du Bon. All these grapes come from different AOCs (Bandol, Coteaux de Baux, Coteaux d’Aix, Coteaux Varois, Côtes de Provence), which is why the wine’s designation is I.G.P Méditerranée instead of Côtes de Provence."  Importer Notes, Kermit Lynch Wine Merchant

Bernard Levet Côte-Rôtie 2017, 1.5L
Syrah from Côte Rôtie, Rhône

"The 2017 Côte Rôtie Amethyste looks to be a brilliant wine in the making and might just surpass the 2016. This smoky, meaty effort offers lots of black fruits, violets, Asian spice, and Peking duck-like notes. . ." 92-94 Jeb Dunnuck

"Deep, glistening violet. Intensely perfumed, spice-tinged aromas of black raspberry, cherry liqueur and candied violet are complemented by a smoky mineral quality. Juicy and focused on the palate, offering bitter cherry, dark berry and exotic spice flavors that turn sweeter on the back half. Shows excellent definition and spicy lift on the long, energetic finish, which is framed by smooth, harmonious tannins. Made with 70% whole clusters. " 93 Josh Raynolds, Vinous

Donnhoff Pinot Brut 2017, 0.75L
Pinot Noir from Nahe, Nahe

"Famous, steeply sloping vineyard in a small side valley of the middle section of the Nahe River. The “Höllenpfad” (“Path to Hell”) name is an old one, likely referencing both the vineyard‘s steep slope as well as the unique color of the red sandstone. The surrounding landscape is bathed daily in the rich, warm light of the evening sun as it reflects off the hillside‘s distinctive red soil. It‘s also not hard to imagine that the word „Hell“ might have been uttered by many a winegrower after a particularly laborious day on these steep slopes. The weathered warm sandstone of the Rotliegend strata lends the wines their inimitable character. Grapes grown here tend to be very small with intense, nuanced aromas; the resulting wines are elegant with a spicy mineral fruit and excellent aging potential." Importer Notes

Ronco Severo Artiul Merlot Riserva Friuli Colli Orientali 2017, 0.75L
Merlot from Colli Orientali del Friuli, Friuli Venezia Giulia

"The dark and spicy 2017 Artïûl wafts up with balsam herbs, allspice and cloves complementing black cherry and hints of cocoa. This enters the palate with prominence through it's mineral-tinged red berries that saturate but also energized by brisk acids. It displays tremendous length with grippy tannin yet also remains primary and intense. Hold on to your seat today with this high-test, varietal Merlot, yet time should mellow it out and unlock further depths." 93 Eric Guido, Vinous

"In the words of proprietor/winemaker Stefano Novello: 'This is perhaps my best wine. Artïûl is the name, in Friulano, given to the newly born grass that grows in the fields after the hay has been collected. G. D. Vajra Barolo Ravera 2017, 0.75L
Nebbiolo from Barolo, Piedmont

"Lifted and herbaceous, the 2017 Barolo Ravera is noted by aromas of fresh pine, ripe red cherry, licorice, and menthol. The palate has depth without weight and is noted by ripe raspberry fruit, apricot, and black tea. The G.D. Vajra estate is based within the commune of Barolo, where Giuseppe and Aldo Vajra helm the winemaking responsibilities. Giuseppe, who took more of a leadership role in 2008, has been instrumental in continuing to develop the family estate, while Isonzo Vajra leads in vineyard management. Most recently they have completed the expansion of their cellar space, and they are also releasing their wines a touch later to allow the additional time in bottle to soften any harsh edges. As of the 2019 vintage, both the G.D.Vajra and Luigi Baudana estates are certified organic." 96 Audrey Frick, JebDunnuck.com

"The 2017 Barolo Ravera is gorgeous right out of the gate. I am so impressed with its depth and pedigree. Rose petal, sweet red berry fruit, lavender, spice and dried herbs are all finely delineated in a Barolo of tremendous presence. Orange peel, cinnamon and cedar develop later, adding shades of dimension. Time in the glass brings out the wine's stature and power. The 2017 is going to be fascinating to follow. G.D. Vajra Barolo Coste Di Rose 2017, 0.75L
Nebbiolo from Barolo, Piedmont

"With fruit from higher-elevation vineyards in the village of Barolo, the 2017 Barolo Coste di Rose is quite elegantly downplayed and fragile. The wine reveals wild berry, cassis and lots of blue flower or lilac. A pretty mineral note recalls crushed limestone and is present through the long and polished mouthfeel. This wine overperforms, considering the challenges of this vintage that saw extreme weather, from spring frost to scorching summer temperatures. These vineyard sites performed better than most. Some 4,800 bottles were released." 94 Monica Larner, Wine Advocate

"The 2017 Barolo Coste di Rose has bright aromatics of candied raspberry, apricot, anise, and dusty earth. The palate is medium-bodied, with fine tannins and notes of dried wild strawberry, fresh roses, and mineral-rich earth. This wine is open and inviting, while maintaining freshness and drive. Drink 2024-2040.<!--more-->The G.D. Vajra estate is based within the commune of Barolo, where Giuseppe and Aldo Vajra helm the winemaking responsibilities. "The 2017 Barolo Coste di Rose is pretty, supple and inviting. Some of the tannins need to resolve, but this is a young Barolo after all. The Coste di Rose doesn't have the sensuality of the Albe or the pedigree of the Viole, but it nevertheless has so much to give. Crushed flowers, sweet red berry fruit, mint, crushed rocks and sage are some of the many notes that linger. Luigi Baudana Barolo Cerretta 2017, 0.75L
Nebbiolo from Barolo, Piedmont

"A sweet perfume lifts from the 2017 Barolo Cerretta, with fresh violets, kirsch, cinnamon, and sage. The palate is energetic with forward fruit through the mid-palate with persistence, with tea leaf and present but well-integrated tannins. The Cerretta displays the elegance that is possible within the 2017 vintage. Drink 2022-2040. Since 2009, Luigi Baudana has been under the operation and ownership of the G.D. Vajra estate from Barolo. As with the Vajra estate, Giuseppe and Aldo manage the winemaking process, along with Giuseppe’s brother Isidoro, the vineyard manager. They continue to consult with Luigi for his understanding of the land and experience. They utilize primarily 15- to 17-hectoliter Slavonian barrels for aging, as the size of the cellar dictates. For the Barolo del Comune di Serralunga d'Alba bottling, selections are made from the crus of Baudana, Cerretta, and Costabella. With the 2019 vintage, they are now certified organic. (Drink between 2022-2040)" 96 Audrey Frick, JebDunnuck.com

"A dark, somber wine, the 2017 Barolo Cerretta shows the more potent, brooding side of Serralunga. Black cherry, gravel, smoke, cured meats, cloves and menthol add to an impression of virile intensity and pure power. Ciacci Piccolomini d`Aragona Brunello di Montalcino 2017, 0.75L
Sangiovese from Brunello di Montalcino, Tuscany

"Aromas of cedar, berry, mushroom and burnt orange follow through to a full body with medium, chewy tannins and a fluid, flavorful finish. Not overdone." 93 Points, James Suckling, JamesSukling.com

"Generous, layered and rich, the Ciacci Piccolomini d'Aragona 2017 Brunello di Montalcino shows the generous fruit and deep layering that identifies this vintage . . . . This edition (with 69,000 bottles made) shows a bright note of sweet cherry that features strongly both on the bouquet and the palate. The wine shows lots of soft fruit with almond, spice and wild rose. From a hot and dry vintage . . . . The Ciacci Piccolomini d'Aragona estate is located in a rather cool location with south-facing vines and well-draining galestro soils on the back side of Castelbuovo dell'Abate. I always like to think of this tiny hilltop hamlet as the place where the day's sunbeams shine in Montalcino before sunset. Il Marroneto Brunello di Montalcino 2017, 0.75L
Sangiovese from Brunello di Montalcino, Tuscany

"Alessandro Mori's Il Marroneto 2017 Brunello di Montalcino opens to a very distinguished and unique character that makes this wine easy to recognize in a lineup of Brunello. This hot and dry growing season made for more powerful aromas and sometimes riper flavors in the appellation, generally speaking. But this magically lean-bodied wine follows its own path, and the warmth of the summer seems to have cemented almost exotic aromas of bay leaf, crushed flower, campfire ash and iron ore. The wine is exceedingly silky and elegant, but instead of opulence, you get streamlined tension accompanied by lifted, immediate aromas of fruit, flowers and light spice." 95 Points, Monica Larner, Wine Advocate

"The ladies of Le Potazzine make a terrific bottle of Brunello, and their high-elevation vineyards are especially important in maintaining freshness in a scorching-hot vintage such as this. The 2017 Brunello di Montalcino offers a pretty succession of wild berry, cherry and plum aromas, along with light spice, crushed flowers and perfumed potting soil. This wine is also distinguished by a touch of bay leaf and maybe a warmer note of cured tobacco as well. This is an impressive effort (with 16,000 bottles released)." 95 Points, Monica Larner, Wine Advocate

Le Ragnaie Brunello di Montalcino 2017, 0.75L
Sangiovese from Brunello di Montalcino, Tuscany

"The Le Ragnaie 2017 Brunello di Montalcino is a delicate and graceful expression that unfolds carefully to reveal wild berry, dried lilac and pretty earthy tones. This 26,000-bottle release fits into that enviable school of Brunello that prioritizes tradition, elegance and purity. These are the basic traits of a great Sangiovese, but they are not easily achieved by all. Le Ragnaie's identity is deeply linked with these efforts. Lifted notes of dried mint or Mediterranean herb appear on the close." 94 Points, Monica Larner, Wine Advocate

Le Ragnaie Brunello di Montalcino Casanovina Montosoli 2017, 0.75L
Sangiovese from Brunello di Montalcino, Tuscany

"This is one of three black-label special selections made by Le Ragnaie. The 2017 Brunello di Montalcino Casanovina Montosoli has a tonic and bright character with dark fruit flavors, blackcurrant and tarry smoke. The wine feels tightly knit and compact, but it takes on more volume and momentum, especially as it hits the palate. In fact, it ends on a long and polished note with some crushed limestone or dusty mineral. Production is limited to 2,900 bottles." 95 Points, Monica Larner, Wine Advocate

Le Ragnaie Brunello di Montalcino Passo Del Lume Spento 2017, 0.75L
Sangiovese from Brunello di Montalcino, Tuscany

"The Le Ragnaie 2017 Brunello di Montalcino Passo del Lume Spento (with 3,020 bottles made) sees its fruit sourced from one of the highest places in the appellation, or the "pass of the extinguished lantern," as the wine's name translates into English. It is part of a broader trend that Montalcino vintners seem to be looking for cooler, high-altitude growing sites for Sangiovese. This wine demonstrates without a doubt that elevation is key in obtaining elegance in the warm years. This Brunello is particularly bright, punchy and energetic. It is one of the stars of this report." 96+ Points, Monica Larner, Wine Advocate

Niepoort Bairrada Branco Vinhas Velhas 2017, 0.75L
Bical / Maria Gomes from Cantanhede, Bairrada

"Light lemon in colour, with its usual vibrant, expressive but austere character, this wine really emphasises its mineral notes from the calcareous soils, harmonising with aromas of fresh herbs, limes and white blossoms. The austere and mineral-driven character of the Bical grape variety is complemented by the expressivity of the Maria Gomes grapes. On the palate, an impressive lightness offers, nevertheless, good body and plenty of grip. Its acidity and saline notes lift this wine, lending it a unique character full of freshness and elegance. The Vinhas Velhas is a linear, direct wine with an austere and profoundly mineral finish. This serious, extraordinary white wine should be enjoyed in a Burgundy glass." Producer Notes

Fuentes del Silencio Las Jaras 2017, 0.75L
Mencía / Prieto Picudo / Alicante Bouschet from Castilla y León, Castilla y León

"Fuentes del Silencio's Las Jaras is a bombshell for the price. Located in northwestern Spain, at the eastern foothills of the Galician mountains, this blend made from 80 to 150-year-old Prieto Picudo, Mencía and Alicante Bouschet vines makes for a wine of unusual depth, concentration and surprising freshness. At an altitude of more than 2,600 feet, the growing season is long and results in a wine of wonderful tension, texture and freshness. Once the cork is pulled, the wine immediately begins its vertical climb and builds from one strength to the next, day after day. It seems that this wine can easily last for a week after being opened and still deliver freshness and bright fruit. Those who have tasted this wine are always dumbfounded by its level of depth for the price." Importer Notes, The Source

Vinedos del Jorco Las Enebradas Navalgordo 2017, 0.75L
Grenache from Paraje del Jorco, Castilla y León

"I was really looking forward to the 2017 Las Enebradas, because the first vintage, 2016, was the revelation of my last review of the zone of Gredos. I was quite surprised because the profile is very different: the wine has a lot more color and up to 2% more alcohol. Nacho Jiménez, one of the partners, explained that the profile of the 2016 vintage was exceptional and hard to replicate, as yields were higher and it rained just before they picked the grapes, so the wine is a lot lighter. 2017 was very different, a lot warmer and with lower yields, and the grapes delivered a concentrated juice with a lot more color, tannin and alcohol. It has a more Mediterranean profile, more in line with the rest of the wines. This fermented with 50% full clusters and temperature control and matured in one 500-liter oak barrel. Despite the higher ripeness and the headier character, the wines from Navatalgordo have a different texture and fine thread, the finesse of a cooler place and sandy soils at higher altitude (even if the vines are south-facing here), and you see it when tasting this next to the wines from Cebreros. It's more elegant and fresher. 570 bottles were filled in August 2019." 93 Luis Gutiérrez, Wine Advocate

Arnot-Roberts Syrah Clary Ranch 2017, 0.75L
Syrah from Sonoma Coast, California

"The 2017 Syrah Clary Ranch is striking. Deep and resonant on the palate, the 2017 has so much to say. Some of the angular edges and intense savoriness the Clary Ranch can show have been soften by the intense heat of the year. Silky, fine tannins wrap around a core of dark cherry, plum, lavender, spice and pepper. A Syrah of power and structural intensity, the Clary Ranch is incredibly distinctive, and that is in a lineup in which many of the wines are exceptional. Two thousand-seventeen is a superb vintage for the Clary Ranch Syrah." 96 Points Antonio Galloni, Vinous

Dehlinger Pinot Noir Altamont 2017, 0.75L
Pinot Noir from Russian River Valley, California

"The 2017 Pinot Noir Altamont is a wine of real breadth. Dark cherry, plum, lavender, spice and hard candy all flesh out in the glass. Joseph Swan Pinot Noir Cuvée de Trois 2017, 0.75L
Pinot Noir from Russian River Valley, California

"As always, a blend of Swan’s vineyard designated Pinot Noir. Every Pinot Noir is made to be the best it can be with
a barrel-by-barrel selection process just before bottling. As opposed to the vineyard wines, which, by their very nature are idiosyncratic, the attempt with this wine is to make one that represents the whole of the Russian River Valley." Winery Notes

The Joy Fantastic Syrah 2017, 0.75L
Syrah from Sta. Rita Hills, California

"From the winery's new estate vineyard named after the Prince album, this bottling shows plenty of green peppercorn, green olive and singed tobacco on the nose alongside cracked black pepper, lamb crust and muddy hole. The savory display on the palate is real, ranging from Kalamata olive to underripe blackberry. More vine age will boost texture." 93 Points Matt Kettmann, Wine Enthusiast

Broadley Vineyards Pinot Noir Estate Jessica 2017, 0.75L
Pinot Noir from Willamette Valley, Oregon

"Brilliant red. Ripe red fruit, floral, spice and sassafras aromas show sharp definition and take on a smoky aspect as the wine opens up. Juicy and focused on the palate, offering concentrated yet lithe cherry cola and raspberry flavors that spread out steadily through the midpalate. Finishes very long and spicy, with a repeating floral note and strong, spicy lift. One-third new French oak. (Drink between 2022-2029)" 93 Points, Josh Raynolds, Vinous

Andrew Will Champoux Vineyard 2017, 0.75L
Merlot / Cabernet Franc / Cabernet Sauvignon from Horse Heaven Hills, Washington

"Deep ruby with purple highlights, the 2017 Champoux Vineyard is a stunning success with elegance and complexity bursting at the seams. Seductive blackberry essence, dusty plum skin, dark cherries and cassis waft out of the glass with delicate dusty floral tones, dried tobacco and graphite nuances. Medium to full-bodied, the wine is balanced with rich complexity and an elegant mineral tension before offering up a clearly delineated fruit frame compounded by focus, precision and finesse. At present, the wine has a pleasingly tannic edge and finishes with a mineral tension and red-fruited succulence that continue to evolve in the mouth. Simply stellar!" 95 Anthony Mueller, Wine Advocate

"Bright ruby-red. Deep, musky, balsamic scents of currant, blackberry, cannabis, spices and dark chocolate; slightly high-toned. Nicely high-pitched yet plush and suave on the palate, conveying serious energy and vinosity to its currant, dark raspberry, spice, cocoa and menthol flavors. Real nobility of texture here, along with a captivating sweetness and a repeating high-toned suggestion. Builds slowly and lingers long on the finish, with the firm but refined tannins fully supported by fruit. Classy juice, especially considering the sizable Merlot percentage. And more sweet than savory." 93 Stephen Tanzer, Oct 2020

"The 2017 Champoux Vineyard is another wine from this team that shows the more elegant, pure, balanced style of the vintage beautifully. Fabulous notes of crème de cassis, candied violets, spice, and unsmoked tobacco all flow to a medium to full-bodied Bordeaux blend that has silky tannins and no hard edges. As with the Ciel Du Cheval, it’s going to be better with 2-3 years of bottle age and should cruise for two decades in cold cellars." 94 Jeb Dunnuck, JebDunnuck.com

Andrew Will Proprietary Red Ciel du Cheval 2017, 0.75L
Merlot / Cabernet Franc from Red Mountain, Washington

"Weighing in at 14.8% alcohol, the 2017 Red Wine Ciel du Cheval blends equal parts Merlot and Cabernet Franc from this outstanding site on Red Mountain. On the nose, it develops creosote tones alongside red florals, wintergreen, cigar ash and suggestions of Asian spices that all take shape in the glass. The palate is seamless and soft, delivering rich red and dark fruit flavors alongside black licorice and a hint of menthol. Glorious to consume now, the 2017 Ciel du Cheval could easily be a 20-year wine." 95 Owen Bargreen, Vinous

"Dark ruby in color, the 2017 Ciel du Cheval Vineyard is dark-fruited with juicy black plum, blackberry essence and dark cherry with hints of currants and cassis. Soft aromas of red flowers and pencil shavings waft with a dusty tension. Medium to full-bodied, the wine shows precision with an elegant frame and sturdy tannins, ending with a long-lingering, mineral finish with high-tone red fruits of dark, dusty cherry skin and red plum skin. This will drink fantastically for the next decade, but it won't do you wrong if you open a bottle tomorrow. Bravo!" 94 Anthony Mueller, Wine Advocate
