Altos las Hormigas Appellation Paraje Altamira Malbec 2019 2019, 0.75L
Malbec from Altamira, Mendoza
"The 2019 Malbec Appellation Paraje Altamira is made with grapes from the eponymous Uco Valley GI and aged for 18 months in untoasted foudres. A rich violet in hue. The subtle, clean and austere nose offers notes of plum and cherry along with violet and herb aromas against a cedar backdrop. In the mouth, the core is provided by a juicy freshness while the texture is chalky. A little reactive grip makes for a compact, nimble and linear flow that guarantees it will grow in the bottle. Fresh grapes appear at the back of the throat enhanced by the tannins. Keep for a while before drinking to allow its subtle character to develop properly." 94 Points,

Lagarde Primeras Vinas Malbec Luján de Cuyo 2018, 0.75L
Malbec from Mendoza, Mendoza
"The 2018 Primeras Viñas Malbec Luján de Cuyo displays a bright and dark ruby color and a very classical and balanced profile, reflecting a cooler year. The wine shows a bit tight and reticent, but there's phenomenal balance and perfectly integrated oak from a soft vinification and slow aging of 16 to 18 months in French oak barrels. It's varietal, elegant and with the depth and clout of the old vines (from 1906 and 1930)." 94 Points, Luis Guiterrez, Wine Advocate

Zorzal Malbec Eggo Tinto de Tiza 2017, 0.75L
Malbec from Tupungato, Mendoza
"The mouthfeel of the 2017 Eggo Tinto de Tiza was like biting into a piece of chalk ("tiza" is the Spanish word for chalk), the texture provided by the limestone-rich soils from Gualtallary, especially in the higher part of this large region. This wine is not about the varieties (it's a blend to start with) but about the place, the soils, the local vegetation, the austerity and the wilderness. 33,000 bottles. It was bottled in January 2018." 94 Points, Luis Guiterrez, Wine Advocate

Pichler-Krutzler Riesling In der Wand 2019, 0.75L
Riesling from Wachau, Niederösterreich
"A hint of creaminess creeps deliciously into the orange zest notes on the nose. The palate comes on light feet but is vibrant with zesty notes of ripe orange and Amalfi lemon. The body is slender but concentrated, almost fizzing with ripe and utterly fresh zestiness. The finish is clean, taut and dry with lasting, mouthwatering citrus. . ." 94 Points Anne Krebiehl MW, Wine Enthusiast

Alex Foillard Cote de Brouilly 2019 2019, 0.75L
Gamay from Côte de Brouilly, Beaujolais
"Light, vivid ruby. Vibrant red fruit, floral and spice qualities on the mineral-inflected nose take on suggestions of incense and licorice as the wine stretches out. Sappy, incisive and pure, offering palate-staining raspberry, bitter cherry, floral pastille and rhubarb flavors that show a compelling blend of depth and vivacity. Closes very long and subtly chewy, with reverberating florality and polished tannins that come in late. That Foillard magic is clearly a hereditary thing." 94 points, Josh Raynolds, Vinous

Gamay from Morgon, Beaujolais
"Derived from older vines in rockier soils, the 2019 Morgon Bellevue Cailloux is even more sensuous and textural than its Sable counterpart. Mingling notions of raspberries and plums with hints of rose petals and spices, it's medium to full-bodied, velvety and enveloping, its powdery tannins almost entirely cloaked in succulent, perfumed fruit." 94 Points William Kelley, The Wine Advocate

Branaire Ducru 2017, 0.75L
Cabernet Sauvignon / Merlot / Cabernet Franc / Petit Verdot from St. Julien, Bordeaux
"The 2017 Branaire-Ducru is all class and finesse. Bright and focused, the 2017 speaks with a clear, well-articulated voice. I especially like the energy here. Soft and understated in the classic Branaire style, the 2017 offers notes of red and purplish fruit intermingled with expressive floral and spice notes. The 2017 is such a pretty Saint-Julien. "The 2017 Haut-Batailley is powerful, dark and racy. Dark cherry, gravel, smoke, menthol, licorice and spice all pulse with notable energy and tons of Cabernet Sauvignon savoriness. For such a big wine, Haut-Batailley has quite a bit of nuance, but it is the sense of vibrancy here that is compelling. (Drink between 2022-2042)" 94 Points, Neal Martin, Vinous

Lynch-Bages 2008, 0.75L
Cabernet Sauvignon / Petit Verdot / Merlot / Cabernet Franc from Pauillac, Bordeaux
"The 2008 Lynch Bages is brilliant stuff as well as a textbook Pauillac. Revealing a still youthful ruby/purple color as well as impressive notes of graphite, cedar pencil, cassis, tobacco, and obvious minerality, it hits the palate with medium to full-bodied richness, polished tannins, and a concentrated, layered texture. Jean-Charles Cazes described the vintage as late and great for Cabernet Sauvignon, and this beauty has classic Cabernet flair in spades. Powerful yet also fresh and elegant, it benefits from a decant and will continue drinking beautifully for another 20-30 years." 94 Jeb Dunnuck

Armand Heitz Chevalier Montrachet 2020, 0.75L
Chardonnay from Puligny Montrachet, Burgundy
"This is aromatically quite similar to the Perrières with its nose of matchstick, mineral reduction and markedly floral scents that are trimmed in just enough wood to remark upon. The wonderfully refined and intense medium weight flavors possess only average density though the bone-dry, firm, youthfully austere and stony finish displays superb length. Note well that at least some patience will be necessary as this is presently very tightly wound." 94 Points, Allen Meadows, Burghound

Comte Armand Pommard Clos des Epeneaux 2017, 0.75L
Pinot Noir from Pommard, Burgundy
"The 2017 Pommard 1er Cru Clos des Epeneaux has gained in depth and dimension with élevage and showed very well from bottle, unfurling in the glass with an expressive, youthfully fruit-driven bouquet of raspberries, cherries, candied peel and rose petals, framed by a subtle touch of new oak. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, velvety and fleshy, with succulent acids and elegant tannins. While this isn't as rich, muscular or gourmand as the 2018, it's an immensely seductive wine that will drink well comparatively young—though readers should still plan on exercising at least a decade's patience." 94 Points, William Kelley, Wine Advocate

Laurent Ponsot Charmes-Chambertin Cuvee du Cypres 2019, 0.75L
Pinot Noir from Cote de Nuits, Burgundy
"From a parcel located in Charmes, down-slope from Chambertin, this is slightly backwards at present, with a bit of reduction, but behind these aromas there is plenty of sumptuous, bright red berry fruit. The texture is firm and fresh, with the grip and intensity to age well. Although it does not have the intensity or persistence of the Chambertin, it resembles it in its vibrant elegance and balance." 94 points, Decanter Magazine, Oct 2020
"Here the ripe and fresh nose derives more from the red side of the fruit spectrum while adding nuances of cherry liqueur, warm earth and underbrush. There is very good detail and subtle minerality to the dense and relatively muscular big-bodied flavors that deliver fine length on the balanced finale. This very firm effort will need to add depth over time to achieve the upper end of my projected range." 91-93 points, Allen Meadows, Burghound, Jan 2021

Louis Michel Chablis Montée de Tonnerre 2018, 0.75L
Chardonnay from Chablis, Burgundy
"Not surprisingly, the 2018 Montée de Tonnerre is one of the more structured premier crus in the cellars this year and it will want some bottle age to start to stir. The potential here is excellent, with the very pure and precise nose offering up scents of green apple, smoke, flinty minerality, citrus zest, spring flowers and a hint of the beeswax to come with bottle age. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and nascently complex, with an excellent core of fruit, fine transparency and grip, snappy acids and a long, soil-driven and vibrant finish. This is a first class example." 94 Points John Gilman, View from the Cellar

Francis Boulard Les Murgiers Brut Nature NV, 0.75L
Pinot Meunier / Pinot Noir from Champagne, Champagne
“The NV Brut Nature Les Murgiers is mostly Muenier with a slap of Pinot Noir based on 2019, with 20% reserve wines. Bright and nervy with a refined mousse, the Murgiers is a bundle of energy today. White pepper, chalk, mint and dried flowers add complexity. Readers should expect an especially taut Meunier-based Champagne. The half bottle of this same wine showed more mid-palate texture and creaminess, along with expressive red fruit, spice and hazelnut flavors, giving a very good idea of where this wine is headed in time …. This is a terrific set of wines from Francis Boulard et Fille, which is now run by Francis’ daughter Delphine. Sustainable farming and low intervention winemaking yield Champagnes that are marked by delineation, focus and remarkable purity. The NV Extra Brut Blanc de Blancs Les Vieilles Vignes is a fine introduction for readers who are new to the wines, while the 2013 Brut Nature Les Rachais shows how special this vintage is in the right hands.” 94 Antonio Galloni, Vinous.com

R.H. Coutier La Pierre aux Larrons Grand Cru Blanc de Blancs Brut Nature 2015, 0.75L
Chardonnay from Montagne de Reims, Champagne
"A new wine in this range, the 2015 Brut Nature Pierre Aux Larrons Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru emerges from Coutier's oldest Chardonnay in Ambonnay, planted in 1948. The Brut Nature emphasizes the power of Chardonnay. I imagine a touch of dosage might have softened the wine a bit, but no matter, the 2015 is simply stunning. There is a feeling of translucent energy and starkness that I find especially compelling. Chalk, white flowers, mint, white pepper and lemon peel linger. What a wine." 94 Antonio Galloni, Vinous

Tarlant BAM! Brut Nature NV, 0.75L
Pinot Blanc / Arbanne / Petit Meslier from Oeuilly, Champagne
"The NV Brut Nature BAM!, Tarlant’s Pinot Blanc, Arbanne and Petit Meslier blend, is terrific. It offers notable energy and tension, with lovely complexity from the perpetual reserve that is used to complement the base vintage .... Lemon confit, marzipan, dried flowers, tangerine oil and lightly honeyed notes linger nicely, with a whole range of bright saline accents that lend further energy and focus. This release is terrific." 94 Antonio Galloni, Vinous
"I love Benoît and Mélanie Tarlant’s BAM bottling, which takes its name from its cépages of Pinot Blanc, Arbanne and Petit Meslier .... The wine offers up a beautifully complex bouquet of white peach, hazelnut, brioche, a complex base of chalky soil tones, a hint of buttery oak and a topnote of dried flowers. On the palate the wine is pure, full-bodied and impeccably balanced, with a superb core, very refined mousse, lovely focus and a long, complex finish. As I have said before, with extended aging on the fine lees de rigeur for all of the Tarlant bottlings, the acids have mellowed nicely prior to the wine’s release and the lack of dosage is hardly an issue here like it can be with so many other examples of Brut Nature, which are simply too young and snappy when hitting the market to provide drinking pleasure beyond the circle of non-dosé purists." 93 John Gilman, View From The Cellar
"Fun aromas of dried green mangos and green apples with ginger. Full-bodied with zippy acidity and a long, intense finish. Lots of dried fruit. Spiced pear, too. Really attractive and delicious. Unlike the Blanc Premier Crus in this range, the Rosé has more body and textural intensity, all of which make for an absolutely compelling wine. I love the vinous intensity here. Charles Joguet Chinon Clos de la Dioterie 2018, 0.75L
Cabernet Franc from Chinon, Loire
"The 2018 Chinon Clos de la Dioterie is richly fruited, reflecting the warmth of the vintage, and soft and mouth-filling despite not being heavy. There's baked fruit here, suggesting a combination of black currant, red cherry, cedar and spice. The tannins are structured and textured, showing this wine's intent, but it's all very well handled – those tannins are both resolved and incredibly chalky. This is a lengthy, serious wine with sinew. The vintage might be evident in the high alcohol and warm profile, but the class of the site is also indisputable. Château de Fosse-Sèche Laurasie Rouge 2019, 0.75L
Cabernet Sauvignon from Saumur, Loire
"Darker in its ruby color, the 2019 Laurasie is a pure Cabernet Sauvignon from almost 20-year-old vines on the stony Jurassic plateau of Fosse-Sèche, where yields are not bigger than 20 hectoliters per hectare. This is fleshy and concentrated yet pure, fresh and elegant on the deep, terroir-driven and beautifully floral (violets) as well as graphitic nose that is absolutely distinctive in its delicate, pure and balanced style. Black and blue berries, dark cherries, green paprika, pencil lead and herbal, wet gravelly notes lead to a medium to full-bodied, highly elegant, refined and perfectly balanced palate that exhibits perfectly ripe, round and juicy fruit with a firm but ripe, very fine and elegant tannin/acidity complex. The finish of this concentrated red is tight, intense and spicy, showing black berry and chocolate as well as graphite and coal with dark cherry notes. Irresistible and, in 2019, possibly the finest wine from Fosse-Sèche. The wine was aged for 12 months in concrete eggs. Tasted in January 2021." 94 Points, Stephan Reinhardt, Wine Advocate

Château de Fosse-Sèche Saumur Réserve du Pigeonnier 2019, 0.75L
Cabernet Franc from Saumur, Loire
From 60+-year-old vines yielding no more than 11 hectoliters per hectare, macerated for 20 days and aged in concrete eggs for 14 months, the 2019 Réserve du Pigeonnier offers a spectacular deep, ripe and intense, slightly toasty yet still pure, refined and floral-scented bouquet of raw meat, black berries, cherries, crushed stones, ivy and licorice intertwined with this unique elegant, iron-scented Fosse-Sèche note. Medium to full-bodied yet concentrated, round, intense and firm on the palate, this is a fresh, refined and elegant Cab Franc that is based on perfectly ripe and concentrated dark fruits and this nervy silex acidity of Fosse-Sèche. Bernard Burgaud Cote-Rotie 2019, 0.75L

"Saturated magenta. Powerful, mineral-driven red and blue fruit, candied violet, olive and exotic spice scents show fine definition and lift. Densely packed and energetic on the palate, offering intense, spice-accented bitter cherry, Chambord and blueberry flavors that open up with air. The blue fruit and floral notes drive an impressively long, finely detailed finish that's given grip by polished, steadily building tannins. 20% new oak." 94 Points, Josh Raynolds, Vinous, December 2022
"Closer in style to the 2018 than the 2017, the 2019 Cote Rotie is a big, rich, powerful Côte Rôtie that has loads of meaty, gamey black fruits, smoked herb, pepper, and chocolate-like aromas and flavors. Casal Pilozzo Colle Gaio The Old White 2007, 0.75L
Malvasia del Lazio from Lazio, Lazio
"The 2007 Colle Gaio explodes from the glass with a heady and layered display of musky dried mangos and peach skins, as notes of lanolin and crushed dried flowers bring you back to earth. This possesses depths of silky textures, balancing savory and sweet with an almondy richness that mixes with salty minerals and ripe apricot to create a sensation that seems more like food than wine. A glycerol-like coating of fruit extract and liquid inner florals lingers incredibly long as the 2007 tapers off to nuances of candied ginger, hazelnut and a bitter yet lovely twang of lemon pith. G.D. Vajra Barolo Coste Di Rose 2017, 0.75L
Nebbiolo from Barolo, Piedmont
"With fruit from higher-elevation vineyards in the village of Barolo, the 2017 Barolo Coste di Rose is quite elegantly downplayed and fragile. The wine reveals wild berry, cassis and lots of blue flower or lilac. A pretty mineral note recalls crushed limestone and is present through the long and polished mouthfeel. This wine overperforms, considering the challenges of this vintage that saw extreme weather, from spring frost to scorching summer temperatures. These vineyard sites performed better than most. Some 4,800 bottles were released." 94 Monica Larner, Wine Advocate
"The 2017 Barolo Coste di Rose has bright aromatics of candied raspberry, apricot, anise, and dusty earth. The palate is medium-bodied, with fine tannins and notes of dried wild strawberry, fresh roses, and mineral-rich earth. This wine is open and inviting, while maintaining freshness and drive. Drink 2024-2040.<!--more-->The G.D. Vajra estate is based within the commune of Barolo, where Giuseppe and Aldo Vajra helm the winemaking responsibilities. Giuseppe, who took more of a leadership role in 2008, has been instrumental in continuing to develop the family estate, while Isonzo Vajra leads in vineyard management. Most recently they have completed the expansion of their cellar space, and they are also releasing their wines a touch later to allow the additional time in bottle to soften any harsh edges. As of the 2019 vintage, both the G.D.Vajra and Luigi Baudana estates are certified organic." 94 Audrey Frick, JebDunnuck.com
"The 2017 Barolo Coste di Rose is pretty, supple and inviting. Some of the tannins need to resolve, but this is a young Barolo after all. The Coste di Rose doesn't have the sensuality of the Albe or the pedigree of the Viole, but it nevertheless has so much to give. Crushed flowers, sweet red berry fruit, mint, crushed rocks and sage are some of the many notes that linger. I won't be surprised if the 2017 is even better than this note suggests once it softens a bit." 93 Antonio Galloni, VInous

Dei Vino Nobile di Montepulciano 2018, 0.75L
Sangiovese from Vino Nobile di Montepulciano, Tuscany
"Subtle but enticing perfume to the nose, offering cherry-based aromas that are tinged with bright, tangy spice. Full-bodied with a super intense bead of perfectly placed fruit and tannin. There’s slight firmness to the tannin at the end, so wait a year for perfect integration. Beautiful quality here. Not overly complex, but such good winemaking. La Serena Brunello di Montalcino Riserva Gemini 2015, 0.75L
Sangiovese from Brunello di Montalcino, Tuscany
"The 2015 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva Gemini is fruit-forward and a bit extroverted yet impossible to ignore. It boasts a striking mix with intense raspberry preserves, exotic spices and dusty dried florals. Its textures are soft and fleshy, creating a creamy feel to its radiant, ripe fruit profile, while maintaining balance through brisk acids and grippy tannins. The 2015 Gemini takes a turn toward austerity, finishing structured and grippy; yet through it all, sweet violet florals resonate. This may be a full-throttle and extroverted effort, but it’s well balanced and sure to have a lot of fans. Important to note that this was checked in on, and held up beautifully over the course of three days." 94 Points, Eric Guido, Vinous

Le Ragnaie Brunello di Montalcino 2017, 0.75L
Sangiovese from Brunello di Montalcino, Tuscany
"The Le Ragnaie 2017 Brunello di Montalcino is a delicate and graceful expression that unfolds carefully to reveal wild berry, dried lilac and pretty earthy tones. This 26,000-bottle release fits into that enviable school of Brunello that prioritizes tradition, elegance and purity. These are the basic traits of a great Sangiovese, but they are not easily achieved by all. Le Ragnaie's identity is deeply linked with these efforts. Lifted notes of dried mint or Mediterranean herb appear on the close." 94 Points, Monica Larner, Wine Advocate

Silvio Nardi Brunello di Montalcino 2017, 0.75L
Sangiovese from Brunello di Montalcino, Tuscany
"This is a beautiful, fresh 2017 Brunello with fine tannins and a medium body of cherry, bark, cedar and pine-needle flavors. It’s long and polished with ultra-fine tannins and fresh acidity. Nicely done for the vintage. Drink or hold." 94 James Suckling
"Tenute Silvio Nardi is an estate worth visiting. It occupies one of the most extreme locations in the appellation, tucked away into the hills north of the town in a wild no-man's-land of its own. Once you get there, there is a cozy, warm feeling, with vineyards carved out of the surrounding Mediterranean shrub oaks and forests. If you taste forest floor, button mushroom and wild flowers in the 2017 Brunello di Montalcino, you could easily imagine this magical place. This is a silky, mid-weight Brunello with a cool-climate character (which is preserved despite the hot vintage). An ample 114,000 bottles are hitting the market now." 93 Monica Larner, Wine Advocate

Tenuta San Guido Guidalberto 2020, 0.75L
Cabernet Sauvignon / Merlot from Tuscany, Tuscany
."A forceful and profound Guidalberto that tells the story of the 2020 vintage with a very dark profile reminiscent of black cherry, black plums, dark chocolate, burnt sage, and marjoram. Fresher nuances emerge slowly with the passage of minutes in the glass, proceeding to a progressive balsamic character accented with dried white flowers and mandarin juice fused with green tones reminiscent of peppermint. Full bodied, powerful, and layered on the palate, it demonstrates grace and character within a considerably languid disposition. Gorgeous right from the start, but better after 2024." 94 Points, Raffaele Vecchione, WinesCritic.com

Lo Triolet Pinot Noir 2018, 0.75L
Pinot Noir from Valle d'Aosta, Valle d'Aosta
"With glacier soils and extreme, high-altitude weather, Valle d'Aosta is one of the most difficult places to grow Pinot Noir, not to mention the arduous task of farming its steep slopes. However, the Lo Triolet 2018 Vallée d'Aoste Pinot Noir makes it look easy thanks to the careful balance and delicate varietal flavors inherent to this wine. It reveals blue flower, rosebud, orange peel, nutmeg and crushed stone. This is a silky, polished and lean-bodied expression to celebrate with an aged Formagella from one of Valle d'Aosta's many cheesemaking valleys." 94 Points Monica Larner, The Wine Advocate

Niepoort Quinta de Baixo Poeirinho 2016, 0.75L
Baga from Cantanhede, Bairrada
"The 2016 Poeirinho is a Baga aged for 20 months in old 2,000-liter fuders. It comes in at 12% alcohol. This seems better balanced and more refined than the 2015—but perhaps not as energetic. For the moment, I prefer the 2015, granting that they are not side by side. Lighter styled, crisp and transparent, this is a wine that is all about Baga characteristics. It adds that silky texture, refinement, acidity and tannins. It took a while for the pure power to come out, but there is plenty. The tannins are harder than you think at first—although not impossibly astringent. This is certainly beautiful, but it needs some time to evolve and develop, even if you can approach it fairly young. Let's be a little conservative and start here. This will have a long life ahead and plenty of time to evolve." 94 Points, Mark Squires, Wine Advocate

“The new top-of-the-range 2016 Tuca Negra Garnacha has a round palate with fleshy tannins and feels nicely balanced, even if the alcohol is on the higher side. Those white soils seem to impart a special elegance and freshness in the wines. The oak is nicely integrated and seems to have the balance and components for positive developments in the bottle. Cantalapiedra Viticultores Majuelo La Otea Pie Franco 2018, 0.75L
Verdejo from Castilla y León, Castilla y León
"I love the 2018 Majuelo La Otea a very Burgundian expression of Verdejo from a vineyard planted ungrafted some 150 (!) years ago. It has a yeasty and flinty nose, quite unusual and personal, ripe without excess, expressive, fresh and balanced. The palate has a chalky texture and reveals rich and deep flavors and great freshness but doesn't lack ripeness. It's super tasty. The clusters were pressed and the juice put to ferment in 600-liter French oak barrels after letting it settle for 12 hours. It fermented very slowly until January 2020, the first 12 months in barrel and the following 11 in stainless steel. It was bottled unfiltered into 2,160 bottles and 30 magnums in August 2020. Bravo!" 94 Luis Gutiérrez, Wine Advocate

Raúl Pérez 'Ultreia La Claudina' Godello Bierzo 2020, 0.75L
Godello from Bierzo, Castilla y León
"They have lowered the alcohol and ripeness in most of the whites, but some vineyards are more difficult than others... The 2020 Ultreia La Claudina comes from a plot on sandy soils that needs higher ripeness to avoid excess bitterness. In 2020 it matured in 50% new barrels as they wanted to see how the wine behaved. It has power and consistence, but the style is a little different from what the wine was before, a little creamier and marked by the élevage. It's more exuberant and quite the opposite from the rectitude of La del Vivo. There are some 2,200 bottles from 1,700 liters of wine." 94 Points, Luis Guiterrez, Wine Advocate

Vinas Serranas El Canchorral 2019, 0.75L
Rufete from Castilla y León, Castilla y León
"The 2019 El Canchorral is a blend of Calabrés (Garnacha), Aragonés (Tempranillo), Verdejo Negro, Rufete Blanco, Palomino, Moscatel and other grapes planted 85 years ago on degraded pink granite soils. This is the only wine that ferments with 100% full clusters. It has a lot of white grapes and is more floral, with less alcohol (it's 13.5% even in this riper year), more acidity and a lower pH. It is more floral à la Fleury and very expressive, as they can use very low doses of sulfur in this wine given its higher natural acidity (possibly because of the white grapes). This comes from a very old vineyard, and the varieties feel very integrated and complement each other. It comes through as complex and nuanced, a little riper and showier than the 2018. The palate reflects the effect of the stems in the vinification a little. All of these single-vineyard wines matured in used oak barrels for some 15 months in 2019. Around 1,500 bottles were filled in May 2021." 94 Luis Gutiérrez, Wine Advocate

Bodega Margón Paraje de El Santo 2014, 0.75L
Prieto Picudo from Tierra de Leon, León
"The most aromatic red is the 2014 Pricum Paraje de El Santo. The grapes from old vines planted on sandy soils in conjunction with the cooler year delivered a wine with less alcohol and higher acidity, more freshness and a more elegant profile, all within the rusticity of the grape and the zone, of course! It has a floral touch intermixed with spices and an earthy touch. The palate reveals abundant fine-grained tannins. This vintage is a little less austere and has character and a strong personality. 2,100 bottles were filled in December 2016." 94 Points, Luis Guiterrez, Wine Advocate

A Tribute to Grace Grenache Morro Vineyard 2019, 0.75L

"The 2019 Grenache Morro View Vineyard offers tons of immediacy and sheer appeal. The decision to destem all the fruit worked so well here. Forward, bold and racy, the Morro View is one of the many compelling wines in this lineup. Red/purplish berry fruit, blood orange, spice and mint are all kicked up. Big Basin Vineyards Syrah Rattlesnake Rock 2016, 0.75L
Syrah from Santa Cruz Mountains, California
"The 2016 Syrah Rattlesnake Rock is a powerful wine. Red fruit, iron, chalk, white pepper, game and incisive tannins give the 2016 a real feeling of drive that distinguishes it in the range. This is an especially mineral-driven, savory, taut Syrah, with all the elements in the right place. Dried herbs, licorice and crushed flowers add aromatic intrigue. It will be interesting to see if the 2016 gains a bit more volume in bottle. It is such a promising wine. The Côte-Rôtie selection Syrah from John Alban works so well here." 94 Antonio Galloni, Vinous
"From the home estate in the Santa Cruz Moutains, the 2016 Syrah Rattlesnake Rock is a firm, mineral-laced, yet concentrated and textured Syrah that's going to benefit from bottle age. Red and black fruits, spiced meat, bacon fat, and dried flower notes are just some of its nuances. A concentrated, classic mountain Syrah, it needs 2-3 years of bottle age and will cruise . . ." 94+ Jeb Dunnuck
"The 2016 Rattlesnake Rock bottling of syrah from Big Basin is one of their estate vineyard bottlings, as these vines were planted in 2000 in this windy parcel that sits between thirteen hundred and fourteen hundred feet above sea level. The 2016 version includes one-third whole clusters, was fermented with indigenous yeasts and aged for twenty-one months in used, three hundred liter barrels. The cépages here includes two percent of viognier that was co-fermented with the syrah. The wine comes in at 13.9 percent octane and offers up a deep and properly reserved bouquet of cassis, black raspberry, grilled meats, pepper, a touch of black olive, fine stony soil tones and a smoky topnote. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, focused and rock solid at the core, with a superb core of fruit, firm, ripe tannins and outstanding balance and grip on the long, nascently complex and very, very promising finish. There is a strong vein of iron in the soils here and this really comes across on the backend here. This is outstanding syrah in the making, with plenty of structure and outstanding depth of fruit. Think of old school Hermitage with a different, stony soil signature." 93 John Gilman, View From The Cellar

Donnachadh Family Vineyards Chardonnay Sta Rita Hills 2021, 0.75L
Chardonnay from Santa Rita Hills, California
"The 2021 Chardonnay Sta. Rita Hills is the first vintage of Chardonnay from Donnachadh. It was barrel fermented and matured for around 10 months. The light-bodied palate is bright and fresh, yet offers a touch of anchoring creaminess that draws out the finish. Dark and savory, with terrific depth, the 2018 is full of character. Black cherry, lavender, chocolate, sage, mint and cloves all open in the glass. Tatomer Gruner Veltliner Paragon 2020, 0.75L
Grüner Veltliner from Santa Barbara County, California
"The 2020 Grüner Veltliner Paragon stands out because its distinctly savory, phenolic personality. Dried apricot, sage, menthol and earthy undertones all run through the 2020. At times the Paragon almost feels like a red wine, such is its presence and overall feel. I was blown away by the wines I tasted with Grahama Tatomer this year. Tatomer has thoughtfully expanded his range over the last few years. At the same time, he has become more selective about what goes into the vineyard designate whites, choosing to use the rest for his entry-level Hinter der Mauer, which is easily one of the very finest values in all of Santa Barbara. Tatomer has acquired a reputation as a Riesling specialist in California, indeed he is one of the variety’s foremost exponents, but he is every bit as skilled with Pinot Noir. These new releases are superb across the board." 94 Antonio Galloni, Vinous
