El Viejo Almacen Huaso de Sauzal Chilena Pais 2016, 0.75L
Pais from Cauquenes, Valle del Maule
“The star here is the País, which he calls 2016 Huaso de Sauzal Chilena, from grapes picked later than usual, as there was rain during March and April. All of the wines here ferment in traditional raulí wood casks. The vines are extremely old—they don't know how old—ungrafted and head-pruned in the Secano Interior traditional zone of Chile, where viticulture was without irrigation. It ferments with indigenous yeasts, without temperature control or any intervention, and the wine matures in well-seasoned, neutral oak barrels for 12 months before bottling. It's an aromatic and delicious País, with great perfume and character, mixing flowers and herbs, some spices and an earthy nuance with a volatile touch. The variety has some rustic tannins that need some food. This is possibly the best Chilena from Cancino so far. This is always among my favorite País from Chile. 11,000 bottles produced. Like the rest of the 2016s, it was bottled in February 2017. I met with Renán Cancino, the man behind El Viejo Almacén de Sauzal, in Madrid to taste the 2016s, as he was on a trip to Europe. He works nine hectares of old vines in Sauzal and Truquilemu in Maule that are planted with Cariñena, Garnacha and País. He produces some 22,000 bottles per vintage. 2016 was a rainy year, with moderate yields, good concentration, lower alcohol and very good acidity—wines with nice balance. Great wines with the peasant character of the place. The País, which he calls Chilena, is among the best in the country.” 93+ Luis Gutiérrez, Wine Advocate

Domaine Guillot-Broux, Macon-Cruzille Les Perrieres 2020, 0.75L
Chardonnay from Mâcon-Cruzille, Burgundy
"Racy and tensile, the 2020 Mâcon-Cruzille Les Perrières mingles aromas of citrus zest with nuances of pastry cream and white flowers. Medium-bodied, taut and incisive, with terrific depth at the core, tangy acids and a long, chalky finish, it amply lives up to its name." 93+ Points, William Kelley, Wine Advocate

Domaine Guiberteau Saumur Blanc Le Clos de Guichaux 2018, 1.5L
from Saumur Champigny, Loire
"The 2018 Saumur Bizay Clos de Guichaux is from another monopole the family holds in Saumur. Planted in 2003 on silt and sand topping relatively soft limestone bedrock, picked by hand, fermented naturally and aged for nine months in older oak barrels, the intensely yellow-golden 2018 opens with intense and perfectly ripe and aromatic fruit on the immediately attractive and charming nose. Full-bodied, round and juicy, with remarkably finessed acidity and a really friable limestone character, this is a very attractive yet concentrated, dense and substantial, textural Saumur Chenin. Not only for immediate pleasure, the wine can age for years, if not even decades. Its finish is intense, and long yet also fine and fresh and reveals fine tension and mineral grip. Very stimulating and clearly limestone-driven but in a very charming manner."

Joh. Jos. Prum Graacher Himmelreich Riesling Auslese 2020, 0.375L
Riesling from Graach, Mosel
"The 2020er Graacher Himmelreich Riesling Auslese offers a beautifully pure and ripe nose of smoke, grapefruit, lime, vineyard peach, minty herbs, and bacon-driven aromatics from residual from its spontaneous fermentation. The wine coats the palate with gorgeously ripe and juicy notes of fruits and leaves a superbly pure, smooth, and almost soft and suave feel in the hugely long finish. The aftertaste is still loaded with sweetness in need of integration, which will need quite some time to integrate. There is upside potential as the wine gains finesse with age." 93+ Points, Mosel Fine Wines

Masseria del Pino I Nove Fratelli Etna Rosso 2019, 0.75L
Nerello Cappucio/ Nerello Mascalese from Etna, Sicily
"The 2019 Vino Rosso I Nove Fratelli takes a while to blossom, starting out dusty and coy with hints of dried roses and plum. Exotic savory spices come forward with time in the glass, along with notes of strawberry and smoke. In the mouth, it’s soft and fleshy at first, offset by a concentrated mass of tart wild berries and salty minerals under an air of inner florals. Tannins slowly mount, creating a youthfully dry impression through the finale, as sweet herbal notes, tobacco and echoes of ripe raspberries linger long. There’s simply so much going on here, yet the 2019 will require some time to come fully into focus. I Nove Fratelli is a blend of 90% Nerello Mascalese and 10% Nerello Cappuccio, from 120-year-old pre-phylloxera vines, fermented with indigenous yeasts and matured in 500-liter oak barrels. If you’re looking for under-the-radar, traditional winemaking from Etna, then you just found it. (Drink between 2024-2032)" 93+, Eric Guido, Vinous.com

Alegre Valgañón Rioja Tinto 2020, 0.75L
Tempranillo / Grenache from Rioja, La Rioja
"The house red 2020 Tinto showed superbly. It's a blend of Tempranillo from the Obarenes Mountains (Sajazarra and Fonzaleche) with 20% Garnacha from Cárdenas on clay and some 5% white that has 14.2% alcohol but feels perfectly balanced and integrated. It has a serious, harmonious nose with complexity and depth but also youth. It has a soft and juicy texture with focused and clean flavors, finishing with an almost salty twist. Super tasty and easy to drink! Great value too. It matured in a mixture of 1,000- and 3,000-liter oak foudres and 225- and 500-liter barrels. 22,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in February 2022." 93+ Points, Luis Guiterrez, Wine Advocate

Bodegas Hermanos Pecina Rioja Senorio de Pecina Reserva 2014, 0.75L
Tempranillo from Rioja Alta, La Rioja
"The 2014 Rioja “Reserva” from Señorío de P. Peciña is another beautiful current release from this great bodegas. The wine is showing far more secondary complexity on the nose than the lovely 2015 Crianza bottling, wafting from the glass in an utterly refined blend of cherries, raspberries, cigar smoke, salty soil tones, cloves, allspice, incipient nutskin and a lovely foundation of coconutty American oak. On the palate the wine is pure, full-bodied and already nicely velvety, with a sappy core of fruit, lovely mineral undertow, suave, mellowing tannins and a long, complex and seamlessly balanced finish. Great juice. (Drink between 2022-2065)" 93+, John Gilman, View from the Cellar

Dunn Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley 2019, 0.75L
Cabernet Sauvingon from Napa Valley, California
"The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon (Napa Valley) is a powerful, tannic wine. In some vintages, the Napa Valley bottling is quite accessible, but not here. Swaths of tannin wrap around a core of dark fruit, gravel, spice, dried flowers, lavender and charred earth are pushed forward, with firm, chocolatey tannins that wrap it all together. This brooding, potent Cabernet needs at least a few years to settle. The 2019 is a bruiser, that is for sure. (Drink between 2024-2039)" 93+ Antonio Galloni, Vinous
