Alex Foillard Cote de Brouilly 2019 2019, 0.75L
Gamay from Côte de Brouilly, Beaujolais

"Light, vivid ruby. Vibrant red fruit, floral and spice qualities on the mineral-inflected nose take on suggestions of incense and licorice as the wine stretches out. Sappy, incisive and pure, offering palate-staining raspberry, bitter cherry, floral pastille and rhubarb flavors that show a compelling blend of depth and vivacity. Closes very long and subtly chewy, with reverberating florality and polished tannins that come in late. That Foillard magic is clearly a hereditary thing." 94 points, Josh Raynolds, Vinous

Jean Foillard Fleurie 2021, 0.75L
Gamay from Fleurie, Beaujolais

"A generous red "The 2021 Fleurie comes from 3-hectares that suffered a lot of grillure in recent years and resulted in Foillard having to uproot parcels in the lieu-dit of "Champagne". This needs more encouragement on the nose compared to the Morgons. It is quite ripe considering the vintage - red cherries and crushed strawberry, hints of kirsch. The palate is medium-bodied, taut and crisp with fine tannins, brisk acidity and a touch of bitter cherry on the Morgon-like finish. Fine." 91 Neal Martin, Vinous.com

Jean Foillard Morgon Cuvée Corcelette 2021, 0.75L
Gamay from Morgon, Beaujolais

“The 2021 Morgon Cuvée Corcelette comes from vines averaging 50-years in age, this vineyard suffering less reduction in volume than others due to the sandy soils. It is aged in used barrels for around 9 months. It has a quite compelling and complex bouquet, with raspberry and wild strawberry, rose petal and light chalky scents. The palate is medium-bodied with pliant tannins, finely chiseled and lending tension. The acidity keeps this taut, focused, and quite minerally …. Bon vin. One of the original ‘Gang of Four’ disciples, Foillard is rightly esteemed as one of the leading Beaujolais producers, which is not reflected in market prices. Few wines represent better value than this. I have visited the Domaine several times over the years. On this occasion, I met with Fanny Bellenger, who works with Jean’s son Alex Foillard, to taste recent releases and take a quick tour of the winery. Unfortunately, due to the growing season in 2021, volumes are down 30%. The two 2020s I tasted from Alex Foillard are promising, especially the Brouilly that, when juxtaposing the two appellations, has more harmony and complexity than the Côte de Brouilly. The standout from Jean Foillard is the Morgon Côte du Py, though readers should not overlook the Fleurie despite the vines suffering grillure in recent years.” 91 Neal Martin, Vinous.com, May 2023

Jean Foillard Morgon Côte du Py 2021, 0.75L
Gamay from Morgon, Beaujolais

“The 2021 Morgon Côte du Py, matured in used barrels, has a more complex bouquet than the Corcelette: a melange of red and black fruit, potpourri/lavender, and a faint hint of curry leaf that emerges with time. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins and a fine backbone considering the growing season. This is very fresh and saline with quite a strict finish. You could attempt this now though I would be intrigued to age this for another two or three years before broaching. One of the original ‘Gang of Four’ disciples, Foillard is rightly esteemed as one of the leading Beaujolais producers, which is not reflected in market prices. Few wines represent better value than this. I have visited the Domaine several times over the years. Jean Foillard Morgon Les Charmes Eponym 2021, 0.75L
Gamay from Morgon, Beaujolais

"Foillard's Morgon Eponym comes from the Charmes lieu-dit, one of the highest parcels in the appellation. In contrast to the grandiose, deeply structured Côte du Py and silky-smooth Corcelette, this cuvée features a bit more crunch with lots of bright acidity and a leaner, more mineral profile. It nonetheless shares the satin texture of all Foillard Morgons, and should age similarly well for those willing and able to wait." Importer Notes

Marcel Lapierre Morgon N 2021, 0.75L
Gamay from Morgon, Beaujolais

"All our vines are located on the Morgon terroir. It is undoubtedly one of the most famous Beaujolais crus! Typically, Morgon presents four dominant aromas: cherry, violet, raspberry and a very slight touch of liquorice… Combining lightness and richness, our Morgon has an aging potential of around ten years on average. It should be noted that the Morgon appellation dates from 1936, only 12 years after the creation of the first AOCs, in Arbois and Châteauneuf." Winery Notes

Domaine Taupenot-Merme Saint Romain Blanc 2018, 0.75L

"Pale yellow robe with green hue. Saint Romain has notes of white flowers and toasted bread on the nose when young. When it has been aged, the nose changes to Mirabelle (yellow plums) and light honey. In the mouth, its liveliness, minerality and body make it very approachable when young." Winemaker Notes

Domaine de Villaine Bouzeron 2020, 0.75L
Aligoté from Bouzeron, Burgundy

"There is a pure lemony fruit on the initial attack here, but there is more complexity than that, with saline, iodine notes, plus hints of beeswax and hay. The texture is truly enchanting, with a rich, waxy, slightly phenolic texture and a lovely, slight bitterness that balances out the richness. This is built to age and will last a decade or more, at least." 93 Points, Decanter

There is a short week of maceration before the fermentation, with a large proportion of whole clusters before ageing in large casks. The result has a rich cassis fruit, with a bit of spice and a firm, tannic texture with impressive balance and length. Drinking Window 2023 - 2030."  Charles Curtis MW, Decanter, Oct 2021

"Moderately prominent wood can be found on the ripe and very spicy aromas of white fruit confit, orange peel, anise and exotic tea. There is again excellent volume and power to the larger-scaled flavors that brim with sappy dry extract before terminating in a caressing, stylish and complex finale. This intense mineral-driven effort is lovely and a wine that should amply reward mid-term cellaring." 92 Points, Allen Meadows, Burghound

Famille Savary Chablis 2020, 0.75L
Chardonnay from Chablis, Burgundy

Subtle and delicate nose opening on gleams of a true Chablis minerality. A bit of breathing confirms this limestony impression blending into notes of pear and apple where a delicate hint of fresh almond appears. The mouth makes you feel you are experiencing a richer, more intense personality where the complexity of the terroir is bringing some relief to the tasting. The limestone supports every second of the tasting and brings its unmistakeable profile until the very last perceivable notes on a beautiful finale. A mineral Chablis with intensity and freshness that truly ressembles what a great Chablis with a limestone terroir can and should offer. Producer Notes

Follin Arbelet Aloxe Corton Clos du Chapitre 2019, 0.75L
Pinot Noir from Aloxe Corton, Burgundy

"The 2019 Aloxe-Corton 1er Cru Clos du Chapitre opens in the glass with notes of earthy cherries, burning embers, cassis, black truffle and smoked meats. Medium to full-bodied, deep and elegantly muscular, with a fleshy core of fruit and powdery structuring tannins, this derives from an early-ripening, well-drained site of which Follin is one of only two proprietors." 91-93 William Kelley, Wine Advocate

"Here the fresh and overtly floral-suffused nose offers fruit that is derived more from the red side of the spectrum where additional breadth is present in the form of humus and earth. The finer but not denser flavors possess a lovely underlying tension that contrasts somewhat with the rustic, balanced and very firm finale." 89-91 Allen Meadows, Burghound

Francine et Oliver Savary Chablis Vieilles Vignes 2021, 0.75L
Chardonnay from Chablis, Burgundy

"The Savarys have finally earned the recognition for their hard work, and are highly regarded in the appellation. The clay-limestone hillsides of the Kimmeridgian chain are excellent for growing dazzling, complex Chardonnay, also known here as “Beaunois.” However ideal the soil, Olivier brings his own brilliance to the table. The grapes from his vineyards throughout the Chablis appellation are blended into one fabulously complex village wine cuvée.  He also bottles an extraordinary premier cru from Fourchaume, as well as a separate cuvée of old-vine fruit in heavy, wax-sealed bottles after élévage in demi-muids.  These exquisite wines are quintessential Chablis, with unmistakable aromas of ancient crushed shells and a pronounced, racy mineral structure." Importer Notes

Montanet-Thoden Bourgogne Vézelay Galerne 2020, 0.75L
Chardonnay from Bourgogne Vézelay, Burgundy

"Domaine Montenet Thondon's organically grown Bourgogne Blanc de Vezely is a classically vibrant Chardonnay. It's beautifully ripe, but still bone dry with a light-to-medium body. You'll get notes of melon and green apple on the nose with crisp acidity and minerality. It's complex enough to stand alone, but also makes a perfect match for crisp summer salads with fruit like strawberries and sliced peaches, or grilled meat, fish, and light pasta dishes."

Ermitage du Pic St. Loup Rosé 2022, 0.75L
Syrah / Mourvèdre / Grenache / Cinsault from Pic Saint Loup, Languedoc Roussillon

“The 2022 Rosé opens with white cherries, strawberries and fresh mint. It’s softly textured with a balanced inner sweetness. The 2022 displays violet-tinged wild berries and liquid stone nuances. This finishes potent and with decent length. A lump of residual acidity maintains a lovely freshness.” 90 Eric Guido, Vinous.com, May 2023

"This impeccably made rosé from the raw and rustic landscape of the Languedoc requires a moment to open up, eventually releasing all the brambly qualities of the sunbaked shrubs and herbs that seem to infuse its beautifully plump fruit. It is an irresistibly charming, delightfully refreshing wine." Importer Notes

Mas Champart Saint-Chinian Rosé 2022, 0.75L
Mourvèdre / Cinsault from Saint Chinian, Languedoc Roussillon

"The harvest is manual and the grapes cooled before being pressed. Our Rosé comes from direct pressing. The grapes are picked less ripe than for the Reds in order to keep more aromatic freshness and to have lower alcohol content. The wine is aged on fine lees. The malolactic fermentation is done, the wine gains in finesse on the finish and the Mourvèdre brings power to give a real gastronomic Rosé. The vintage is ample, fruity and spicy with a tonic mineral finish. Very tasty as an aperitif, it goes very well with summer, Mediterranean or spicy cuisine: grilled vegetables, summer salads, terrines, fish soups, tapenade, eggplant caviar, grilled meats. Its low SO2 content accentuates its particularly digestible character." Producer Notes

Bernard Baudry Chinon La Croix Boissee 2019, 0.75L
Cabernet Franc from Chinon, Loire

"A cuvée that needs little introduction, from a famed terroir of limestone slopes which rise up above the valley floor. The fermentation was particularly slow says Matthieu [Baudry], so this went into barrel late, and it was still carrying 2.5 g/l residual sugar. As a consequence there was a little refermentation during the summer months of 2020. By the time of my tasting there was still a little carbon dioxide gas in the wine, signifying that. The colour is a gorgeous black violet hue, and the nose is filled with aromatic black and curranty fruits, with hints of liquorice and rose garden. Trying to look past the residual gas on the palate (easier said than done) this feels fresh and vigorous, with a silky composition, and notes of liquorice, toast, currant and white chalk. A brilliant wine. The alcohol is about 14%, says Matthieu. (Oct 2020)" 96-98 Chris Kissack, TheWineDoctor.com

"The 2019 vintage of La Croix Boissée (limestone) is deep in color, impressing with its density and ability to 'refresh' with the intrinsic power of the wine. Patience: it will deliver itself in the coming decades." 95 La Revue du Vin de France

Charles Joguet Chinon Clos de la Dioterie 2018, 0.75L
Cabernet Franc from Chinon, Loire

"The 2018 Chinon Clos de la Dioterie is richly fruited, reflecting the warmth of the vintage, and soft and mouth-filling despite not being heavy. There's baked fruit here, suggesting a combination of black currant, red cherry, cedar and spice. The tannins are structured and textured, showing this wine's intent, but it's all very well handled – those tannins are both resolved and incredibly chalky. This is a lengthy, serious wine with sinew. The vintage might be evident in the high alcohol and warm profile, but the class of the site is also indisputable. Thierry Germain Domaine des Roches Neuves Franc De Pied 2020, 0.75L
Cabernet Franc from Saumur Champigny, Loire

The 2020 Franc de Pied is incredibly reductive when it was first opened and needed a lot of time and a swirl with a copper coin. If you can be patient ( 5 minutes with a penny in your glass, or your currency’s equivalent), It’s worth the wait. It reveals itself to be a richly fruited, savory style that fills the mouth with a balloon of chalky silkiness. The limestone element really shows itself on the long finish grained texture and sinew. As you’d hope from Saumyr-Champigny, there’s no sense of weight or heft. Detectable now but has the structure to develop over the coming two decades.” 94 Rebecca Gibb MW, Vinous, June 2022

Thierry Germain Domaine des Roches Neuves Les Memoires 2020, 0.75L
Cabernet Franc from Saumur Champigny, Loire

“The 2020 Les Memoires is a round and elegant Cabernet Franc. It’s a not-trying wine that exudes a sense of calm and ease as it rolls around your mouth seamlessly. Maybe it’s the 100-year old vines doing their thing. There’s no oak getting in the way, allowing the purity of fruit to shine. It remains true to its variety and place, while its light spice meets dark fruits. Forget the fruit flavors, this is all about refined texture and its fine, chalky, powdery veil of tannins lightly coating the palate. Long and textural, this is not a wine you’ll regret...” 94 Rebecca Gibb MW, Vinous, June 2022

Clos Saint-Joseph Côtes de Provence Syrah 2017, 0.75L
Syrah from Côtes de Provence, Provence

"While the name of the domaine honors Roch’s great-grandfather, it also brings to mind the great northern Rhône appellation Saint-Joseph. The association with fine cool-climate Syrah is not unwarranted: the grape shows a special affinity to the extreme environment of this less-traveled side of Provence, so much that Roch chose to spotlight it with a special cuvée. Thick, dense, chewy tannins frame this brawny red jam-packed with spice and savory goodness. It belongs in your cellar somewhere between the Bandols and the Hermitages."  Anthony Lynch, Kermit Lynch Wine Merchant

Clos Saint-Joseph I.G.P. Méditerranée Rouge 2017, 0.75L
Syrah / Grenache / Mourvèdre / Cabernet Sauvignon from Méditérranée, Provence

"In 2017, a hail storm destroyed much of Clos Saint Joseph’s red grapes. Half of this bottling comes from grapes from Clos Saint Joseph’s vines. The other half comes from donations of grapes from a large group of Provence’s top growers (an organization called Rouge Provence, intended to create solidarity among growers and promote Provence’s historic red wines) including Domaine Tempier, Domaine Hauvette, and Domaine de la Tour du Bon. All these grapes come from different AOCs (Bandol, Coteaux de Baux, Coteaux d’Aix, Coteaux Varois, Côtes de Provence), which is why the wine’s designation is I.G.P Méditerranée instead of Côtes de Provence."  Importer Notes, Kermit Lynch Wine Merchant

For all this wine's richness, it's energetic as well, showing solid, spice- and floral-driven persistence on the finish, which is framed by velvety, even tannins." 95 Points, Josh Raynolds, Vinous Magazine

Domaine du Vieux Telegraphe Chataneauf de Pape La Crau 2020, 0.375L
Grenache / Mourvèdre / Syrah / Cinsault from Chateauneuf du Pape, Rhône

"Tasted as a tank sample of the final blend, the 2020 Chateauneuf du Pape La Crau is a blend of approximately 60% Grenache, 20% Mourvèdre, 15% Syrah and 5% other permitted varieties, with about 30% whole bunches used in the ferments. Marked by ripe cherries and hints of complex garrigue notes on the nose, it's full-bodied but also really elegant, with fine-grained, silky tannins, ample concentration and a long, surprisingly crisp finish. 93-95 Joe Czerwinski, Wine Advocate, May 2022

Jean-Claude Marsanne Saint-Joseph 2018, 0.75L
Syrah from St. Joseph, Rhône

"Just a stone's throw from JL Chave and Gonon, this little-known winegrower delivers high-level Syrah at a price that is still angelic, a superb discovery...Deep colour with purple tints. Expressive nose of black fruits, notes of spices of cacao, mineral touch. In the mouth, a traditional, generous, powerful but balanced wine. We find the aromatic personality of the appellation on a beautiful length."

Jean-Claude Marsanne Syrah Mauve 2019, 0.75L
Syrah from Ardèche, Rhône

"Young vines in Mauves, short maceration, stainless-steel aged... but definitely no simple Syrah! The parcel is quite well exposed, giving warm, black fruit with a full, juicy body." Importer Notes, Kermit Lynch

Lionel Faury Collines Rhodaniennes L'Art Zélé 2017, 0.75L
Syrah from St. Joseph, Rhône

"Bright purple. Pungent dark berry, cherry, olive and licorice scents are sharpened by peppery spice and mineral flourishes. Appealingly sweet blueberry, cassis and violet pastille flavors slowly deepen in the glass and pick up a smoky accent on the back half. Finishes smooth and long, displaying gentle sweetness, rounded tannins and a persistent floral note." 91 Points Josh Raynolds, Vinous

Lionel Faury Cote-Rotie 2020, 0.75L
Syrah from Côte Rôtie, Rhône

"I tasted barrels from a couple of the lieux-dits that will go into Faury's 2020 Cote Rotie, both of which impressed for their rich yet silky textures, floral overtones and concentrated fruit. Faury believes that 2020 is a great year in Cote Rotie, and these samples seem to support his theory." 93-95 Points, Joe Czerwinski, Wine Advocate

Lionel Faury Saint-Joseph Vieilles Vignes 2020, 0.75L
Syrah from St. Joseph, Rhône

"Inky magenta. Intense black and blue fruit, floral botanical herb and spice qualities on the deeply perfumed mineral-accented nose. Broad and fleshy but lively as well, offering palate-staining boysenberry, kirsch, candied violet olive paste, chewing tobacco, and exotic spice favors that become livelier with air. Marries richness to energy, with a deft hand and finishes superb, spicy persistence, well knit tannins and resonating mineral character. I consistently find this bottling to be amongst the best of this sprawling appellation. In fact, it's usually at or above the quality level of quite a few examples of Côte-Rôtie." 95 Jay Raynolds, Vinous, Dec 2022

Louis Barruol Côte Rôtie La Boisselee 2018, 0.75L
Syrah from Côte Rôtie, Rhône

“Sure, it has the violets and spice of great Côte Rôtie, but also a dense and delicious Syrah luxuriance you want to bite off and chew. After a recent tasting, I tried to order a few bottles from the estate for my personal cellar and was sadly denied. Very few bottles of this wine were made, and with demand so high, every last one has now shipped off to the USA. I envy all who can still find a few for the cellar!” Kermit Lynch Wine Merchant

"Fresh and focused, offering currant and steeped black cherry notes mixed with hints of alder, bay leaf and rosemary. This has everything knitting nicely through the finish, with a mineral edge lingering." 93 Wine Spectator
