La Chenade Lalande de Pomerol 2020, 0.75L
Merlot / Cabernet Franc from Lalande de Pomerol, Bordeaux
"Aromas of orange peel, black berries, flint and spice follow through to a medium to full body, with firm and racy tannins and a pretty finish. Drink or hold." 93 James Suckling
"Made from Merlot grapes picked between the 9th and the 15th of September and Cabernet Franc grapes picked on the 16th of September, the 2020 La Chenade expresses a vibrant and elegant bouquet with aromas of dark berries, violet, rose, dark cherries and graphite. Medium to full-bodied, it’s a juicy and elegant wine with a fleshy core of fruit and a fresh finish. As usual, this estate has produced excellent red wine from sandy-gravel soils." 92+ Yohan Castaing, Wine Advocate
"The 2020 La Chenade was very promising when I originally tasted it from barrel. In bottle since May, it has developed a lovely nose with melted red berry fruit, wild mint and light fennel scents. Nicely delineated and focused. The palate is medium-bodied with pliant tannins. Extremely pure, very harmonious, this Lalande-de-Pomerol discretely crescendos towards its very satisfying, quite structured finish. Superb." 92 Neal Martin, Vinous

Caroline Morey Chassagne Montrachet Les Chambrees 2021, 0.75L
Chardonnay from Chassagne Montrachet, Burgundy
"From three lieux-dits, the 2021 Chassagne-Montrachet Chambrées has a tightly-wound bouquet with red apple, lime and crushed stone. The palate is quite intense and weighty in the mouth, rounded like a Meursault yet counterbalanced by a keen line of acidity that maintains focus on the finish." This is my inaugural exploration of the wines of Caroline Morey, aka Pierre-Yves Colin’s ‘better half.’ The wines were inherited from her family and hewn from a different cloth, even though they have been made in the same winery in Chassagne since 2017. The one major difference compared to PYCM is that she uses slightly less new oak, around 20-25% instead of 30-35% - not to mention half-a-dozen reds. Readers should note that the 2021 Chassagne-Montrachet Village includes fruit from declassified Premier Crus from Les Caillerets and Chaumées. Pierre-Yves explains the approach to the reds: ‘The reds undergo little extraction, and Caroline did not pursue more colour or tannins; all the cuvées include 30% to 50% whole bunches with a maximum two-week cuvaison during which there are only two or three pigeage and a little remontage. There is also a shorter barrel maturation; they’re racked in October, blended in tank and bottled in January.’" 89-91 Neal Martin, Vinous

Caroline Morey Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru 2021, 0.75L
Chardonnay from Chassagne Montrachet, Burgundy
"The 2021 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru is almost entirely from Champs Gain and Vergers. It has a clean and precise bouquet, quite focused, not powerful but nicely delineated. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins that frame orchard fruit, bitter lemon and orange rind notes. Good weight and concentration here with quite a persistent and convincing finish. Good potential. "A blend of Champgains and Vergers with a bare smidgin of Caillerets and Chaumées. The first two managed a good half crop after successful protection. Clear pale colour, the nose suggests fair weight without giving detail. Really very pretty on the nose, crisp limestone style, slightly saline, fresh and persistent." 91-93 Jasper Morris MW, Inside Burgundy

Pierre Yves Colin Morey Nuits Saint Georges 2021, 0.75L
Pinot Noir from Nuits St. Georges, Burgundy
"...The juice is pressed into barrel before primary fermentation and then Pierre-Yves leaves them alone as much as possible. Fermentation is always initiated by natural yeast and he does not stir the lees, rack the barrels or even filter the wines. Pierre-Yves also prefers unusual barrels – about 80% of them are 50% larger than normal Burgundy barrels. Depending on the vintage, most of the top wines are aged in new oak, but the larger barrels minimize the oak influence and also delay the malolactic fermentation. The cellar is also kept very cold to further delay the malolactic fermentation – which ideally finishes 8-9 months after harvest. Approximately 18 months after harvest the wines are lightly fined and then bottled. The extended elévage helps preserve aromatic intensity and purity as well as giving the wines the right balance for long-term ageing." Importer Notes

Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey Chassagne Montrachet Vieilles Vignes 2021, 0.75L
Chardonnay from Chassagne Montrachet, Burgundy
"This is a collection of various lieux-dits on the Puligny side of the appellation that average about 50 years in age. The result is a flattering Chassagne whose vibrant minerality pairs up harmoniously with yellow cherries and baked apple. There is lovely sap and whisper of discreet oak." 94 Christy Canterbury MW, TimAtkin.com

Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey Saint-Aubin 2021, 0.75L
Chardonnay from St. Aubin, Burgundy
"The village-level Saint-Aubin from Domaine Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey features green apple and grapefruit aromas with spice from the cask fermentation. The texture is silky and round, avoiding any tart or acerbic sensations and lingering on the palate. The grapes are a blend of three parcels from his fifty-year-old vines in the south-facing but high-altitude lieu-dit Le Blanc with a parcel in En Choilles. Colin presses the grapes very gently as whole clusters and racks to barrel without settling before fermenting in cask on native yeasts." 91 Charles Curtis MW, Decanter Magazine

Jerome Prevost La Closerie Fac-simile Extra Brut Rose Champagne LC18 NV, 0.75L
Pinot Meunier from Gueux, Champagne
"Disgorged without dosage, the NV Extra Brut Rosé Fac-similie (LC18) bursts with aromas of red berries, plums and spices mingled with freshly baked bread and dried white flowers. Medium to full-bodied, fleshy and sapid, with delicate structure and an enveloping core of irresistibly succulent fruit, lively acids and a long, saline finish. While the Fac-similie shares the charm of its white counterpart, its gently phenolic grip seems to temper some of the exuberance of the vintage." 96 Points, William Kelley, Wine Advocate

Jerome Prevost La Closerie Les Beguines LC18 Extra-Brut NV, 0.75L
Pinot Meunier from Gueux, Champagne
"The NV Extra Brut Les Béguines LC 18 is a wine of immense charm and generosity of spirit. Mingling aromas of walnuts, fenugreek, pear, yellow orchard fruit, licorice, white flowers and buttery pastry with evocations of peach and apricot, it's full-bodied, fleshy and voluptuous, with a broad and textural attack that segues into an ample, enveloping core, concluding with a sapid finish. "These were the nicest grapes I've ever seen when assessed simply as fruit," Prévost remarks, contrasting the 2018 crop with the smaller berries and thicker skins of, for instance, 2015 "which were great grapes from which to make wine." 95 Points, William Kelley, Wine Advocate
