This isn’t one of them. The Muga Prado Enea Gran Reserva 2019 is only produced in great vintages, when everything aligns in the vineyard. If the year doesn’t meet the standard, they simply don’t make it. That tells you everything. This is one of the benchmark wines of Rioja. The blend is classic: Tempranillo with Garnacha, Mazuelo, and Graciano, sourced from old vines, many between 50 and 75+ years old, grown in the high-elevation vineyards of Rioja Alta. The winemaking is as traditional as it gets. All barrels are made in-house, and the wine is aged for a minimum of 30+ months in oak, followed by at least three years in bottle before release. That’s real patience. In the glass, it shows. Spice, dried cherry, kirsch, and a touch of earth, layered with silky tannins and a seamless, structured profile that feels both powerful and refined. This is a wine that can age for decades. But in a vintage like 2019, it’s already incredibly compelling today. Critics consistently reward it.
