But what happens when one of the top estates in Sauternes makes a dry white? You get Le Lions de Suduiraut Blanc. From Château Suduiraut, one of the iconic names in Sauternes, this Bordeaux Blanc blends 57% Sémillon, 30% Sauvignon Blanc, and the rest Sauvignon Gris. The result captures everything special about the region’s gravel and sand soils, but without residual sugar. Sémillon brings texture, body, and that unmistakable apricot and stone fruit richness. Sauvignon Blanc delivers citrus and freshness. Sauvignon Gris adds floral lift and additional white peach character. Half the wine is aged in stainless steel. Half in French oak, with 30% new barrels. Everything is hand harvested. Everything is treated with the same precision as the estate’s classified sweet wines. Vinous awarded it 93 points. The price is $19.98. That is absurd value for a wine from one of the top estates in Sauternes. If you love textured, mineral-driven white wines that sit somewhere between Bordeaux Blanc and white Burgundy in weight, this is your move. Dry Sauternes is becoming a thing. You might as well get in early.
