Places that quietly supply fruit to top producers for years without ever putting their own name on a label. This is one of them. The La Cienega Cabernet Sauvignon comes from a small family vineyard planted in 1997 in Alexander Valley, tucked up in the hills off Chalk Hill Road. For years, this site was a source for high-end Napa and Sonoma wineries, valued for the quality of its fruit. And then everything changed. In 2018, the family made their first estate wine, and what you’re getting here is that original vision finally realized in bottle. The location tells you everything. This vineyard sits right next to Verité, one of the most iconic Cabernet producers in California, with wines that routinely sell for hundreds of dollars and score at the very top of the scale. Nearby producers like Medlock Ames also operate in that same high-end tier. That’s the neighborhood. And it shows in the glass. Alexander Valley is known for producing classic Cabernet, and as you move up into the hills, you start to see more structure, more lift, and more of that Bordeaux-like character. This wine captures both. With about 8 years of bottle age, it’s already in a beautiful place. Cassis, blackcurrant, spice, and a touch of cinnamon, with a polished texture and a sense of balance that makes it immediately drinkable. No excess. No over-ripeness. Just clean, classic Cabernet. The original release price was around $52. Today, it’s only $24.98. For a wine from this kind of site, with this kind of pedigree and age, that’s not something you see often. This is one of those bottles where the story is real, the quality is there, and the price simply doesn’t match.
