You get the 2022 Anakota Knights Valley Cabernet Sauvignon, a remarkable expression of mountain-influenced Sonoma terroir from the Jackson family's extraordinary vineyards at the base of Mount St. Helena. Developed with legendary winemaker Pierre Seillan, the creative force behind the acclaimed Vérité wines, Anakota has spent more than two decades establishing itself among California's elite Cabernet producers. Its prestigious Helena Montana and Helena Dakota bottlings command roughly $180, but this Knights Valley Cabernet draws from the same estate, benefits from the same winemaking team and cellar, and delivers that unmistakable Anakota character without the luxury price tag. The warm 2022 vintage demanded careful vineyard management and precise picking, but the results are exceptional. With deep black fruit, licorice, cassis, stony minerality and the powerful personality of a mountain-grown Cabernet, this wine could easily be mistaken for something from Mount Veeder or Diamond Mountain in a blind tasting. Yet unlike Anakota's more formidable single-vineyard bottlings, its tannins are supple enough to enjoy today while retaining the structure to age beautifully for another decade. Awarded 94 points by both James Suckling and Jeb Dunnuck, this is a genuinely estate-grown Cabernet from one of California's premier vineyard properties for approximately $45. In a market overflowing with expensive Cabernet Sauvignon, Anakota reminds us that exceptional pedigree and exceptional value can still coexist.
