The Aluvia Alluvial Chardonnay 2022 comes from the Uco Valley, one of the highest and most exciting Chardonnay-growing regions in the world. These vineyards sit in the same elite neighborhood as Catena’s famed Stones & Bones sites, with extreme elevation, hot days, cool nights, and intense sunshine that builds flavor without sacrificing freshness. The winemaking here is all about texture without oak flavor. The wine spends time in second-use French barrels for amplitude, then finishes aging in concrete egg, preserving purity, lift, and that unmistakable saline, mouthwatering finish. No toast. No butter bomb. Just precision, energy, and fruit. In the glass, it’s bright yet mouth-filling, complex but easy to drink, with serious acid spine, grip, and a salty snap that makes you want another sip immediately. It even opens up beautifully with air and doesn’t want to be served ice-cold — this is a Burgundy-minded Chardonnay in Argentine clothing. The kicker? Double 95-point scores and a shelf price of $19.98. That’s a ridiculous deal for Chardonnay at this level, from this kind of vineyard, with this kind of balance. Quantities are limited, and once people figure out what this is, it’s not going to stay this cheap for long.
