"A burst of black fruit, mocha, espresso and licorice hits the palate as the 2009 Syrah Next of Kyn shows off its inimitable personality. There is a pure voluptuousness in the 2009 that is striking. The immense purity of the fruit gives the 2009 tons of elegance and character. At the same time, big, rich, silky tannins form a backbone that allows the wine to show its expressiveness and pedigree. The 2009 is shaping up to be a jewel of a wine. In 2009, the blend is 80% Syrah, 14% Grenache and 6% Roussanne, all destemmed. The wine spent 30 months in French oak . . . . These are two gorgeous wines from Next of Kyn’s proprietors, Manfred and Elaine Krankl. The Next of Kyn wines are made exclusively from the Cumulus Vineyard, which surrounds the Krankls’ newly built winery in Oak View."

The fourth-largest wine producer in the world, led by California. American fine wine is defined by ripe, expressive fruit and a spirit of innovation, with Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon among the most sought-after wines globally.
Syrah (Shiraz) produces dark, powerful reds with black fruit, pepper and smoked-meat notes. It yields elegant, perfumed wines in the northern Rhone and bold, rich styles in Australia.
