92+ JG. "This is another Mugneret wine that has gotten progressively finer over the last several vintages to my palate, and the wrap-up of the mettayage agreement for this parcel in 2004 can only promise even better things to come from the Mugnerets’ Chaignots. Aromatically, the 2002 is about as polished a bottle of Nuits as one is likely to find, as it offers up a complex mélange of black cherries, plums, violets, dark chocolate, striking minerality, and a touch of vanillin oak. On the palate the wine is fullish, complex and beautifully balanced, with a rock solid core of fruit, fine tannins, and excellent tang on the long, complex finish. This is a terrific bottle of Nuits St. Georges and one of the most overlooked wines in the Mugneret cellar." John Gilman, View From the Cellar #10, Aug 2007 |
