96 RP. "The astonishing 1998 Maya (500 cases from a blend of 45% Cabernet Franc and 55% Cabernet Sauvignon) may well be the "Wine of the Vintage." This is a staggeringly rich effort that tastes like Cheval Blanc on steroids. It boasts a black/purple color as well as a knockout nose of jammy black fruits, spice, currants, minerals, and spice box, dazzling concentration, multiple layers of flavors, and sweet tannin, giving it that seamless texture that has been so much a characteristic of Maya's greatest vintages. The 1998 should drink well for at least 25 years. It is an amazing tour de force in winemaking." Robert M. Parker, Jr., Wine Advocate #132, Dec 2000 |
