Lot #256. Jean & Jean-Louis Trapet Chapelle-Chambertin 2005

Description: Consists of 1 Bottle, 0.75L
Score: 93-94+ JG.
"The Chapelle 2005 had only been bottled fifteen days prior to my visit in March of 2007, and yet was showing superb promise. Jean-Louis noted that his vines in Chapelle, half of which were planted between the two world wars, and half of which were planted in the early 1960s, are always the first of all his vineyards to flower, ripen and to be harvested. He also observed that these old vines have really taken to biodynamism, and are thriving these days. The bouquet on the 2005 is superb and utterly shocking right after the mise, as it soars from the glass in a blend of red plums, blood orange, cocoa powder, great minerality, dusty rose and a fair bit of vanillin oak. On the palate the wine is full-bodied, pure, long and focused, with a great core of fruit, fine balance, and a very long finish that displays great grip, ripe tannins, and just a touch of wood at the present time. A superb bottle of Chapelle." John Gilman, View From the Cellar #21, Jun 2009
