Collectors seek out old vintages from Col d'Orcia thanks to its ample library. I am told it is the biggest in Montalcino. This was a classic vintage and was rated one of the best ever back in the day. The 1990 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva Poggio al Vento has leaned into tertiary tones of sandalwood, Indian spice, linseed oil, rosewood and star anise. This wine was first commercially produced in the 1973 vintage, but the Conti Marone Cinzano family started making it back in 1968. Reviewed by: Monica Larner

Italy grows more indigenous grape varieties than any other country and produces wine in all 20 of its regions. From Piedmont's Nebbiolo to Tuscany's Sangiovese, its finest wines pair structure and bright acidity with a strong sense of place.
The heartland of Sangiovese, producing Chianti Classico, Brunello di Montalcino and the Cabernet-influenced 'Super Tuscans' of the coast. Its wines balance bright acidity, savory structure and cellar-worthiness.
A powerful, age-worthy Sangiovese from the warm hills of Montalcino, requiring extended aging and prized for depth and longevity.
