"The 1968 Sassicaia is by far the best wine of this last flight that covers the 1970s. Sassicaia was not produced in 1969. This phenomenal wine set the stage for what would become the most revolutionary bottle in Italy. It opens to a sure and determined sense of confidence and purpose. It is as if it knew it would make history. This vintage of Sassicaia shows a natural glow or luster that underlines its purity and finesse. The gorgeous bouquet reveals a level of energy and verve that absolutely defies its age. Dried fruit, crushed mineral, licorice and balsam herb add to the wine's remarkable length and polish. I'm sure it will continue to drink beautifully for many more years, but if I were lucky enough to own a bottle, I would keep it under lock and key regardless."

Italy grows more indigenous grape varieties than any other country and produces wine in all 20 of its regions. From Piedmont's Nebbiolo to Tuscany's Sangiovese, its finest wines pair structure and bright acidity with a strong sense of place.
The heartland of Sangiovese, producing Chianti Classico, Brunello di Montalcino and the Cabernet-influenced 'Super Tuscans' of the coast. Its wines balance bright acidity, savory structure and cellar-worthiness.
The world's most planted premium red grape, yielding deeply colored, tannic and structured wines with cassis, cedar and graphite notes. Firm tannins and acidity make it exceptionally age-worthy, whether as a varietal or the backbone of a Bordeaux blend.
