"The proprietary 1997 Cabreo Il Borgo (an 8,000 case blend of 70% Sangiovese and 30% Cabernet Sauvignon aged 16 months in new French oak) displays the vintage's voluptuous style. A single-vineyard offering first produced in 1982, the high-altitude vineyard results in an elegant personality. The vintage's richness is well-displayed in this silky, low acid, intense, medium to full-bodied 1997 with copious quantities of red and black fruits infused with abundant quantities of smoky new oak. It can be drunk now, or cellared . . ."

Italy grows more indigenous grape varieties than any other country and produces wine in all 20 of its regions. From Piedmont's Nebbiolo to Tuscany's Sangiovese, its finest wines pair structure and bright acidity with a strong sense of place.
The heartland of Sangiovese, producing Chianti Classico, Brunello di Montalcino and the Cabernet-influenced 'Super Tuscans' of the coast. Its wines balance bright acidity, savory structure and cellar-worthiness.
The world's most planted premium red grape, yielding deeply colored, tannic and structured wines with cassis, cedar and graphite notes. Firm tannins and acidity make it exceptionally age-worthy, whether as a varietal or the backbone of a Bordeaux blend.
Tuscany's signature red, giving high-acid, savory wines of sour cherry, herbs and firm tannin. It is the backbone of Chianti, Brunello and many Super Tuscans.
