"The most noticeable improvements at St. Jean can be seen in the Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon program. The Merlot Reserve bottlings spend 36 months in barrel, of which 50% are new. I thought all four vintages I tasted of the Merlot Reserve were potentially outstanding wines. The 1993 Merlot Reserve is a full-bodied, lush, opulent, dense, chocolate/black cherry fruit-driven wine that is both mouthfilling and concentrated . . . . The Reserve Merlots are all made in limited quantities of about 400 cases."

The fourth-largest wine producer in the world, led by California. American fine wine is defined by ripe, expressive fruit and a spirit of innovation, with Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon among the most sought-after wines globally.
A large, geographically varied California region producing cool-climate Pinot Noir and Chardonnay near the coast and richer Zinfandel and Cabernet inland. Its wines range from elegant to bold.
Produces plush, supple, fruit-forward reds with plum and chocolate notes. Softer and earlier-maturing than Cabernet, it adds flesh and roundness to blends and stars in Right Bank Bordeaux.
