"Since first encountering this wine out of double magnum at the chateau (pure infanticide) this Cos dâEstournel has built on its promise and is rapidly becoming one of my favourite wines of the vintage. A deep garnet hue with thin deep brick rim. The nose is quintessential Saint Estephe, quite earthy at first with element of sous bois, then tar, a touch of black plum and liquorish, a hint of black tea. The full-bodied palate is becoming less sinewy and more approachable every time I encounter it: beautiful balance, superb definition, this bottle perhaps the most supple and lithe so far. Slightly grainy tannins, a touch of bitter chocolate and black truffle. Great length. This remains a tour de force Cos dâEstournel. Majestic and imperious. Tasted June 2007. Drinking now-2030."

The world's largest fine-wine region, built around blends of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Divided by the Gironde estuary into the structured Left Bank and the plush, Merlot-led Right Bank, it is the historic benchmark for age-worthy claret and sweet Sauternes.
Chateau Cos d'Estournel is a Second Growth estate in Saint-Estephe, Bordeaux, recognizable for its pagoda-topped chai and celebrated for exotic, opulent yet powerfully structured Cabernet-based wines.
An aromatic red grape lending perfume, red fruit and a leafy, savory edge. It thrives in the Loire and as a key blending partner in Bordeaux, especially Saint-Emilion.
The world's most planted premium red grape, yielding deeply colored, tannic and structured wines with cassis, cedar and graphite notes. Firm tannins and acidity make it exceptionally age-worthy, whether as a varietal or the backbone of a Bordeaux blend.
Produces plush, supple, fruit-forward reds with plum and chocolate notes. Softer and earlier-maturing than Cabernet, it adds flesh and roundness to blends and stars in Right Bank Bordeaux.
A deeply colored, tannic Bordeaux blending grape adding color, structure and floral, spicy complexity in small proportions.
