"Laurent Ponsot explained that he named his Morey Premier Cru bottling 'Cuvée Alouettes' as he wished to retain the Clos des Monts Luisants name solely for his great white wine produced here from very old aligoté vines, rather than have both a red and a white with the same vineyard name. The monopole Clos des Monts Luisants is 2.5 hectares of vines in total, with one hectare planted to aligoté, one hectare of pinot noir entitled to premier cru states (and from which this bottling originates) and half a hectare of pinot noir vines considered part of Clos de la Roche. The 2012 Cuvée Alouettes is another absolutely stunning premier cru that has aspirations to grand cru quality in this vintage, offering up a beautiful bouquet of black cherries, dark plums, dark chocolate, gamebirds, woodsmoke, just a touch of violet and a superb base of soil tones. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and again, very pure and sappy, with great focus and grip, very good acids and a very long, suavely tannic and complex finish. Another superb example of the vintage."
