"The 2000 Verset Cornas was opened up to pair with the 1999 Chave, and much to everyone at the tableās surprise the Verset was the deeper, fresher and more complete wine. The nose is deep and still quite youthful, offering up a bright mĆ©lange of black raspberry, black olive, green peppercorns, some medicinal syrah tones, hot stones, hints of the game to come and a distinct topnote of violets. On the palate the wine is full-bodied, focused and rock solid at the core, with excellent length and a moderate bit of ripe, well-covered perking up the long finish. It is still early days for this fine wine, but its overall balance and harmony made for a much better drink than the dry and modestly endowed 1999 Chave lined up with it."

The world's most influential fine-wine producer and the benchmark for Bordeaux, Burgundy, Champagne and the Rhone. Its appellation (AOC) system codifies geography, grape and method, and its wines set the global standard for age-worthiness and terroir expression.
Spans the Syrah-driven northern crus of Cote-Rotie and Hermitage and the Grenache-based blends of the warmer south, led by Chateauneuf-du-Pape. Its wines are known for power, spice and warmth.
Syrah (Shiraz) produces dark, powerful reds with black fruit, pepper and smoked-meat notes. It yields elegant, perfumed wines in the northern Rhone and bold, rich styles in Australia.
