"The 2013 Sito Moresco from the Gaja family is composed of a blend of predominantly nebbiolo, with cabernet sauvignon and merlot playing supporting roles. The wine offers up a lovely and very refined bouquet that is quite nebbiolo-centric, delivering scents of red and black cherries, licorice, tobacco smoke, gamebird, soil and a well-done framing of spicy new oak. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and nicely structured, with a fine core of fruit, good soil signature, ripe, well-integrated tannins and a very long, nascently complex and well-balanced finish. I am not normally a big fan of these blended wines from Piemonte, but this is really well done and I am dutifully impressed. It could do with at least a few more years to soften up and blossom further, and should peak around 2023. Fine juice."

Italy grows more indigenous grape varieties than any other country and produces wine in all 20 of its regions. From Piedmont's Nebbiolo to Tuscany's Sangiovese, its finest wines pair structure and bright acidity with a strong sense of place.
In Italy's northwest, Piedmont is home to Nebbiolo, the grape behind the powerful, perfumed and long-lived reds of Barolo and Barbaresco. Fog-shrouded hills and calcareous soils define its greatest wines.
Produces pale but powerfully tannic and perfumed reds with tar, rose and cherry notes. The grape behind Barolo and Barbaresco, it is among the most age-worthy in the world.
