"Coming up on a decade of bottle age, the 2006 Limoux Domaine de BaronâArques is still going strong and has classic notes of black currants, blackberries, chocolate, tobacco leaf and licorice. These give way to a medium to full-bodied Limoux that has solid concentration and mid-palate density, still present tannin and a balanced, graceful style that will do it well over the coming 5-8 years. Owned by the Rothschild family, Domaine de BaronâArques is one of the leading estates in Limoux. They made a fabulous white based off Chardonnay and two reds: the entry level Limoux La Capitelle, and the top wine, the Domaine de BaronâArques. Both cuvĂ©es appear to age gracefully, and the top cuvee can certainly keep for 15-20 years in a good vintage."

The world's most influential fine-wine producer and the benchmark for Bordeaux, Burgundy, Champagne and the Rhone. Its appellation (AOC) system codifies geography, grape and method, and its wines set the global standard for age-worthiness and terroir expression.
An aromatic red grape lending perfume, red fruit and a leafy, savory edge. It thrives in the Loire and as a key blending partner in Bordeaux, especially Saint-Emilion.
The world's most planted premium red grape, yielding deeply colored, tannic and structured wines with cassis, cedar and graphite notes. Firm tannins and acidity make it exceptionally age-worthy, whether as a varietal or the backbone of a Bordeaux blend.
A warm-climate red giving generous, high-alcohol wines of red fruit and spice. It anchors southern Rhone blends and old-vine wines in Spain and Australia.
Yields dark, plush reds with ripe black fruit and soft tannins. A traditional Bordeaux blender, it found its greatest fame in Argentina.
Produces plush, supple, fruit-forward reds with plum and chocolate notes. Softer and earlier-maturing than Cabernet, it adds flesh and roundness to blends and stars in Right Bank Bordeaux.
Syrah (Shiraz) produces dark, powerful reds with black fruit, pepper and smoked-meat notes. It yields elegant, perfumed wines in the northern Rhone and bold, rich styles in Australia.
