"The young ’02 Vosne villages is as fine a bottling of this wine as I have ever tasted. Marie-Andrée Mugneret talked a bit about how it took some time for her and her sister Marie-Christine to finally get this wine the way they liked it- early vintages after they took over for their father were a bit too tannic for their tastes and lacking the elegance which they thought should typify Vosne-Romanée. However, the last several vintages, perhaps a result of the much more hands on approach they have taken towards their viticulture has produced a strong run of vintages for the Vosne AC. The 2002 is flat out brilliant for the appellation, offering up a classic nose of red and black raspberries, Vosne spices, minerals, violets, a bit of orange zest and a touch of cedary wood. On the palate the wine is medium-full, rock solid at the core, and beautifully focused and expressive on the backend. There is a bit of round tannin on the finish, but they dovetail brilliantly with the tangy acids of the vintage to give the wine shape and grip. Outstanding wine."
