"David Sampedro Gil has been described as one of ‘Six Producers Leading the Way’ in Rioja by Wine Spectator. David's passion is to make a difference through winemaking with minimal intervention, ecological farming methods, and following biodynamic processes in the vineyard. David makes wines in four different regions in Spain as well as one region in Mosel, Germany . . . . 50% Muscatel [aka Muscat of Alexandria] and 50% Viura [aka Macabeo]. Caressing the Mediterranean, the Muscatel grapes are grown in a lower elevation with a warmer climate. The Viura grapes are grown in Valencia where the elevation reaches 900 meters [2950 feet]. This young white wine is made by working separately with each of the varieties in order to obtain a totally dry Muscatel and a Viura with some natural residual sugar. Fermentation is halted by refrigeration, which allows for a wine that is lower in alcohol (only 10%), to be slightly sweet yet refreshing and easy to drink. This wine is incredibly delicate and seductive in the nose where the unmistakable perfume and fragrance from Muscatel join the stone fruit from the Viura. The wine's refreshing acidity keeps its slight sweetness in balance. It is recommended to serve cold at 50 degrees [Fahrenheit]."

Spain has the largest area under vine of any country and a deep tradition of oak-aged reds. Tempranillo-based wines from Rioja and Ribera del Duero, alongside Priorat's Garnacha and Carinena, anchor its fine-wine reputation.
