"The estate's Barbera d'Alba Pairolero is beautiful in 2008. Minerals, crushed rocks, violets, blackberries and cassis are just some of the nuances that emerge from this precise, chiseled Barbera. In 2008 the minerality of the wine is particularly in evidence, while the overt fruit and oakiness of previous vintages is nowhere to be found. This is beautiful, chiseled Pairolero with superb overall balance and an undertstated, beguiling personality that makes it impossible to resist a second taste."

Italy grows more indigenous grape varieties than any other country and produces wine in all 20 of its regions. From Piedmont's Nebbiolo to Tuscany's Sangiovese, its finest wines pair structure and bright acidity with a strong sense of place.
In Italy's northwest, Piedmont is home to Nebbiolo, the grape behind the powerful, perfumed and long-lived reds of Barolo and Barbaresco. Fog-shrouded hills and calcareous soils define its greatest wines.
