"Tasted at the Langoa-Barton vertical in London. Like the Langoa ’86, this has a noticeably deep garnet colour. A glorious nose that soars from the glass: roasted herbs, a touch of saddle leather, brambly black fruits and wild hedgerow. The palate is medium-bodied, lacking the harmony that it was showing a few years ago, meaty and savoury, fleshy in the middle although the acidity sticks out a little. There is a Pomerol-like finish that reminds me of Chateau Trotanoy. Not quite as riveting as my last bottle, but still a wildly successful 1990 that offers equal pleasure to those with wallet-crunching price tags. Delicious, delicious Claret. Tasted April 2009."

The world's most influential fine-wine producer and the benchmark for Bordeaux, Burgundy, Champagne and the Rhone. Its appellation (AOC) system codifies geography, grape and method, and its wines set the global standard for age-worthiness and terroir expression.
The world's largest fine-wine region, built around blends of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Divided by the Gironde estuary into the structured Left Bank and the plush, Merlot-led Right Bank, it is the historic benchmark for age-worthy claret and sweet Sauternes.
The world's most planted premium red grape, yielding deeply colored, tannic and structured wines with cassis, cedar and graphite notes. Firm tannins and acidity make it exceptionally age-worthy, whether as a varietal or the backbone of a Bordeaux blend.
