"Both this note on the ’99 Blanchots and the ’99 Clos below were taken at the end of 2006, and fully demonstrate that not only is the plague on white Burgundy today a ticking time bomb as the wines near ages six and seven, but that each bottle is a separate proposition in its own right, as each cork has a slightly different cellular structure that can affect the evolution of each bottle. In any case, both the ’99 Blanchots and the ’99 Clos showed no signs of premature movement, and both are rock solid and stellar bottles (or at least these bottles were). The nose on the ’99 Blanchots is classic, as it shows notes of candied lemon peel, licorice, beeswax, spring flowers and a beautiful base of complex and crystalline minerality. On the palate the wine is full-bodied and quite rich on the attack, with great framing acids, a rock solid mid-palate, and stunning focus and cut on the long, snappy finish."
