"Deep red. Musky, expressive aromas of roasted plum, mocha and espresso. Smoother and sweeter than the regular Barbaresco; rich plum and currant flavors are complicated by torrefaction notes of roast coffee and dark chocolate and a strong component of smoky oak. Fat, full and nicely balanced. Finishes with finer tannins and very good length. Pelissero three hectares of vines here generally yield 30,000-40,000 bottles of Barbaresco, but in '97 just 8,000 were produced."

Italy grows more indigenous grape varieties than any other country and produces wine in all 20 of its regions. From Piedmont's Nebbiolo to Tuscany's Sangiovese, its finest wines pair structure and bright acidity with a strong sense of place.
In Italy's northwest, Piedmont is home to Nebbiolo, the grape behind the powerful, perfumed and long-lived reds of Barolo and Barbaresco. Fog-shrouded hills and calcareous soils define its greatest wines.
Produces Nebbiolo of slightly more elegance and approachability than neighboring Barolo, offering perfume, finesse and firm structure.
