"The J. K. Carriere 2002 Pinot Noir - which, like its 2006 counterpart, originated primarily from Temperance Hill - offers scents and still-juicy profusion of blueberry and blackberry with smoky overtones of peat, black tea, resin, and Latakia tobacco. Here's one of those instances in Prosser's Pinot oeuvre where almost sinister evocations of earthy and darkly aromatic are allied to vibrancy and tart-edged primary fruit juiciness (and that nearly a decade after harvest!). There is an underlying firmness here that may never give way to textural allure. Then again, structure might well be implicated in another several years of versatile and fascinating service. The finish here prolongs oscillating strands of stone; forest floor; teas and tobacco; and fresh dark berries, stimulating the combination of head-scratching and sensual appetite for achieving which Pinot Noir was created."
