"Ruby-red. Musky, highly aromatic nose combines black raspberry, roast coffee, gunflint and woodsmoke. Very tightly wound, juicy flavors of black and red raspberry. Quite powerfully structured, muscular and youthfully clenched today, but already boasts superb lift and grip. Finishes very long, peppery and firm. Not nearly as round as the Lancement, but then this wine will probably not be bottled until March of 2006. Think of this as Ogier's CĂ´te Brune-type cuvĂŠe, while Lancement is more in the style of CĂ´te Blonde."

The northern Rhone's most prestigious red appellation, producing perfumed, elegant Syrah, often co-fermented with a little Viognier, from steep terraced slopes.
Syrah (Shiraz) produces dark, powerful reds with black fruit, pepper and smoked-meat notes. It yields elegant, perfumed wines in the northern Rhone and bold, rich styles in Australia.
