"Pear, pineapple, and licorice scent the St. Urbans-Hof 2007 Piesporter Goldtropfchen Riesling Spatlese, which exhibits an unusually snappy, bright character on the palate, free of the creaminess that is simultaneously, flatteringly present in many 2007s. The cool, refreshing fruit here and underlying sense of sheer wet stone are allied to deep nut oil richness, leading to a finish of striking length and depth, well-judged in sweetness. This is a picture of Goldtropchen that needs time in a dark cellar to develop. Ideally, it deserves not to be touched for 6-8 years and should remain spry through the better part of two decades. Furthermore, for an age-worthy, dramatic representation of a justly prestigious site, this wine’ price renders it an excellent value."
