"More serious than the Double-Down, is the 2002 Syrah Maximus. Reminiscent of a Hermitage from France’s northern Rhone Valley, this tightly-knit, dense ruby/purple-hued effort offers up a provocative bouquet of violets, blackberries, cassis, leather, and earth. Tangy acidity provides vibrancy and uplift to this medium to full-bodied, nicely layered, concentrated wine. Made in a cool climate style with authoritative flavors as well as considerable length . . ."

The fourth-largest wine producer in the world, led by California. American fine wine is defined by ripe, expressive fruit and a spirit of innovation, with Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon among the most sought-after wines globally.
Syrah (Shiraz) produces dark, powerful reds with black fruit, pepper and smoked-meat notes. It yields elegant, perfumed wines in the northern Rhone and bold, rich styles in Australia.
